Yulia Svyrydenko has been dismissed from her post as prime minister after Ukraine’s parliament approved the decision today, according to the parliamentary session. Media outlets report that 258 members of Ukraine’s parliament voted in favour of dismissing the head of government, while one voted against. Five other members abstained and 47 did not vote.

Svyrydenko’s dismissal

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans to reorganise the cabinet of ministers. He has offered Svyrydenko a new position, but did not provide details. In her statement, she confirmed her resignation and her willingness to continue working in the new role. It is likely to be the position of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States.

The prime minister’s resignation also means the resignation of the government. Therefore, following the appointment of a new prime minister, Ukraine’s parliament must reappoint the ministers. Among the candidates mentioned to lead the government are former prime minister and current Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, and Serhii Koretsky, chief executive of the state-owned company Naftogaz.

After the latest elections, calls for changes at the top of the LDK have increased.

Sources within the LDK say signatures are being collected to convene an Extraordinary Assembly, where the issue of confidence in party leader Lumir Abdixhiku is also expected to be raised. According to the same sources, the initiative was launched by Gazmend Muhaxheri.

Political analyst Vesel Makolli believes the developments in the LDK require deep political reflection, stressing that three consecutive electoral defeats show a loss of citizens’ trust.

According to him, dissatisfaction within the party is no longer merely a matter of perception, but a political reality, while demands for accountability and change are gaining more support every day in the branches and structures of the LDK.

“The situation in the LDK requires a calm political analysis. Election results are not just numbers; they are the citizens’ verdict. When an eminent party in Kosovo’s political history such as the LDK fails to restore the electorate’s trust in three consecutive elections, political responsibility cannot be relativized – it must come as soon as possible.

The LDK is going through one of the most difficult periods in its history. The dissatisfaction of the membership is no longer a matter of perception, but a political reality. The voice calling for accountability and change is being heard more and more every day in branches, sub-branches and among its activists,” he said.

Makolli says that one of Lumir Abdixhiku’s biggest mistakes was bringing Vjosa Osmani back and placing her at the top of the LDK’s electoral list, adding that this has caused major dissatisfaction within the party.

He also believes that the LDK must rebuild its internal unity and bring back figures who, according to him, were left outside the structures because of their opposition to Vjosa Osmani. As an example, he mentions the former chairman of the Podujeva branch, Agim Veliu.

“The return of Vjosa Osmani, who through her political actions had significantly harmed the party, and placing her at the top of the LDK’s electoral list – is the biggest mistake that Chairman Abdixhiku could have made. This move has created dissatisfaction and opposition both among party cadres and among the membership in general.

The situation has been further electrified by Abdixhiku’s stance toward the two initiators of his dismissal, namely the mayors of two successful municipalities, Peja and Lipjan. Instead of their request being treated as a serious signal of dissatisfaction within the party and as an opportunity for reflection, the chairman’s reaction has left the impression of a confrontation with critical voices. This has only deepened the divide between the leadership and part of the membership, further worsening the internal climate in the LDK.

The LDK, as a right-wing party with the strongest institutional tradition, needs internal homogeneity, which must be achieved through deeds and not just words.

It is achieved when the door is opened and all those who opposed Vjosa Osmani at the time when she helped VV block international agreements requested by our allies and NATO are rehabilitated; those who were later, in various ways and through insinuations, removed or sidelined from the branches or from the LDK central leadership and from the electoral list. A striking example is the former chairman of the Podujeva branch, Agim Veliu, the convincing winner of all local elections and one of those LDK members who bears bullet wounds on his body,” Makolli told “Bota sot”.

In the end, Makolli states that if the information about the collection of 200 signatures proves true, then Lumir Abdixhiku’s resignation would be the best option for the LDK. According to him, this would pave the way for reforms, for a democratic race within the party and for easing internal tensions.

“Last night it was reported that the dissatisfied members within the LDK have collected 200 signatures, out of a total of 355 members in the party Assembly, which means around 57% of its composition. According to the information circulating, the collection of signatures is continuing and the number of those supporting the necessary changes in the party leadership is increasing.

If this information turns out to be accurate, the best solution, both for the future of the LDK and for chairman Lumir Abdixhiku himself, would be for him to make way as soon as possible for genuine reforms in the party. His resignation would enable the LDK bodies, in accordance with the Statute, to appoint an interim chairman, who would lead the party until the Election Assembly is held.

Such a move would help reduce internal tensions, create conditions for a democratic and equal contest for the party leadership, and give the LDK the opportunity to emerge from this crisis more united and better prepared for the political challenges awaiting the party and Kosovo in particular,” he concluded for the newspaper.

