Over a 24-hour period, the Emergency Center of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK) provided 317 medical services to patients requiring urgent care.

UCCK data show that 94 patients were treated in the resuscitation unit, 87 in the internal medicine emergency unit, while the surgical and orthopedic emergency units each provided services to 56 patients.

In the Minor Surgery Room, 24 patients received treatment, including suturing, wound care and wound cleaning.

During the same period, the Emergency Center treated eight people involved in physical altercations, as well as 30 people injured in traffic accidents.

For further treatment, 28 patients were admitted to various UCCK clinics. Two deaths were also recorded in the 24-hour report.

In response to the images published by a mother, which exposed the condition of the Pediatrics Clinic’s facilities, seven worn-out beds were removed and replaced with new ones. Authorities announced that this action marks only the first step toward broader improvements, which will extend to other departments.

Fisnik Dobra, director of common technical-administrative services, stated that replacing damaged furniture is part of a long-term project. “Today we replaced the damaged beds with new ones, as you saw. This is just the beginning of a contract signed by the Central Procurement Agency on June 10, aimed at modernizing the infrastructure. Essentially, it involves supplying clinics with medical inventory,” he explained.

To address the raised concerns, UCCK management established an internal investigative committee to review the case in question. From internal checks, irregularities were identified that led to concrete measures.

“After identifying violations and conducting verifications by the institution, responsible persons have been given warnings, and one technical sector employee has been temporarily suspended,” UCCK said in a statement.

Also, to ensure a fair and impartial investigation process regarding allegations about the manner of treating the patient, communication, and the staff’s attitude, interim administrative measures have been taken against four nurses.

Meanwhile, Alije Keka Sylaj, director of the Pediatrics Clinic, reacted on social media emphasizing her commitment to treating every parental complaint with the utmost seriousness. She warned that any healthcare worker who violates professional norms, ethical codes, or job responsibilities will face consequences.

The death was confirmed by the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, which said that the patient did not survive despite continuous efforts and intensive treatment by the medical team.

“Patient B.K., male, around 50 years old, from Drenas, was admitted to the Emergency Center of the UCCK. Immediately after admission, the medical team undertook all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic measures and procedures, in accordance with the medical protocols in force. Despite continuous efforts and intensive treatment by the staff of the Emergency Center, the patient was unable to survive the severe clinical condition, and his death was confirmed,” said UCCK spokesperson Mirlinda Qyqalla.

Following the news of his death, the mayor of the Municipality of Drenas, Ramiz Lladrovci, also reacted, expressing grief and offering condolences to the Krasniqi family.
