The Vetëvendosje Movement has responded to the PDK’s initiative concerning the draft law on the Special Court in the Assembly, calling for the matter to be addressed with heightened legal and institutional care.

LVV emphasizes that the Constitutional Court’s decision on the constitution of the Assembly should first be awaited, as the request submitted to the court has not yet been withdrawn. According to LVV, only after this decision can the legal consequences that may arise from it be assessed.

With regard to the proposal to amend and supplement the law, the Vetëvendosje Movement says it will analyze it in detail, examining its compliance with applicable legislation and the impact that such an intervention could have at this stage of the proceedings before the Specialist Chambers.

The party considers that the fact that proceedings against the four former KLA leaders are being conducted by different defense teams must also be taken into account. For this reason, every initiative should also be analyzed in relation to the interests and legal strategies of each case separately.

LVV believes that it is now necessary to establish a common institutional and state position, based on a comprehensive legal review.

According to LVV, any step should be taken only after the possible legal consequences have been carefully analyzed, particularly those related to the second-instance proceedings, namely the appeals process.

The aim, LVV concludes, should be for the actions of the institutions to be well-considered and coordinated and not to cause unintended consequences for the judicial proceedings that are still ongoing.

Kosovo Police has provided clarification regarding the measures taken in connection with the protest held in Pristina against the sentencing of former KLA leaders. According to the police, the additional checks at the entrances to the capital’s roads were intended to prevent dangerous driving that jeopardizes the safety of road users.

In a statement dated September 19, 2026, the police recalled that after the protest held in Pristina at 21:00 on September 18, 2026, several people had paraded in vehicles, driven dangerously and climbed on top of cars. According to the police, these actions had endangered road users and continued into the late hours after midnight.

To ensure the smooth running of the protest held in Pristina on September 19, 2026, also at 21:00, as well as to maintain traffic flow and prevent possible accidents, the police said they were compelled to step up measures at entrances to the capital’s roads.

The police stressed that they did not intend to prevent or obstruct citizens from taking part in the protest, nor to impede vehicles being driven in accordance with the rules. They said the measures were aimed at dangerous driving and people who violate the law and road traffic regulations.

Finally, Kosovo Police reiterated that it recognizes citizens’ right to peaceful and democratic protest and thanked them for their cooperation.

The GUXO party has responded to the protests and public debate sparked by the latest convictions handed down by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, opposing the political attacks against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Donika Gërvalla.

In a press release, the political party said that citizens’ concerns and the right to protest are part of democracy, but criticized their use for “political smearing.”

GUXO emphasized that the decisions in The Hague should be challenged and addressed through legal channels. At the same time, according to the party, political accountability should also be sought from those who voted for, negotiated and supported the establishment of the Specialist Court.

In its response, the party questioned the reasons behind the attacks on Donika Gërvalla, asking whether they are truly related to developments in The Hague or to the law on investigating unjustified assets.

Justice yes, political manipulation no

The response of citizens to the latest convictions handed down by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague is entirely understandable and legitimate. Protest is a fundamental right in a democratic society, and citizens’ voices must therefore be heard and respected.

However, the draconian sentences that caused this widespread discontent cannot be changed through political and public attacks. They can be addressed only through due legal process. In this regard, the Court of Appeals, as the second-instance court, remains the only institutional avenue for addressing this issue.

No court decision can undo the justness of the people of Kosovo’s struggle for freedom and independence, which remains just and sacred.

Therefore, the question that must be asked is clear: Why is political accountability not being sought from those who voted for, negotiated and supported the Specialist Court? Today, the campaign of accusations and smears is being led precisely by those who, in television studios and elsewhere, called for imprisonment, read out names and exerted extraordinary pressure for this law to be passed by the Assembly.

It is unacceptable that, instead of a review based on facts and concrete actions to understand how this situation came about, there is an attempt to portray Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Donika Gërvalla as politically “guilty.”

Historically, public lynching and extreme smearing have also preceded the physical elimination of prominent national figures.

For this reason, the Guxo Party asks: Where is the resurgence of the ghosts of the hit lists from 1997, 1998 and 1999 coming from? These developments raise serious doubts: Are they showing that independent judicial proceedings still cannot take place in Kosovo without political pressure and outside interference? What message is being sent to the world through these campaigns and protests against justice institutions?

