The water level in Lake Ulza has reached its minimum level, otherwise known as the “point of death.” The drastic decline is linked to the maximum exploitation of the water reserve for electricity generation by KURUM, as well as the reduced flow of the Mat River.

The drastic drop in the water level has also affected the aquatic ecosystem, due to the warming of the water, which some fish species cannot tolerate.

Off camera, local fishermen said that this situation has been repeated every year since the Ulëz and Shkopet hydroelectric power plants were privatized by the Turks.

They said that before the 1990s, the water level remained at its maximum even during the summer months, with the aim of preserving the fishing economy.

The water level in the basin has fallen as far as the village of Bushkash, while exploitation continues. The damage being caused affects not only fishing but also tourism, as this lake has historically been used not only by local residents but also by tourists for swimming and sunbathing.

Citizens will gather outside the Prime Minister’s Office again this afternoon as the anti-government protest enters its 61st day and continues its daily mobilization.

The initiative, which initially began in response to developments in Zvërnec, has now turned into a daily citizens’ movement.

For more than two months, protesters have taken to the streets of Tirana to oppose the government and what they describe as the political establishment.

Over the past 60 days, rallies and marches have been held along the capital’s main roads. Participants have repeatedly demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, free elections, and a change in the way the country is governed.

During the previous day’s rally, activists again said they would not back down. According to them, the two months of protests demonstrate citizens’ resilience, while the mobilization will continue until the stated objectives are achieved.

After gathering outside the Prime Minister’s Office, the protesters held their nightly march through the streets of Tirana. As they marched, they repeated the chants “Rama, go,” “Resign,” “A New Albania,” and “Revolution.”

The same format is expected to be followed today. The rally will begin outside the Prime Minister’s Office, where activists and citizens will speak, after which participants will march along several of the capital’s main roads.

Organizers have stressed that the protest will continue without interruption. They say citizens will take to the streets every day until their demands for the government’s removal and a change in the political class are met.
