The massive fire on Krujë Mountain has left considerable damage in its wake. Distressed residents recounted moments of terror, saying that what happened last night was a situation unlike anything they had ever seen before.

According to them, the damage was material, with olive trees and several warehouses burned. Fortunately, no one was injured, as the families were evacuated.

One resident said they kept the flames under control themselves, while the firefighters only extinguished the smaller hotspots when they arrived.

“It was truly terrifying. Within five minutes, the fire had surrounded the house. We took action and handled the situation ourselves. The firefighters arrived very late, after the fire had been put out. They only came to extinguish the small hotspots, because we kept the fire under control ourselves. It was a horror unlike anything we had ever seen. It was chaos; nothing like this had ever happened before. The road was blocked, so there was no way for the fire engine to get through. There are also two electrical substations here, and if they had exploded, it would have been a catastrophe,” a local resident said.

“The children were terrified. My children saved me. Only our souls know what it was like here last night. I left and went to my daughter’s house, while my two sons were surrounded by the flames. There was damage; only the houses were spared,” an elderly woman said.