Mimoza Berbatovci-Ukimeraj has announced that she has resigned from her position as director of the Nephrology Clinic at UCCK, after five years at the head of the clinic. According to her, the decision was made because of a lack of institutional cooperation and continuous pressure while carrying out the role.

She had been appointed to the position during the mandate of the Vetëvendosje Movement government, while her departure is taking place in the second term, which she will not complete.

Through a Facebook post, Berbatovci-Ukimeraj said that during her work she faced difficulties in relation to the leadership structures of SHSKUK and UCCK. According to her, this situation affected her ability to carry out her professional responsibilities normally.

“This decision comes after a long period of efforts to carry out the duty with professionalism, integrity and transparency, in circumstances characterized by a lack of institutional cooperation with the leadership structures of SHSKUK and UCCK and by continuous pressures that have undermined my professional independence and made it impossible to normally exercise the responsibilities arising from this position,” she wrote, among other things.

In her public reaction, she stressed that a leadership function must be exercised on the basis of the law, professional ethics, institutional cooperation and mutual respect. According to her, when these principles are absent and obstacles are created to fulfilling responsibilities in the interest of patients, staff and the institution, resignation constitutes an act of responsibility and professional and personal integrity, and not an evasion of responsibility.

Berbatovci-Ukimeraj also listed several of the projects carried out during her leadership of the Nephrology Clinic. She mentioned the operationalization of the Hemodialysis Center in Rahovec, after many years of efforts, as well as the start of hemodialysis services at the Podujeva Polyclinic, with the aim of easing access to treatment for many patients.

She also highlighted the start of measuring immunosuppressive drug levels, a service which, according to her, is of particular importance for transplant patients.

In the post, she said that in cooperation with Prof. Shemsedin Sadiku, they were the initiators of the request to obtain a construction permit for the new building of the Nephrology Clinic with Hemato-Oncology, a project that is now in its final phase.

She also mentioned the launch of therapeutic plasmapheresis services, which according to her was achieved after many years of work and commitment. However, she clarified that although this service is now functional, the consumable materials and the necessary staff training for other treatment modalities have still not been secured.

According to her, following requests and continuous efforts to secure new hemodialysis machines, the procurement of new equipment was completed during her term, enabling patients to receive treatment on modern devices in line with contemporary nephrology standards.

The former director said she feels a professional and moral obligation to inform the public opinion about projects that are in the final phase or are still awaiting implementation.

She said the process for starting renal biopsy is almost complete, but the full implementation of this service, according to her, continues to depend on securing consumable materials at the Institute of Pathology, an issue she stressed was not within her competence but that of the responsible institutions.

At the same time, she announced that the Clinic has also been equipped with a microscope for examining urinary sediment, but to date the necessary laboratory technician for processing samples has not been secured, which has prevented this service from becoming operational.

Berbatovci-Ukimeraj added that the project for renovating the Hemodialysis Service is ready to begin, but has remained pending a decision on the relocation of patients during the construction period.

She also mentioned that the Clinic is awaiting the receipt of the PrisMax Flex machine, a donation that has been accepted by the management but has still not been delivered to the Nephrology Clinic.

In the end, she stressed that all these developments are the result of the joint work of the Nephrology Clinic staff, to whom she expressed sincere thanks and gratitude for their professionalism, dedication and continuous support.

Berbatovci-Ukimeraj said she is proud of what has been achieved during this period and said she believes these projects will continue until their full operationalization, in the interest of patients and Kosovo’s healthcare system.

After a poor result in the most recent elections, the process of collecting signatures to call an extraordinary party assembly has begun within the Democratic League of Kosovo.

At this assembly, a request is expected to be put forward for the dismissal of LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku.

According to what KosovaPress has learned, the initiative is being led by the mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri. KosovaPress sources say that he is visiting party branches across the country and seeking the signatures of delegates.

According to the media outlet’s sources from one of the LDK branches, as well as from delegates who have already given their signatures, the number of signatures collected so far is around 150, while the LDK has a total of 355 delegates.

Meanwhile, the media outlet has learned that Shkëmb Manaj had also visited the same branch, where he was trying to persuade delegates not to give their signatures.

During the day today, the media outlet tried to contact both Manaj and Muhaxheri, but neither of them was reachable and neither had commented by the time this article was published.

Marius Dervishi, known to the public as “Zebërvoki,” has announced his decision to leave the ranks of the State Police. In a reaction on social media, he said that on Monday he will officially submit his resignation request, bringing his career as a police officer to an end.

