The State Statistical Office announced that the cost-of-living index, which is used to measure inflation, rose by 0.1% in July compared with June this year.

The most significant increase, of 4.4%, was recorded in the transport sector. Price increases were also registered in recreation and culture, housing, and hospitality services.

On the other hand, food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the largest decrease, of 1.1%, while furnishings and household equipment also declined.

Compared with the same period a year earlier, the cost of living in July was 2.3% higher, while retail prices rose by 1.8%.

According to data published today by the State Statistical Office, the net average salary at a monthly level for May 2026 was 49,544 denars.

If we compare it with the same period last year, specifically May 2025, this net average salary paid to employees recorded an increase of 8.2 percent.

This annual increase is mainly attributed to the positive performance of salaries in several sectors. Among them, water supply, wastewater and waste management, as well as environmental remediation activities, stand out with an increase of 11.9%. Likewise, the arts, entertainment and recreation sector grew by 11.3%, while transport and storage recorded a rise of 10.9%.

On a monthly basis, looking at changes from the previous month, an increase in the net average salary was registered in the sectors of wholesale and retail trade and repair of vehicles and motorcycles (6.3%), mining and quarrying (5.8%) and again in transport and storage (5.7%).