Our society must decide whether it seeks justice only when it serves narrow political interests, or whether it seeks justice based strictly on the law rather than on the demands of groups that treat the law as their own property.

The Guxo Party is convinced that justice must never be turned into a tool for internal political clashes.

Finally, another question must be asked: Are the attacks on Donika related to The Hague or to the law on investigating unjustified assets? The insults published on news portals today prove that the latter is the answer.

Therefore:

Citizens’ concern, yes.

Protest, yes.

Accountability, yes.

Political lynching, under no circumstances.

Following the ruling by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague concerning the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the family of slain activist Haki Imeri has issued a public response.

The family recalled that the court was established by the Kosovo Parliament and that its rulings were therefore something that should have been anticipated from the moment it was founded. The statement reads: “The Kosovo Parliament established it, and when you established it, you should have understood that this day would eventually come.”

Referring to the judgment announced in The Hague, the Imeri family wrote: “The Specialist Court has spoken. The Specialist Court has delivered its verdict.” It called for calm and for people to await the next stages of the judicial process.

The statement also rejected remarks made after the ruling by Richard Grenell, the former US envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Citizens were urged not to place their trust in claims of political interference in the process.

“Do not believe Grenell’s ‘friends,’ because they cannot help anyone in this process,” the Imeri family’s statement said.

Criticism of Grenell was expressed even more directly in another part of the statement: “Do not listen to Richard Grenell, because he does nothing for Albanians; he only does things for Vučić.”

The family claims that Grenell’s positions and those of his supporters had fueled expectations that former President Hashim Thaçi would not be convicted because he would be saved through the intervention of US President Donald Trump and Grenell.

Continuing its criticism of his positions, the statement called for Grenell to be declared persona non grata in Kosovo. “Grenell must be declared ‘persona non grata’ in Kosovo,” it said.

In conclusion, Haki Imeri’s family called for the Court of Appeals’ ruling to be awaited patiently and without prejudice. “Wait patiently for the appeal and do not prejudge,” the statement emphasized, noting that the sentence could change during the appeals process, depending on the court’s decision.

Altin Krasniqi, the son of Jakup Krasniqi, has reacted again, one day after the ruling in The Hague sentencing his father to 25 years in prison.

In his response, Altin shared a saying by his father and said that yesterday’s verdict had shattered the family’s faith in justice.

He wrote that a person is stronger than stone, as they can endure even what stone cannot bear, stressing that he now understood just how true his father’s words were.

Altin said that life had been unfair to Jakup Krasniqi, but that he had continued to hold his head high. According to him, even after six years of waiting and pain, the family had never seen him give up.

He stressed that the decision had not broken his father, but had torn something inside the family and destroyed their faith in justice.

Nevertheless, Altin vowed that they would continue to stand firm, just as his father had taught them: with pain in their hearts, but always with their heads held high.

The State Police have referred the procedural materials to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, following a complaint filed by O. S., a 34-year-old resident of Tirana, who stated that he had received a threatening message on his account on a social network.

The message is suspected to have been sent from a fake account. As part of the investigative proceedings, efforts are underway to identify the perpetrator and fully document the circumstances of the case.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for the criminal offenses of “Computer forgery,” “Stalking,” and “Threat,” as provided for under Articles 186/a, 121/a, and 84 of the Criminal Code.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of fully clarifying the circumstances of the case and identifying the person responsible.

Vetëvendosje Movement MP Nezir Kraki has reacted after the process of constituting the Assembly was blocked, asking the Democratic Party of Kosovo to propose a new name for the post of deputy speaker.

According to Kraki, PDK had previously obstructed the constitution of the Assembly by calling for the candidate’s name for the position to be changed.

“Do you remember how PDK blocked the constitution of the Assembly with that demand, ‘Change the name!’? We changed not one, but five names to unblock the situation,” Kraki wrote.

He said that PDK should now act in the same way by putting forward another candidate so that the Assembly can continue its work.

“Now it is both appropriate and correct for PDK to propose someone else for deputy speaker of the Assembly so that we can continue working,” he stated.

Kraki also emphasized that the party has other alternatives for the position.

“There are 21 more possible names,” he wrote.