In his Instagram story, Dervishi is highly critical of the climate created in public opinion toward the blue uniforms. He denounces what he calls an unfair “campaign” against police officers, stressing that officers are often collectively labeled as criminals or abusers, regardless of the real situation on the ground.

This decision comes just one day after the protests held near the Parliament area, where fierce clashes were recorded between protesters and law enforcement forces.

Full reaction:

“We are the ‘POLICE WE DO NOT WANT’, and for this reason, starting Monday I am submitting my resignation request from the job.

Not because the police officers are bad, not because I no longer love my job, but simply because I no longer want to make any kind of contribution to anything.

Police officers always criminals, police officers always abusive, police officers political operatives — whatever epithet you have placed on us. The media against us, the people against us, and in fact we who are the victims are being portrayed as the perpetrators. I cannot stomach this kind of campaign where in everything the POLICE are to blame.

I have not sold my righteous soul and, beyond every other good thing God has made possible for me, I still choose to be an officer of a police force, but I am nevertheless ‘abandoning’ this passion, driven by the resentment and hatred that you as a people have for police officers and by the generalization you make by considering all police officers the same.

But do not forget one thing: ‘What the eye of the camera does not see, God above sees’”, he writes.

Besnik Osmani has left the Fushë Kosovë branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), following his resignation from this structure.

The news was confirmed by Ali Topalli, an LDK assembly member in the Municipal Assembly of this municipality.

According to Topalli, this decision is linked to the result of the June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections, as well as the need for internal reforms within the party.

“It is true that Mr. Osmani has resigned. The reasons are the poor election results for the LDK and the need for general elections in the LDK,” he said.

Osmani had also been the LDK’s candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Fushë Kosovë in the local elections held at the end of last year, but he had failed to retain this municipality, which had been considered a bastion of the party.

So far, Besnik Osmani has not spoken publicly about his resignation.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Saturday that he will resign within a few weeks and announced the holding of early presidential and parliamentary elections.

Vucic’s announcement comes after a year and a half of student-led anti-corruption protests that spread across the country following the collapse of a shelter at the railway station in the northern city of Novi Sad, where 16 people lost their lives.

A few days earlier, in Novi Sad, students commemorated the victims of 2024 and called for early general elections.

“I will be president for only a few more weeks and then I will resign,” Vucic told his supporters during a pro-government rally in the capital, Belgrade. His second and final term ends in mid-2027.

Vucic also said he would help the Serbian Progressive Party win the elections, including the early parliamentary vote, which had initially been scheduled for 2027. However, he did not specify when he would resign or when he might dissolve parliament, a necessary condition for holding early parliamentary elections.

Protesters, the opposition and human rights organizations claim that the tragedy at the railway station was a sign of mismanagement of construction projects and corruption in the government. Activists in the student movement say they aim to challenge Vucic and the SNS in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

After the result of the June 7 elections, in which the Democratic League of Kosovo ranked third behind the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic Party of Kosovo, internal tensions and debates over the party’s political course have resurfaced within the party. This result did not change the position the LDK had also held in the previous two elections, bringing the issue of leadership responsibility back into focus.

During this week, public calls for the resignation of chairman Lumir Abdixhiku were voiced by prominent party figures, including the head of the LDK branch in Lipjan, Imri Ahmeti, and the head of the LDK branch in Peja, Gazmend Muhaxhiri.

According to them, Abdixhiku should take responsibility for the election result and for the lack of any clear electoral growth for the LDK.

For his part, Abdixhiku responded to these criticisms by calling on the critics themselves to resign, which has further intensified the internal debate over the party’s future.

These developments have opened discussion about the current situation in the LDK, the way post-election challenges are being managed, and its political direction going forward. In this context, questions are being raised about the impact these clashes could have on party unity, the risk of deepening divisions, and the steps that may be taken in the coming days and weeks.

Mjaki: Lumir is not the one who unites the LDK

The first to speak about these developments to “Bota sot” was LDK activist in Switzerland, Ismet Mjaki, who expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction.

According to Mjaki, Abdixhiku acted according to his own will, choosing to bring Osmani closer, but without including important LDK figures in the party, such as Bislimi and Murtezaj.

“We are following from afar what is happening in the LDK after the elections. So, Lumir had sought a vote of confidence from the Assembly and received it from 55% of the delegates, which in a democracy is fine. But as a leader, with no opponent at all, to come out against 45% is terrible if you want to continue. Nevertheless, Lumir did as he pleased, without even forming the LDK Presidency for some time, so that he himself could decide, just like a pasha, and he did this from one end to the other.

