Porja stated that starting from Tuesday until Sunday, hot air masses originating from Africa will spread again over the Balkan Peninsula and consequently over Albania, causing a further increase in temperatures. “The entire remainder of July will be hot, except for brief moments when we might have a temporary weakening of the heat wave for 24 or 48 hours, with temperatures around 34-35 degrees. The other days will be quite hot. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will experience a slight drop but will remain at high levels. Rainfall will be absent in most of the country, except for isolated showers that may occur on Thursday and Friday in the far north and northeast, specifically in the areas of Bajram Curri, Puka, Kukës, Peshkopi and isolated parts of Mat. On these days, the rest of the territory will keep morning clear skies, with passing clouds in the afternoons but no rain,” she detailed.

The expert explained that along the seacoast temperatures will reach up to 36 degrees, while in the southern riviera up to 37 degrees. Mountainous areas will experience around 32 degrees, and the Korça region will enjoy the coolest values of the week. Regarding the start of the week, she announced that today a maximum of 35-36 degrees is forecast, with mostly clear weather across all Albanian territory, light passing clouds and no risk of rain.

Referring to the situation in neighboring countries, Porja emphasized that Kosovo and North Macedonia currently have normal temperature values, with 29-30 degrees in Pristina and up to 32 degrees in Skopje. However, the heatwave will penetrate the region starting from Tuesday, with a one-day delay compared to Albania. “In Kosovo, temperatures are expected to climb to 34-35 degrees, while in Gjakova and Prizren up to 36 degrees. In Skopje, the peak is expected on Friday. Here too the weather will be mostly clear, but in the afternoons isolated showers may form in the border areas of Kosovo with Albania. From midweek the weather will become scorching for all Balkan countries, especially for Kosovo and North Macedonia, which traditionally have more moderate temperatures than Albania,” the meteorologist concluded.

As for temperatures, he stressed that the highest values today are expected to be recorded near 36°C in the counties of Elbasan and Berat. Highs of up to 35°C are expected in Tirana, Shkodra and Gjirokastra, while along the coast at midday temperatures will range from 31 to close to 34°C.

Asked by journalist Alba Xhani about the weather trend for next week, Osmani said the coming week will be dominated by stable atmospheric conditions, accompanied by light cloud passages.

He said Monday will begin with stable weather, long clear spells and little cloud cover, a situation that will continue until midday. Afterwards, in the second part of the day, cloud cover is forecast to increase over the eastern half of the territory, including northeastern, southeastern and partly central areas.

According to him, high humidity in the afternoon hours will create the possibility of isolated rain showers, which are expected to be more noticeable in the north and northeast, specifically in the counties of Bajram Curri, Puka and Kukës, where rainfall will be somewhat more present.

Tuesday as well, Osmani said, will begin with long sunny intervals during the morning hours, but later, in the second part of the day, clouds and light rain are expected. This rainfall will be mainly local and more noticeable in southern and southeastern areas, while the rest of the country, especially the coastline, will remain protected throughout the 24-hour period.

He added that morning minimum temperatures will also rise. In the cities of the mountainous areas, by midweek the minimums will climb to 14-15°C, while in the second half of the week they will be around 17°C. Meanwhile, in the western lowlands, the early morning hours in the second half of the week will bring minimums from 19 and close to 26°C, making the high temperatures felt once again in our country.

She explained that, although values as extreme as those recorded in Spain or southern France are not expected, where temperatures reached as high as 43 degrees, the thermometer is still forecast to climb to 40 degrees today. This figure is expected to be recorded in three or four counties, specifically in the areas of Shkodra and Koplik, as well as in Berat, Ura Vajgurore, Cërrik, Belsh and Elbasan, while Gjirokastra is not being ruled out either.

In the main cities and almost across the entire western lowlands, temperatures will range from 38 to 39 degrees. Along the coastline, 36 to 37 degrees are expected, while mountainous areas will also experience high temperatures, especially in the northeast. In Dibër County, the thermometer is expected to reach 32-33 degrees, in Kukës 34 degrees, while the southeast, namely Korçë County, will be slightly cooler.

The weekend and Monday will be characterized by dry weather, with no rainfall across the entire territory. Porja stressed that the heat will feel even heavier, especially on Sunday and Monday, due to the gradual increase in humidity, which makes the weather more stifling.

A slight easing of this heatwave is expected to occur on Tuesday. Only on that day is a drop in temperatures of at least 2 to 3 degrees forecast, while in some areas it could be as much as 4 degrees, bringing the thermometer down from 40 to around 37-38 degrees. According to her, the situation will continue to improve in the middle of next week, when on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as well as for three to four days, the weather will be somewhat cooler compared with the current days.

However, she stressed that this does not mean the country will experience truly cool temperatures, since July is officially beginning, a traditionally hot month. According to the forecast, African air masses are expected to activate frequently, bringing many days with temperatures of 38-39 degrees, while from mid-July there may be days when the thermometer climbs even higher.

Porja recalled that a very hot summer had been forecast earlier, one that began as early as the end of May with high temperatures and the breaking of historical records. She mentioned that the historical May record has been broken in the United Kingdom, while unprecedented temperatures for the month of June have also been recorded in Portugal and Spain. Meanwhile, a considerable number of heat-related fatalities has also been reported in France and Spain.

In conclusion, she underlined that temperatures of 40 or 41 degrees have not usually been seen in Albanian territory this early in June, as these values are generally recorded in July or at the beginning of August.
