Gazment Bardhi, chairman of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, has denounced the dire state of waste management in Tirana, accusing the government of administrative failure and misuse of public funds.

According to him, Albanian citizens continue to pay for an incinerator that does not exist, while the capital is grappling with waste accumulating in public spaces.

Bardhi describes the situation as the result of an irresponsible model of governance in which payments are made, but the service is absent and responsibility is concealed by propaganda.

He also says that waste has spread through public spaces and that citizens face the consequences of poor management every day.

“Albanians continue to pay for an incinerator that does not exist, while Tirana is drowning in rubbish,” said the head of the DP parliamentary group.

He considers it scandalous and unacceptable that a country aspiring to join the European Union should present itself to the world with cities covered in waste, while millions are being paid for an incinerator that does not exist.

“Rubbish has taken over every corner of Albania, including its heart, Tirana. While citizens face this shameful reality every day, those in power continue to act as though they neither see nor hear anything and bear no responsibility,” Bardhi declared.

According to him, the problem is not limited to administrative incompetence, but constitutes a “political and administrative failure.” Bardhi is calling for transparency, accountability and functioning public services, rejecting excuses and propaganda.

“Citizens deserve service, transparency and accountability, not propaganda, excuses and bills that they are forced to pay,” he stressed.

“Tirana does not need propaganda. It needs a government that works and takes responsibility. Enough of the arrogance of those in power. Enough of the squandering of public money. The time for responsibility and accountability has come,” Bardhi concluded.

She said that citizens can now take their waste to the sanitary landfills in Mirash, Landovicë, Velekincë and Dumnicë, where they are provided with a legal and safe space for disposal.

According to Pacolli, these landfills will accept waste from citizens every Saturday, from 08:00 to 16:00.

She stressed that, with the provision of this service, there should no longer be any reason or justification for dumping waste in nature or at illegal landfill sites.

Pacolli also called on citizens to make use of this opportunity and contribute to protecting the environment, underlining that responsibility for a cleaner and greener Kosovo belongs to everyone.

“We all have a duty to protect the environment and make our Kosovo clean and green,” Pacolli wrote in her announcement.

According to the announcement, this is considered an important step toward eliminating illegal dumpsites and building a more orderly, safer and more lawful waste management system.

Waste from citizens will be accepted at the sanitary landfills in Mirash, Landovica, Velekinca and Dumnica.

MESP also announced that waste will be accepted every Saturday, from 08:00 to 16:00, at a fee of 10.31 euros per ton, while payment may be made only by bank card.

The announcement emphasizes that only non-hazardous waste will be allowed at the landfills, in accordance with the legislation in force, while hazardous, toxic, hospital, explosive or legally prohibited waste will not be accepted.

The ministry also said that citizens now have a legal option for disposing of waste, and therefore any dumping in nature or in inappropriate places will be treated with zero tolerance and punished in accordance with the law. The announcement adds that protecting the environment is the responsibility of each and every one of us.
