The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, has brought to memory the heroic fall of Enver Zymeri, former fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army and member of the Kosovo Police.

In a message, Haradinaj emphasized the weight of Zymeri’s contribution and sacrifice, underlining that his life and that of all those who sacrificed for freedom testify to the uninterrupted defense of the Republic of Kosovo.

“On this day, we honor the heroic fall of Enver Zymeri, who served in the Kosovo Liberation Army and the Kosovo Police,” Haradinaj stated in his writing.

The full message continues with these words: “The life and dedication of Enver, Afrim, and all the martyrs of the homeland’s freedom are proof that the security of the Republic of Kosovo rests upon sacrifice, bravery, and unwavering faith in our state.”

“The police uniform that Enver wore, his sacrifice and his example, together with all our heroes, in times of war and peace, constitute the foundation upon which our state is built. Eternal gratitude for their service and heroism!” he concludes.

On the Memorial Day for police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, acting President Albulena Haxhiu, together with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and members of the government cabinet, paid tribute at the Memorial of Fallen Police Officers.

Haxhiu stressed that the foundations of the country’s freedom, security and sovereignty also rest on the sacrifice of officers who were killed in the line of duty.

She noted that among the 24 police officers remembered, who demonstrated loyalty to the Republic of Kosovo and its people, are also the names of Enver Zymberi and Afrim Bunjaku. According to her, the latter fell in an effort to protect the territorial integrity, constitutional order and independence of the state.

“Today we remember that the freedom, security and sovereignty of our state were also built on the sacrifice of police officers who fell in the line of duty, who gave everything, even their lives, for Kosovo and the citizens of our Republic. Glory to their lives and deeds! Glory to their sublime sacrifice,” she concluded.

This Wednesday, family, relatives, and friends of journalist Enrik Mehmeti, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident, held a tribute in his honor.

By the sea, the journalist’s relatives scattered flowers and honored his memory, deeply cherished by the people of Vlora and beyond.

Meanwhile, a sign bearing his name has been placed by the sea.

We recall that Mehmeti lost his life on Saturday evening, in a motorcycle accident in the Zvërnec area.

A passion for journalism since childhood: Enrik Mehmeti’s 20-year career journey

He joined News24 in the very first days following the television channel’s establishment, reporting with dedication and professionalism on events in the city of Vlora, including crime reports, major police operations, social issues, tourism and more, leaving behind a great loss for the Focus Media Group media family.

Displaying extraordinary courage from childhood, amid the bullets whistling near him during the infamous year of 1997, Enrik Mehmeti, then only 11 years old, joined the “Alba” missionary camp as a translator, becoming the voice of those unable to speak for themselves.

Through the courage of a child forced to grow up before his time, Enrik Mehmeti, as he had previously stated, realised that journalism was his life’s mission, rushing not merely in search of news, but finding that news unfolded wherever he was, in real time.

With determination as the strength of his character and words as a journalist’s most powerful tool, he also joined Italy’s “Rai” television as a correspondent, broadcasting live events from Albania.

His premature death is a great loss for the community of journalists, a loss for Vlora and its residents, for whom he became the long-missing voice and the image that represented them.

After lying in state for two days at the Grand Mosque, a vast religious complex in Tehran, Khamenei’s coffin will be paraded through the streets of the Iranian capital, with authorities expecting millions of people to come out to see it.

The procession is expected to last 10 to 12 hours and will pass along the iconic Engelab Street and Azadi Square. Authorities have not clarified whether the crowd accompanying the coffin will be able to get close to it.

According to media reports, hundreds of people, many of them dressed in black, have flooded the streets of Tehran. Some are carrying Iranian flags or portraits of Khamenei. One is holding a banner reading “Down with the USA,” while another has a photo of US President Donald Trump with a target drawn over it.

On June 6, 1989, an ecstatic crowd stormed the funeral procession of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, tearing off his shroud and throwing his body to the ground.

Khomeini’s body was eventually transported by helicopter for burial in a cemetery near Tehran, several hours after the funeral.

According to foreign media, about 10 million people took to the streets to see the coffin, while more than ten were killed and over 10,000 were injured in the chaos.

Funeral services for Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28, officially began on Saturday. For two days, crowds of Iranians have streamed into the Grand Mosque to see the coffin of the country’s late leader, draped in the colors of the Iranian flag.

Men and women, most dressed in black and sometimes accompanied by children, paid their final respects despite the heat and often with tears in their eyes to the man who led Iran for more than three decades until his death at the age of 86. Some carried placards with slogans against Israel and the US, while one read, “Tell the world that revenge is inevitable.”

Beside Khamenei’s coffin were those of relatives who were killed in the same attack: a daughter, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law and a 14-month-old granddaughter.

Iranian state television showed footage of Ali Khamenei’s three sons, Mustafa, Meisham and Massoud Khamenei, praying beside the coffins, along with many senior Iranian officials, but not Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father.

Mojtaba, 56, was wounded in the strikes that killed his father and has not appeared in public since taking office at the end of March. Authorities estimate that 15 to 20 million people are expected to take part.

After Tehran, Khamenei’s body will be taken to Qom and then on Wednesday to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, where the majority of the population is Shiite. He will be buried on July 9 in the holy city and birthplace of Mashhad.