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office has welcomed the guilty verdict handed down by the Basic Court in Pristina during the retrial of the “€53 million” case. The judgment reaffirmed the guilt of Pal Lekaj, Eset Berisha, Nebih Shatri and Besim Tahiri for abuse of official duty.

According to an official statement, the SPRK described the outcome as a significant triumph for the rule of law, ensuring accountability for high-level corruption. It demonstrates that abuse of public office and misuse of state funds inevitably result in accountability before the law.

According to the prosecuting authority’s response, the Prosecution Office reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption and to prosecuting anyone suspected of committing such offenses.

The Special Prosecution Office’s indictment, filed on February 4, 2022, targeted four senior officials for the joint and premeditated abuse of official authority. Pal Lekaj, in his role as infrastructure minister; Eset Berisha, his senior political adviser; Nebih Shatri, serving as the ministry’s secretary-general; and Besim Tahiri, the department’s procurement director, were charged in connection with the allocation of €53 million to the companies “Bechtel & Enka” during the Pristina-Hani i Elezit highway project, known as the “Arbën Xhaferi” highway.

LDK MP Arben Gashi has responded to acting Minister for Communities and Returns Nenad Rašić following the latter’s statements concerning allegations that he had used language against Kosovo and Albanians.

In a Facebook post, Gashi said he stood by his words. He recalled a meeting held outside Kosovo with representatives of important organizations, whose names he did not disclose for reasons of confidentiality.

According to Gashi, Rašić spoke at that meeting about his underage son and the injury to his hand. The MP said he had conveyed the message to him at the time that integration was possible, adding that he was now pleased Rašić had become convinced that the Kosovo Police serve all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity.

Gashi congratulated Rašić for having realized, according to him, that he had been wrong, adding that minutes of these discussions also exist. At the end of his response, he said he had nothing more to add regarding the acting minister.

State Advocacy has responded to the article titled “Money and the President – Bekim Sejdiu Won a Tender at Donika Gërvalla’s Ministry Four Months Ago,” as well as yesterday’s reports by other media outlets on the same issue. The institution described the published findings as untrue and inaccurate.

According to State Advocacy, the claim that Prof. Dr. Bekim Sejdiu “benefited from a tender at the Ministry of Justice” misrepresents the nature of his engagement and the procedure through which it was carried out.

Sejdiu was engaged as a local expert in two international arbitration proceedings, at the proposal of the international law firms representing and defending the interests of the Republic of Kosovo. State Advocacy stresses that this engagement was carried out in accordance with public procurement rules.

The economic operator “Legalis SSM L.L.C” is engaged in these two international arbitration proceedings, in which the interests of the Republic of Kosovo are represented.

The institution explains that, in international arbitration cases, international law firms determine the necessary expertise and the profile of the local expert, depending on the nature of the matter and the requirements of the proceedings.

In this particular case, the proposal to engage Prof. Dr. Bekim Sejdiu came from the international law firms representing Kosovo in these proceedings. For this reason, State Advocacy considers it inaccurate to portray this engagement as a “tender obtained from the Ministry of Justice” or as an action undertaken for a specific personal benefit, since such wording creates a false perception among the public.

State Advocacy, which operates as an agency within the Ministry of Justice, has continuously engaged local experts for arbitration proceedings. These engagements have also included university professors from various fields, while the same procedures have been followed in every case.

According to the clarification, the entire procedure for engaging the experts was conducted in accordance with public procurement rules and procedures. The contracts concluded are framework contracts for the provision of professional services in international arbitration proceedings.

The framework contracts provide for services that may be offered over a two-year period. They do not mean that the entire specified amount is paid automatically, as payments are made only for professional services actually performed in the respective arbitration proceedings.

These services may include preparing written expert opinions, responding to the opposing party’s arguments and claims, participating in arbitration hearings, as well as other professional services related to the case.

State Advocacy also explains that the amounts specified in the framework contract are not intended solely for the local expert. A considerable portion is allocated to international experts, whose identities and details cannot be made public because of the confidentiality rules applicable to international arbitration proceedings.

The Ministry of Justice says it remains committed to transparency and to providing the public with accurate information. According to the ministry, reporting on matters of public interest should be based on complete facts and a correct presentation of institutional procedures.
