Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has called on the government to intervene without delay because of the fire that broke out in the Matomara area, within the territory of the Municipality of Finiq.

According to her, the flames are advancing toward Mesopotam and the villages belonging to the Municipality of Delvinë.

Zhupa said that the dangerous blaze started this morning and that, although local structures began responding in the early hours, the fire has still not been brought under control.

Under these circumstances, the Democratic MP called on the central government to immediately mobilize all available resources.

She stressed the need to increase the number of firefighters on the ground, involve the Civil Emergencies structures and the Armed Forces, and seek international assistance for aerial intervention if necessary.

Zhupa said that the firefighting aircraft which, according to her, Edi Rama has promised every year and which are claimed to have been purchased last year by Pirro Vengu, do not exist.

For this reason, she urged the authorities to use without delay all the means at their disposal, warning that every minute lost favors the spread of the flames.

She called for a repeat of last year’s disaster in Delvinë to be avoided, when fires burned thousands of hectares and caused serious consequences for residents, the economy and the environment—consequences that, according to her, are still being felt.

The Director of Fier Police, Erion Ahmeti, has shared the latest information about the tense situation with the suspect in the serious incident, who remains isolated by law enforcement forces.

According to him, the individual is continuing to resist and has warned that he may harm himself.

“The suspect continues to resist and has told us: ‘Don’t come near me or I will end my life,’” Ahmeti informed reporters.

He specified that in efforts to persuade him to surrender, family members have not been called, while the police have set up an expanded perimeter to control his movements and avoid escalation.

“We have established a wide perimeter to isolate his position,” Ahmeti added, highlighting that the surrender negotiations are being led by specialized police units.

Refit Buzi, 35, is accused of executing his former father-in-law, leaving his former mother-in-law injured, and then violently abducting his ex-wife.

The main investigative lead focuses on the disputes that arose after the couple’s separation. Initial data suggests that the 35-year-old did not accept the separation requested by his former spouse, which is suspected to have contributed to the situation turning into a tragedy.

At the same time, investigators are also examining a second lead, which relates to family relationships and claims of property issues among those involved.

It is reported that Buzi previously lived in Britain and it is believed he sent financial support to his daughter.

As the operation to arrest the 35-year-old continues, authorities are investigating whether these conflicts played a role in the serious crime; the perpetrator had left the scene after the attack.

The crime occurred in the early hours of the day in Vidhisht, Roskovec, where Kosta Plaka lost his life and his wife, Belere Plaka, was injured. The author’s ex-spouse is believed to have been taken by force and disappeared from the scene.
