A 59-year-old Latvian citizen, identified by the initials R.S., was detained by police on August 17, 2026, at around 10:00 p.m. in the village of Bogorodica, near Gevgelija.

According to a statement from North Macedonia’s Ministry of Interior, officers from the Bogorodica Police Station for Border Surveillance and Border Checks detained him while inspecting a Fiat Tipo passenger vehicle with Skopje license plates, which he was driving.

Ten migrants from Egypt were found inside the vehicle. They were taken to the Vinojug Reception and Transit Center in Gevgelija, while R.S. was handed over to the Gevgelija Police Station.

The Interior Ministry said that once the case has been fully documented, appropriate charges will be filed against the 59-year-old.
