IT expert Besmir Semanaj, who came from the diaspora to join the protest in Tirana, said on News24’s lunchtime programme that there are also left-wing citizens among those opposing Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to him, activists have provided MEPs, embassies and Western governments with information about the situation in Albania.

Semanaj said that comparing this information with official reports is bringing to light a reality that, until yesterday, had been kept hidden and distorted through institutional reports.

Referring to the protests organised in Vienna, he stressed that both left-wing and right-wing citizens take part in them.

According to Semanaj, the protests have also been joined by people with no party affiliation, including citizens who have never voted.

He also said that participants have set aside their personal beliefs to unite around a greater cause: a new Albania and a new system.

Semanaj argued that this is precisely why the international community is changing its approach towards Albania, while accusing the Government of manipulating information.

He also criticised the opposition, saying it has not been concerned about society, but has focused on three issues, dealt with elections and neglected everything else.

According to him, since 1990 Albanian politics has revolved around only three names, and the country needs someone who loves Albania. He stressed that their opposition is linked to the system and that this system cannot change without Rama leaving.
