110 days of revolt! Citizens protest outside Parliament, moving to the Prime Minister’s Office in the afternoon

The citizens’ protest against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama enters its 110th day today, with the action this time also set to move outside Parliament during the morning.

For 110 days, citizens and activists have gathered in Tirana, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the removal of the government, while the rallies have included marches along the capital’s main streets and stops outside institutions.

A protest has been announced for 10:00 today outside Parliament, at the same time the Assembly is expected to hold its plenary session. The call for participation was repeated during the 109th protest, held a day earlier.

“We will all be at Parliament at 10:00 on Thursday,” was the call made during the rallies, while activist Arben Kola said the protest outside the Assembly aims to mark another phase of the citizens’ action.

“Tomorrow, there will be a protest at Parliament starting at 10:00, when a session is being held,” Kola said during last night’s protest, calling on citizens to join the rally.

Today’s protest follows the 109th rally, when citizens began marching from Skanderbeg Square toward the Prime Minister’s Office. Outside the government building, they repeated their demands for Rama’s removal and displayed placards bearing messages critical of the government.

Various citizens and activists spoke during the previous day’s protest, voicing criticism of the government and calling for the protests to continue.

Professor Lush Susaj called for the rallies to continue peacefully, stressing that the protest should be grounded in “patience, resistance and perseverance.”

Part of the discussion during the 109th protest also focused on developments in The Hague concerning the former leaders of the KLA, while various protesters expressed their views on the issue.

The protests in recent days have not been limited to gatherings outside the Prime Minister’s Office. Citizens have marched through various areas of Tirana, while another repeated demand has been the release of protesters detained during previous rallies.

As the protest enters its 110th day, attention shifts to Parliament today. Protesters have announced that they will gather outside the building during the plenary session, while it remains to be seen how the action will proceed afterward and whether the protest will return to its usual route toward the Prime Minister’s Office and other streets in the capital.
