Vetëvendosje Movement MP Nezir Kraki has reacted after the process of constituting the Assembly was blocked, asking the Democratic Party of Kosovo to propose a new name for the post of deputy speaker.

According to Kraki, PDK had previously obstructed the constitution of the Assembly by calling for the candidate’s name for the position to be changed.

“Do you remember how PDK blocked the constitution of the Assembly with that demand, ‘Change the name!’? We changed not one, but five names to unblock the situation,” Kraki wrote.

He said that PDK should now act in the same way by putting forward another candidate so that the Assembly can continue its work.

“Now it is both appropriate and correct for PDK to propose someone else for deputy speaker of the Assembly so that we can continue working,” he stated.

Kraki also emphasized that the party has other alternatives for the position.

“There are 21 more possible names,” he wrote.

Artan Abrashi, a member of parliament from the Vetëvendosje Movement, expressed hope that the political entities had managed to find the necessary will to bring the institutional crisis to an end.

Before the constitutive session of the Assembly resumed, Abrashi said this was precisely the reason they had come to the Assembly.

“That is precisely why we have come here. I think that perhaps some willingness has emerged to resolve this crisis,” he said.

Speaking about the statement by Igor Simić, a deputy from the Serb List, Abrashi stressed that their position had already been made clear and expressed confidence that such a statement would not be repeated.

“We have made our position on Simić’s statement known, and I believe he will not repeat it,” Abrashi said.

At the session held two days ago, LVV announced that it would not vote for these two candidates because, according to the party, they had spoken out against an agreement related to the issue of the president.

On Friday, as he entered the Assembly building for the continuation of the constitutive session, Abrashi said he expected the Serbian List’s nominee for deputy speaker of the Assembly to also be in the spirit of the Constitution.

“Perhaps they have found some willingness to resolve this crisis. Let us see… We have stated our position regarding Simić’s statement, and I believe he will not repeat the same thing. Let us see,” he said.

Arbër Rexhaj, an MP from the Vetëvendosje Movement, has said that the refusal to vote for the deputy speakers of Parliament is being used as a political tool.

Speaking on the Debat Plus program, he said that Kujtim Shala of the LDK and Vlora Çitaku of the PDK cannot count on LVV’s votes for the deputy speaker posts.

Rexhaj said that withholding votes from them is a political tool and that Shala does not have LVV’s support. He mentioned an agreement that had been reached with great difficulty, saying that he had been pleased and felt a sense of euphoria when he saw it, as he considered it a positive development and a source of hope for Kosovo. However, according to him, Avdullah Hoti and Kujtim Shala, whom he said he knows and respects, are conducting their internal contest within the LDK by using the current political context, which he does not consider fair. Rexhaj added that LVV also has no vote for Vlora Çitaku.

Following Albulena Haxhiu’s election as speaker with 62 votes, the Assembly of Kosovo failed to complete its constitutive process. The procedure was blocked at the stage of selecting the five deputy speakers, while the continuation of the session was postponed until today.

Enver Haliti, a deputy from the Vetëvendosje Movement, said that meetings with the Democratic League of Kosovo are continuing in an effort to overcome the parliamentary deadlock, and that the two sides are close to reaching a solution regarding the country’s new president.

According to him, reaching a consensus on a specific candidate would pave the way for a swift resolution to the current blockade in the Assembly.

“It appears that the talks with the LDK are on a positive trajectory, and we are moving toward an agreement on Kosovo’s president,” Haliti told the media.

The deputy stressed that once an agreement is reached on a joint candidacy, the entire process of establishing the state institutions will be finalized within a very short period.

“Once we have an agreement on a particular person, all the institutions will be fully constituted within a short time,” he added.
