At a time when mayoral elections are expected to be held next year, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha said the party has begun preparations, while stressing that there is no decision to exclude primaries.

“The Democratic Party will begin preparations for next year’s local elections very soon. As for opening the race, although in a way it is not the case that no work has been done—we have been working—the work is continuing, and we will announce it at the earliest opportunity. There is no decision to exclude primaries,” the DP leader said.

Asked whether the DP would support an independent candidate for the Tirana municipality, he said that “everything will be decided in the coming weeks,” while not ruling out the candidacy of Ilir Alimehmeti.

“Ilir Alimehmeti is a prominent figure of the Democratic Party and the city of Tirana. Everything will be determined in the coming weeks,” the DP leader declared.
