Residents of the area affected by the massive fire in Himara have recounted the frightening moments they experienced last night, as the flames spread rapidly.

One resident said the situation worsened within just a few minutes, while police intervention enabled them to be evacuated from the area.

“We didn’t realize how quickly the fire arrived—it took 5–10 minutes. Then the police came and took us out. My husband’s cousin’s house was burned. These are inhabited homes, but the residents had gone out. The police came and took us out. There are two houses in this area,” she recounted.

Another resident, in tears, described last night’s situation with just one phrase: “It was terrifying.”

Meanwhile, aerial intervention began this morning, with helicopters dropping water on the active fire hotspots.

The Armed Forces and dozens of firefighters remain deployed on the ground, attempting to contain the flames and prevent the danger from reaching populated areas.
