During an interview on the “News24 Weekend” program, former miner Qani Shino delivered sharp criticism of the political class and the living conditions of the elderly.

Shino described the situation of former miners in Albania as genuine persecution, highlighting the stark contrast between the funds spent on certain services and minimum pensions.

“We former miners are being persecuted in Albania today. To make a comparison, a stray dog has a tender worth 280 euros, while a retired miner does not receive 170 euros. This is the discrimination between us and stray dogs,” Shino declared in a harsh tone.

In addition to the financial hardship, he also highlighted the lack of social spaces for pensioners, as well as their long-running and unresolved struggle for recognition of their status.

“We have social problems. Albania has no center where senior citizens can gather. I also take part in protests, and I have been protesting for 37 years over miner status. Politics has massacred us: neither miner status nor a decent pension,” he said.