Lumir brought Vjosa closer to save himself, and Vjosa, since she was politically dead, was saved by Lumir. I think Lumir did well to bring Vjosa in, but he did not bring in either Faton Bislimi or Valon Murtezaj from the diaspora, nor many others who were the DNA of the LDK,” he said.

Mjaki also believes that Abdixhiku is not the figure who can keep the LDK united because, according to him, he makes rash decisions and harms himself even in the eyes of the electorate.

“Lumir used the Assembly’s powers, even though the decision was that those holding posts should not be engaged. Even so, he made Ilir Ferati secretary, even though he holds the post of mayor, and Sokol Haliti secretary for abroad, even though we have no need for such theatrics in the diaspora.

Lumir is not the one who unites the LDK. He is very hot-tempered and makes decisions without thinking, making himself look bad before the electorate. A chairman who has a problem with a mayor gets in the car, goes and has dinner, and they sort it out — not with childish statements such as: ‘Let them send me their resignation, I will accept it.’ This shows that he is dividing the LDK.”

He further lined up behind the calls for the chairman’s resignation, saying that he must answer for the situation created within the party.

“Under the LDK statute, which he was not even alive when it was made, members have the right to demand accountability, resignation, and to convene the Assembly with one-third of the votes. Lumir may be able to divide the LDK, but not unite it,” Ismet Mjaki concluded for “Bota sot.”

Dajaku: The LDK needs reform and revitalization

Xhevat Dajaku, the brother of former President Rugova’s bodyguard, Besim Dajaku, also spoke about the latest developments in the LDK and the clashes surrounding it.

He first stressed that a leadership post in a political party should not be seen as a privilege, but above all as a responsibility. In this context, he said that there are individuals within the LDK who view the party simply as a tool for personal interests.

“Political parties are organized formations built around a political program and vision, shaped by experts and people with ideas and concepts for the future of society and the state. Therefore, taking a leadership position in a political party is not only a privilege, but above all a responsibility toward the party, the citizens, and the country as a whole.

However, it often happens that certain individuals see the party as a means of advancing personal interests or those of irresponsible groups, damaging the public interest and creating obstacles that in many cases have cost the state and society dearly.”

Dajaku also recalled the period when the LDK was led by historic president Ibrahim Rugova, emphasizing that after his death, divisions and disagreements have continually emerged within the party, in his view.

In this spirit, he supported the calls for the chairman’s resignation, stressing that they should not be seen as an attack on the political party itself.

“The LDK has a rich and glorious history. Throughout its journey, it took measured and decisive steps, especially in organizing parallel institutions under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, known to all those who judge with reason and objectivity. It was attacked and criticized both by Serbian enemies and by Albanians with different political positions. Nevertheless, it continued on its path until the death of the historic President, Ibrahim Rugova. After that period, internal divisions and disagreements began to appear, which are known to the public and continue to be reflected even today.

Therefore, calls for resignation or for political accountability should not be interpreted as attacks or opposition to the party, but as calls for open, transparent, and democratic debate within the party’s legitimate bodies. In every political party there are individuals and groups with good intentions, but there may also be those driven by narrow and harmful interests. For precisely this reason, serious debate, in-depth analysis, and assessments based on arguments are needed, while accepting the political reality, the causes, the circumstances, and the consequences of various developments.”

In the end, he said the LDK needs deep reforms because, according to him, unprincipled cooperation with certain entities has significantly harmed it.

He even warned that in the absence of the necessary changes, there is a risk the party will continue to lose public support.

“The LDK needs reform and revitalization. A large part of its traditional electorate, which today remains mostly silent, was connected to the values and policies that once characterized this party. However, internal developments, not always fair, as well as unprincipled cooperation with entities in which elements suspected of criminal activity have been mentioned, have caused many voters to lose trust and distance themselves from the political process, even to the point of abstaining.

The LDK needs the return of meritocracy, just as it was one of the fundamental principles in the time of President Rugova. Without meritocracy, without free debate, and without the democratic culture that once distinguished this party, not only will current efforts for accountability and reform fail, but there is a risk that the LDK will continue to lose public support and be pushed even further toward the margins of the political scene,” Xhevat Dajaku concluded for “Bota sot.”

Poor results in the most recent elections have triggered strong reactions within the LDK. At a joint meeting of the Presidency of the Lipjan Branch with the heads of its sub-branches, the resignation of the party leader was demanded, on the grounds that this is a necessary standard of political accountability and an act of reflection on the message citizens delivered through their vote.

