The Kosovo Security Force lowered flags to half-staff today at all its barracks in memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States of America.

This symbolic gesture expresses respect for the innocent people who lost their lives in that tragedy, as well as solidarity with the American people, the victims’ families and all those who faced the consequences of the attacks.

State institutions and political parties in Kosovo will pay tribute today to the people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, through a ceremony at the “Kosova kujton” memorial in Pristina.

Albulena Haxhiu, Kosovo’s acting President, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and representatives of political entities will honor the victims at the memorial, which is located in the courtyard of the Kosovo government building.

The commemorative program will begin at 09:00. Haxhiu and Kurti will lay flowers at the memorial and then deliver speeches.

One hour later, at 09:40, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, will pay tribute together with PDK lawmakers.

The tributes will continue at 10:00 with the participation of a delegation from the Alliance, which will honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The “Kosova kujton” memorial was erected to express solidarity with and preserve the memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States, where around 3,000 people lost their lives.

The Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo held a tribute at the Memorial for Persons Forcibly Disappeared during the last war in Kosovo.

In a statement posted on social media, the PDK expressed honor for all those persons whose fate remains unclear, and solidarity with families who for more than two decades have been waiting for news about their relatives.

The party stressed that the process of finding the missing persons and establishing justice must continue without interruption until each and every one of them is identified.

“Truth, justice, and remembrance are our permanent obligation,” the PDK statement said.

In Pristina, the Friends of America Association today held a tribute in honor of the late US Senator Lindsay Olin Graham.

The event recognized the senator’s contribution to advancing issues of importance to the United States, as well as his friendship with Kosovo.

The head of the association, Agim Rexhepi, said this tribute represented the least that could be done. He expressed optimism that, in the future, the country’s institutions would undertake greater initiatives to recognize the support of the United States.

Rexhepi said that, as a sign of respect for the senator’s work, several gifts were distributed yesterday and today. They included a postcard and a leaflet detailing the activities of the Friends of America Association, as well as a number of posters, A5-format poster postcards, and materials in A5 and A4 formats.

According to him, this was the least that the people of Kosovo, namely the Albanian people, could do for Senator Lindsay Olin Graham.

He also apologized that it had not been possible to lower the American flag to half-staff in honor of the senator.

Rexhepi explained that in previous years, the American flag had been lowered to half-staff for other prominent figures and senators. In February, at the suggestion of the state protocol office, he had requested that the association take responsibility for organizing the tribute and lowering the flag to half-staff, but he immediately agreed that these matters should be handled by the state. For this reason, the association had been unable to take action to lower the flag.

During the tribute, it was emphasized that US Senator Lindsay Olin Graham had played a dominant role in the United States of America in drafting policies and laws, shaping key moments, and advancing American interests in politics and geopolitics.

Police officers and firefighters also attended the ceremony but declined to speak to the media.

As the eighth anniversary of his passing is marked, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti paid homage to honor the figure of Adem Demaçi, whom he described as the embodiment of resistance against the oppression of the Yugoslav and Serbian regime.

Through a public post, Kurti stressed that 28 years in prison could not break Demaçi, who remains a model of unwavering resilience and an inexhaustible source of inspiration for future generations. Comparing him to the global figure of Nelson Mandela, he called him “the Mandela of the Albanians and of Europe” and underlined that his legacy in the political, cultural, and historical spheres continues to serve as a compass for society.

“Glory to the life and work of Baca Adem Demaçi,” the prime minister concluded his message.

In the full text, Kurti states that today, on this anniversary, homages were paid in honor of Baca Adem, who himself has become synonymous with opposing the oppressive machinery exercised against Albanians. For this reason, according to him, he rightfully bears the epithet of Mandela for Albanians and the continent.

Kurti assessed that Adem Demaçi embodied indomitability and eternity. Despite spending 28 years behind bars, he never wavered from his path and convictions. According to the acting prime minister, Baca Adem possessed the dialectic of existence because he did not fear the end. He oscillated between freedom and the cell, transforming suffering into energy and turning violence into a force of resistance, which made him immortal. He, Kurti expressed, “had killed death.”
