Following the tense developments between PDK and LVV MPs in the Assembly building, LDK MP Armend Zemaj responded in a Facebook post.

Although he did not directly refer to today’s events, Zemaj said that the Vetëvendosje Movement was deliberately causing the institutional deadlock.

According to him, VV’s deliberate obstruction creates tensions, further damages Kosovo’s already fragile image, and deepens divisions within society.

Zemaj said Kosovo does not need such an outdated mindset. He stressed that the majority has a duty to convene the session and create the conditions for the formation of new institutions, while respecting the Constitution and the political will of the citizens.

The LDK MP added that political agreements cannot be reached through obstruction, pressure, or attempts to subjugate others, as democracy is based on dialogue, responsibility, and mutual respect.

In conclusion, Armend Zemaj stressed that those who choose to remain silent and accept this way of conducting politics are not acting in the interests of the LDK, much less Kosovo.

Albania expressed serious concern following a statement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who spoke about the possibility of diverting the flow of the Iber River and involving Serbian specialists and institutions in assessing this scenario.

Albania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, stressed in his response:

“The diversion of a river that is part of a transboundary river basin cannot be treated as an internal matter or a decision taken unilaterally, especially when its effects directly impact the land, ecosystem, water security, supply and livelihoods of the inhabitants of a neighboring country.”

He added that international water law establishes clear rules on this issue. The principles of equitable and reasonable use of waters crossing borders, the obligation to prevent, manage and reduce transboundary harm, as well as the need for cooperation, information exchange and consultations on measures with consequences beyond national territory, are now firmly established international norms. Hoxha recalled that Serbia has been a member of the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes since 2010, thereby accepting its mechanisms for resolving disputes as well.

Emphasizing Albania’s expectations, Minister Hoxha stressed that Belgrade must fully respect its international commitments and the spirit of good-neighborly relations.

In a post on the “X” platform, Hoxha stated that “any project or intervention that could alter the flow, quantity or purity of waters connected to Kosovo must be addressed transparently, based on scientific data, with a full assessment of the transboundary impact and following consultations with the affected party.”

He warned that water resources must not be turned into a means of political pressure or punishment against another state or population. Albania, he added, firmly supports Kosovo’s right to security, sustainable development and the protection of its water reserves. “We are deeply convinced, and expect, that such matters will be resolved through dialogue, cooperation and European standards, not through threats or unilateral interventions and actions,” Hoxha concluded.

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Arben Gashi has responded in a Facebook post, saying that the LDK will not be shaken by pressure or challenges, while recalling the principles on which the party was founded.

According to Gashi, the LDK cannot be stopped and is not afraid of either external pressure or difficulties that arise within the party. He stressed that the party’s strength does not come from power, but from the values that form its foundation.

In his response, the MP described democracy as the foundation of the LDK, freedom as its spirit, and political action as the mission it represents. According to him, the unwavering defense of the truth is the very reason for the party’s existence.

Gashi said that he is committed to, believes in, and stands for an LDK built on these principles.

He emphasized that his involvement in politics is not aimed at protecting temporary interests. On the contrary, he said his goal is to build a stronger, more democratic LDK that is more faithful to its ideals.

According to Gashi, only such an LDK is capable of leading Kosovo toward the future it deserves.

Concluding his post, he reiterated his continued commitment to the LDK and Kosovo.

Senior officials from Germany and the European Union condemned the position, calling it unacceptable and demanding her removal from office.

Michael Gahler, a German Member of the European Parliament from the European People’s Party (EPP), stressed that such statements cannot be ignored when they come from a minister of a country seeking EU membership.

“Such statements by a minister of a candidate country cannot be ignored: on July 11, Serbian Minister Paunovic said in a television interview that, if she had been in Milosevic’s position in 1998, she ‘would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo of Albanians.’”

“I expect her to be dismissed from office,” Gahler wrote on platform X.

Jasmina Hostert, a German Bundestag member for the Böblingen constituency, also reacted to the Serbian minister’s remarks. According to her, Paunovic’s statement constitutes a violation of human rights and international law.

“It is unacceptable. Anyone who justifies ethnic cleansing is mocking the victims of the Kosovo War and violating human rights and international law,” Hostert wrote.

She also called for Paunovic’s removal from office.

“There must be no place for such words in a democratic government; they harm peace in the Western Balkans. The minister must resign,” the German lawmaker stated.

Adis Ahmetovic, a Bundestag member for Northern Hanover, also responded.

“The countries of the Western Balkans belong in the European Union. This includes Serbia. But a spirit of nationalism and hatred emanating from certain governments has no place in our European community of values,” Ahmetovic wrote.

According to him, Belgrade should respond to the matter by immediately dismissing Paunovic.

The European Commission also issued a statement. Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said she could not imagine Paunovic remaining a minister after such “terrible” statements.

Meanwhile, Kosovo’s institutions have declared Snezhana Paunovic persona non grata.

In his message, he emphasized the need for “will and patience,” while expressing gratitude to the heads of branches, sub-branches, and LDK activists for the support they gave him tonight.

“Your supportive messages, public and private, are more than I and the LDK could ask for. All of us are merely passersby in a far nobler mission; but when we do not walk the road alone, we truly feel more human,” Abdixhiku wrote.

He said that difficulties and the sense of injustice in politics are part of the journey, stressing that it is precisely such moments that “test character,” both of individuals and of the political organization itself.

“I invite you to be patient,” Abdixhiku wrote, as he urged that the situation not turn into internal division, but be faced with calm and political responsibility.

This reaction comes after demands from some LDK structures for accountability and changes in the leadership, following the latest election results.