The same position was also expressed by the LDK Branch in Peja. After a Presidency meeting and a review of the results of the latest elections, the majority of members called for deep political reflection and for the central leadership to take responsibility for the result achieved.

The public stance taken by two important branches with such demands shows that dissatisfaction with the party’s current leadership is no longer an isolated case, but is becoming a serious concern within its structures. These moves signal that within the LDK, the need is growing for open debate and for decisions that would pave the way for a new political and organizational process.

Political analyst Nexhat Haziri spoke to “Bota sot” about this issue.

He described the call for Lumir Abdixhiku’s resignation after the LDK’s defeats as justified, while interpreting his move closer to the LVV as an attempt to preserve his position within the party.

“The demand from LDK branches, such as those in Peja and Lipjan, for Lumir Abdixhiku to resign from the leadership of the party because of the LDK’s poor results in the last two parliamentary elections is entirely understandable and necessary. These demands naturally also come as a result of Mr. Abdixhiku’s unwillingness to reflect and to take responsibility for the LDK’s continued electoral defeats, as well as for the weakening of its role on Kosovo’s political scene.

“Instead of resigning, he is seeking salvation by moving closer to the LVV for a coalition in Albin Kurti’s new government. With this coalition, he hopes to hold the LDK hostage for his personal and clan interests,” he said.

According to Haziri, the internal crisis in the LDK is deepening, and overcoming it can happen only through Lumir Abdixhiku’s resignation and the start of a new internal electoral process within the party.

He also assessed that a coalition with the LVV would not save the LDK, but would serve only the interests of Abdixhiku and his inner circle.

“This also shows the deepening of the internal crisis in the LDK, which can be avoided only by Mr. Abdixhiku’s resignation from the party leadership and by moving into an internal electoral process. The demand for his resignation from the leadership of the LDK will also be seen in the coming days from other branches, while any other step by Abdixhiku, or any attempt by him other than resignation, will deepen the internal crisis in the LDK even further. There is even a chance that the party could be hit by another split, which would ultimately send it into history.

“As such, the LDK cannot be saved by a coalition with the LVV. It may prolong its suffering for some time, but not for very long. The only one with an interest in this coalition is Lumir Abdixhiku and his clan, which, it seems, wants to hold the LDK hostage. The membership of this party should not allow him to do such a thing,” analyst Haziri concluded for “Bota sot”.

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku reacted in strong terms after two of the party’s branch chairmen in Peja and Lipjan publicly called for his resignation, saying this was done improperly and outside the proper channels within the party.

Abdixhiku said he was surprised that, according to him, the “coordinated suggestions and requests” for his removal were made through the media, adding that, given their long-standing cooperation, the issue should have been raised “face to face.”

He acknowledged that the election result in Peja and Lipjan was not satisfactory, but argued that LDK’s decline in these municipalities, where the party has been in government, is, in his view, linked to “internal sabotage” and to projects that have nothing to do with LDK’s identity.

Below is his full reaction:

How were they never satisfied?!

I thank the two branch chairmen, from Peja and Lipjan, for their coordinated suggestions and requests made through the media for my resignation. It would have been more proper for them to say this directly. After all, we have worked together for a long time.

I admit that the result in these two branches is not good. The fact that in municipalities where we govern we came third, in my view, only proves the extent of deep sabotage and of a project that does not belong to LDK.

I addressed the issue of my resignation at the January 31 Assembly, in the presence of these two chairmen as well. For me, the membership has spoken clearly. But for the poor performance in these two branches, for the lowest result in years, I expect moral resignations from the two chairmen in question. I will accept them immediately.

I assure the broad LDK membership that we will not allow projects aimed at dividing LDK, pushed by deliberate saboteurs, to take shape. They failed on January 31, they failed in the elections, and they will fail now as well. Since then, despite obstacles and doubts, we have nevertheless grown in such a short time. Today, under no circumstances and at no cost, will we allow the will of the overwhelming majority of LDK to be distorted into projects aimed at dividing and then extinguishing LDK.

LDK, after all, is not a confederation of local interests. Nor is it a platform for individual careers. LDK remains a national party. The only one. Belonging to no one else, especially not to any other party.

I call on the majority of the membership to remain calm in these troubled times. We will overcome every challenge, as we always have.

I have only regret that at the most important moments for LDK and the country, harming us from within continues to remain an objective. Were they never satisfied?!
