The collection of signatures in support of the citizens’ legislative initiative to amend and supplement the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo will continue tomorrow, August 4, 2026, with the Kosovo Law Institute (IKD) in Pristina.

The institute announced that the booth will be located at “Mother Teresa” Square, near the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. There, citizens can learn about the content of the initiative and show their support by signing.

According to IKD, the legislative initiative is based on two main proposals for amendments to the Criminal Code.

“Through this citizens’ legislative initiative, it is being requested that the deliberate failure to implement decisions of the Constitutional Court be defined as a criminal offense, while the use of public funds for electoral benefits during election and pre-election periods be criminally punished,” the announcement states.

The institute has called on citizens to visit the booth and support the initiative by signing.

“IKD invites citizens to come to the booth at ‘Mother Teresa’ Square, obtain information about the citizens’ legislative initiative and support it by signing. Every signature helps strengthen the rule of law, ensure respect for the decisions of the Constitutional Court and protect public funds from misuse for electoral interests,” IKD’s announcement states.

The process of verifying the signatures of Democratic League of Kosovo delegates for calling an Extraordinary Assembly has concluded. The meeting aims to dismiss the current leader, Lumir Abdixhiku.

However, the exact timing of this Assembly remains undetermined.

The news was confirmed for Radio Dukagjini by party secretary Ilir Ferati, who explained that they are now in the technical preparations phase.

He explained that after verification ended, the finalization of some technical elements is awaited, while the secretariat is working to pave the way for a democratic leadership within the political entity as soon as possible. According to him, once everything is ready, the chairman will be notified and will then promptly send the invitation for the Assembly. Ferati added that there is no reason for delays and that Abdixhiku himself is interested in swiftly concluding this ritual to restore harmony among LDK members.

Regarding recent talks, the secretary reiterated that during the meeting between Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku, no specific names were mentioned, only principles.

Ferati stressed that no posts or personalities were discussed with the Vetëvendosje Movement during this meeting, but the principles that must be respected to move the talks forward were put on the table. He said they have not yet entered the phase of positions, and one of the fundamental discussion points remains resolving the issue of the president, which paved the way for elections. He recalled that Vjosa Osmani is the official LDK candidate, elected by the general council and also the list bearer, but emphasized that it is still early to talk about names, since without agreement on principles, the process cannot move forward.

When asked what is expected to happen if the coalition partner does not support Vjosa Osmani’s candidacy, the LDK official replied that this depends entirely on Vetëvendosje’s stance and will be addressed within the dialogue between the two parties.

He underlined that it is a matter for the Vetëvendosje Movement, not his party, and everything will be examined at the negotiating table. He repeated that it is premature to discuss names as long as the parties are still debating principles; only after a concrete result in this direction will the topic of figures be opened.

Meanwhile, while Vetëvendosje expresses readiness to resume talks, LDK clarifies that its internal developments are the work of its own structures and that further positions will be made public only after the reconfirmation process at the party’s helm is closed.

Ferati concluded by stating that these are internal matters that require no intervention from any other political force, and that after this process is resolved, just as the chairman has indicated by suspending discussions, the same stance is expected to be held after his reconfirmation. Then, the obligation to form and consolidate new institutions falls to the winning party.

His reaction follows information that on Tuesday, July 14, signatures were expected to be submitted for calling the LDK Assembly, where a vote of confidence would be sought for chairman Lumir Abdixhiku.

A week earlier, KosovaPress had exclusively revealed that at the head of this movement is Gazmend Muhaxheri, mayor of Peja, who is holding meetings across LDK branches throughout the country to gather the signatures of delegates aiming to oust Abdixhiku.

The background to the demand for his removal is linked to internal disappointment following the party’s poor performance in the June 7 elections.

Initially, there were calls for Abdixhiku’s resignation, but he categorically refused such a step.

In those elections, the LDK managed to secure only 16.69 percent of the votes, which gave it 18 seats in the Assembly of Kosovo.

According to the LDK’s internal regulations, the signatures of one-third of the assembly members do not bring about the immediate dismissal of the chairman, but merely create the opportunity to formally raise the issue of confidence.

The LDK Assembly is statutorily composed of 355 delegates emerging from branch assemblies, including the current chairman himself, Lumir Abdixhiku.

A source close to the “rebel” group said the necessary signatures of delegates have been secured to convene the party’s Extraordinary Assembly, where this body of the Democratic League would decide whether the current leader should step down or not.

KP reported exclusively on Sunday that this process is being led by the mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, who is also head of the LDK branch in that city. According to the report, he has been visiting party units in other municipalities across the country as well to seek delegates’ signatures for the confidence vote assembly on Abdixhiku.

The demand for his removal came as a result of internal dissatisfaction within the party over the LDK’s result in the June 7 elections.

The first to demand Abdixhiku’s resignation were the Peja branch, the Lipjan branch, as well as one of Prishtina’s party units. On the same day, Abdixhiku indicated that he would not give up his post in the party, while calling for the resignation of precisely those who had asked him to make way for a different leadership in the LDK.

The Democratic League, which in the June 7 elections was led by former president Vjosa Osmani, received 16.69 percent of the vote nationwide. With this result, it secured 18 seats in the Assembly of Kosovo.
