Today, the Supreme Court is reviewing the case concerning the security measure imposed on Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj. The hearing is being held in chambers, with the focus of the review on the “arrest in prison” measure imposed on Veliaj.

The case has been returned for review following a decision by the Constitutional Court, which requested a reassessment of the proportionality of the security measure.

The Supreme Court will assess the arguments of the parties and the circumstances of the case to determine whether the arrest measure should remain in place or be changed.

Erion Veliaj has been under the “arrest in prison” measure for months as part of the SPAK investigation.

It remains to be seen whether the Court will decide to uphold the “arrest in prison” measure or replace it with another security measure.
