During a meeting with around 70 political and civil society representatives from Preševo, Bujanoc, Medvegjë and Sandžak, Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that Albanians in the Valley are facing violations of their human rights.

The discussions focused on current developments and the difficulties affecting Albanians in Preševo, Medvegjë, Bujanoc and Sandžak, as well as the need to strengthen cooperation and provide ongoing institutional and social support.

Kurti stated that the Republic of Kosovo would support the citizens of the Valley through various forms of assistance, including support for students, children and other groups.

He also stressed that Kosovo is raising the issue of the rights and interests of Albanians in the Preševo Valley on the international stage.

Ramzan Bekteshi, an Albanian activist in the United States, has opposed the decision to open a Serbian consulate in Shkodër. In his response, he accused Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama of prioritizing Serbia at Kosovo’s expense.

Bekteshi says Rama has not shown the same commitment to establishing a Kosovo consulate in the Preševo Valley. According to him, this is another example of disregard for the interests of Kosovo and the Albanians living in the Valley, “Bota Sot” reports.

In his post, the activist described the development as “the latest act of disregard” and raised questions about the expedited procedure for opening the Serbian consulate in Shkodër. He claims that, among other things, the mission will arrange marriages between Albanian women and impoverished Serbs.

Bekteshi asks why Rama did not have the courage to ask Vučić to allow Kosovo’s legitimate consulate to open in the Preševo Valley, while accusing the Albanian prime minister of usurping the role of the state of Kosovo.

He says Rama is acting zealously in Serbia’s favor but is forgetting that Kosovo is a sovereign state. Bekteshi also claims that the head of the Albanian government has never sought national and human rights for the Valley to the same extent that he has sought them for Serbs in the north.

In conclusion, he states that under Rama’s government, Kosovo is being deliberately ignored while Serbia is benefiting. Bekteshi stresses that the consulate in the Preševo Valley should belong to the sovereign state of Kosovo.
