Crime Investigation units at the Vlorë Local Police Directorate have launched a targeted plan to verify high-value vehicles, with the aim of cracking down on assets acquired through criminal activity.

During checks carried out in the field, police brought in several luxury vehicles manufactured in recent years. Following the verifications, they found violations of asset-related legislation.

Preliminary investigations and statements taken from their possessors established that three of these vehicles could not be justified by the owners’ known and lawful income. Under these circumstances, police units seized the vehicles as material evidence, while the three individuals who possessed them were processed while at liberty for the criminal offense of “Laundering the Proceeds of Crime.”

In parallel with the criminal proceedings, police authorities in Vlorë have launched an in-depth asset investigation into the vehicle owners to trace the origin of their financial resources and how their assets were acquired. The State Police announced that actions of this kind will continue in the coming days to identify illicit assets.

Following Ergys Agasi’s arrest yesterday in Durrës, SPAK’s investigation appears to have expanded to include the assets of the businessman, who had been wanted since December 2025.

SPAK is also understood to have seized a luxury vehicle, a “Land Rover Defender”, which was parked in the garage of one of the villas at “Equos Resort”.

Agasi was arrested yesterday (August 26), after being declared wanted by SPAK in December 2025.

He was located while traveling in a vehicle together with former police officer Uljan Shpataraku, who was also arrested during the operation.

According to SPAK, he is suspected of a series of criminal offenses as part of the investigation into AKSHI procurement procedures, including illegal competition through violence, unlawful deprivation of liberty, violation of equality in tenders, and laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense.

According to the Special Prosecution Office, Ergys Agasi faces seven charges: “Illegal competition through violence”, “Unlawful deprivation of liberty”, “Violation of the equality of participants in tenders or public auctions”, committed in the special form of cooperation involving a structured criminal group, and “Structured criminal group”, “Commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group”, as well as “Laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity” and “Active corruption of persons exercising public functions”.

SPAK’s notice yesterday (August 26) on Agasi’s arrest

Following several weeks of work in close cooperation with the specialized operational structures of the State Police and the National Bureau of Investigation, today, August 26, 2026, the arrest of Ergys Agasi was carried out at the southern entrance to the city of Durrës, in the Plepa area, on the highway. At the time of his arrest, the citizen was accompanied by U. Sh., a former police officer, who was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offense of “Aiding the perpetrator”, provided for by Article 302/2 of the Criminal Code.

The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime is continuing its investigations into criminal proceeding No. 20/1 of 2025, in which the name of Ergys Agasi was also registered on December 5, 2025. The citizen is being investigated for the commission of the following criminal offenses: “Illegal competition through violence”, “Unlawful deprivation of liberty”, “Violation of the equality of participants in tenders or public auctions”, committed in the special form of cooperation involving a structured criminal group, and “Structured criminal group”, “Commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group”, as well as “Laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity”, provided for by Articles 110, 170/b and 28/4, 258, 287 and 333/a and 334 of the Criminal Code; and “Active corruption of persons exercising public functions”, committed in cooperation and more than once, provided for by the second paragraph of Article 244 of the Criminal Code.

With regard to the person under investigation, specifically Ergys Agasi, by Decision No. 125 dated December 15, 2025, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, the security measure of “imprisonment” was imposed, as provided for by Article 238 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The court’s decision was immediately forwarded to the State Police structures for execution by official letter No. 43104, dated December 17, 2025.

Lezhë police have arrested a 39-year-old trader who was selling luxury items without justified origin in his shop. It is suspected that prestigious brand wristwatches and gold jewelry were previously stolen in other countries and smuggled into Albania.

In coordination with the Prosecution, the coded operation “Final O’clock” was finalized, which followed lengthy investigative work by the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Section. During the intervention, the citizen with initials A. M., resident in Lezhë, was handcuffed.

According to the official announcement, the suspect is believed to have supplied high-value goods for which legal provenance documentation was missing. Checks conducted in the jewelry shop premises led to the seizure of a large quantity of material evidence: 133 luxury brand wristwatches with no accompanying documents, gold jewelry weighing a total of approximately 3.3 kilograms not covered by purchase invoices, as well as monetary amounts of 270,500 lekë and 2,700 euros, which are thought to derive precisely from this illegal activity.

According to preliminary calculations, the seized assets reach a value of around 300,000 euros. Investigators are continuing work to fully uncover the criminal scheme and to discover whether other individuals have cooperated with the arrested person. The complete file has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Lezhë General Jurisdiction Court for follow-up.

The drugs, with an estimated street value of 816 million Australian dollars (433 million pounds, 500 million euros), were found on Friday in hidden compartments beneath false floors in three shipping containers on a property in Londonderry.

Two men aged 21 and 25, who are suspected of trying to flee from police, were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a commercial quantity of a drug illegally imported across the border.

Police said the cocaine was smuggled into Australia through the small town of Midge Point in North Queensland on the orders of an organized crime group. The suspects, who were remanded in custody after appearing in court on Saturday, face life imprisonment if convicted.

Police said the raid on the Londonderry property was part of Operation Minjiang, which was launched in May after 40 kg of cocaine was found floating in the water near a boat ramp in Midge Point.

Six other people in Queensland and New South Wales were arrested and charged as part of the investigation launched after that discovery, police said last week.

A vessel suspected of being part of the smuggling operation has also been detained in the Solomon Islands. Despite its remoteness, Australia is a lucrative market for the drug trade, with cocaine typically selling for about 300 Australian dollars per gram, according to an illicit drug monitoring system run by the University of New South Wales.

Australians and New Zealanders also have the highest levels of cocaine use in the world, according to last year’s UN World Drug Report.

“The alleged plot shows just how organized and determined these criminal networks are and how far they are willing to go in pursuit of profit.

The investigation into the origin of the drugs is ongoing, and we will work with our international and domestic law enforcement partners to identify the criminal syndicates and anyone else involved in facilitating this alleged drug importation attempt,” said Stephen Jay, Commander of the Australian Federal Police.
