Agriculture was hit hardest, with local residents reporting significant losses to their crops.

“There has been damage, but not everywhere to the same extent. My covers were torn and some plants were damaged. No one contacted us about this, you are the first to come,” said one of the farmers.

Another added: “The white covers on plantations have been completely destroyed, while their inner material has suffered damage. Also, the protected tobacco has been severely affected.”

“We haven’t received any help from anyone. We are left at God’s mercy. The state hasn’t supported us at all. We are forced to go on television to seek support from institutions,” complained another resident.

The mayor of Haračina Municipality, Daut Beqiri, stated to Alsat that immediate actions have been taken to stabilize the situation and assistance has been requested from the Ministry of Agriculture.

“The farmers reacted quickly and informed us about the damage to agricultural products. At dawn we contacted representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and considered the alternative of setting up a commission to assess the damage, so that we can assist the farmers,” Beqiri emphasized.

Although the storm lasted only a short time, its consequences were felt in several sectors of the municipality. Trees, roofs, protective metal sheets, and roads were damaged. By afternoon, the situation was normalized thanks to the intervention of teams. /Alsat.mk

Rain showers that swept through the Gjirokastër area last night created favorable conditions for extinguishing several fire outbreaks that were threatening homes.

The Fire and Rescue Service reported at 22:15 that three fire hotspots were identified in the village of Andon Poçi.

Two crews with firefighting vehicles were immediately dispatched to the area. Upon arriving at the scene, the crews found that one of the hotspots was located near an electrical cabin, while the other two were localized in the southern part of the village.

The flames near the electrical cabin grew large, and the deployed forces worked to isolate and extinguish it. The crews were also aided by the rain that fell in the area, successfully neutralizing all the hotspots. Two of the fires, including the one near the cabin, are suspected to have been ignited by electrical discharges.

Meanwhile, another hotspot was reported in the village of Hundëkuq. The firefighter crew that was dispatched there intervened quickly and brought the situation under control.

For the incident in Hundëkuq as well, initial suspicions point to a spark from an electrical installation. Fortunately, no other material damages or consequences for residents resulted from these two events.

Albania is experiencing the last days of the African heat wave, with temperatures reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius in some areas. But the situation is expected to change significantly this week, as a cool air mass from northern Europe will bring a drop in temperatures, rain and wind to most of the country.

In a live connection for Ora News, renowned meteorologist Lajda Porja announced that today remains under the influence of extreme temperatures, with high values mainly in the lowland and southern areas.

“Today we also expect a very hot day, we are still in the build-up of the African heat wave. Many cities in the western lowlands will record temperatures from 39 to 40 degrees, while 41 degrees are expected in the regions of Gjirokastra and Berat and up to 42 degrees in isolated areas of Elbasan,” said Porja.

According to the forecaster, the high temperatures are also accompanied by tropical nights, where in many cities the minimum values do not drop below 20 degrees. The mountainous and northeastern areas will be somewhat cooler, with temperatures around 33-36 degrees.

The significant weather change starts on Wednesday, when a cool air mass originating from northern Europe will penetrate towards the Balkans. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, from over 40 degrees to around 30 degrees by the weekend.

“On Wednesday, a very cool air mass originating from northern Europe will bring immediate cooling. From 41-42 degrees we have today, Friday will bring a maximum of no more than 30 degrees, so a drop of about 12 degrees,” she said.

In addition to the temperature drop, rain is also expected. Downpours will start during Tuesday night in the northern and northeastern areas, while on Wednesday and Thursday they will affect the central and mountainous areas, including the capital.

Friday is expected to be the most problematic, as heavy rainfall could cover the entire territory, also affecting coastal areas. Along with the rain, wind will be present starting from Tuesday evening.

The weekend will bring an improvement in the weather, with clear spells and passing clouds, but with much lower and more stable temperatures, which are not expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
