The Customs Administration announced that the highest monthly revenues ever recorded were collected in July, totaling 14.14 billion denars. Compared with the same month last year, this represents an increase of 1.5 billion denars, or 11.8%.

According to Customs Administration Director Boban Nikollovski, the results show that the system built over the past two years is strengthening the state’s capacity to secure greater revenues.

Nikollovski stressed that breaking historical collection records for the fourth time in the past two years should not be viewed solely through the recorded figures. According to him, more important is the trend that has been established, demonstrating the system’s efficiency.

According to the Customs Administration, the increase in revenues during July was mainly influenced by increased supplies of equipment from the Ministry of Defense, higher imports of oil and its derivatives, and increased imports of tobacco and tobacco products.

During the January–July 2026 period, revenues collected by the Customs Administration reached 80.5 billion denars, or around 1.3 billion euros. This amount is 87.6 million euros higher than the figure recorded during the same period last year.

At the Tabanoc border crossing, customs officers stopped an attempt to smuggle 348 grams of gold jewelry, valued at 1.3 million denars, into the country.

The jewelry was discovered during a detailed search of a vehicle carrying a couple who are citizens of North Macedonia and reside in Belgium. A total of 26 pieces of gold jewelry were found in the female passenger’s bag.

The Investigation Department within the Control and Investigation Sector filed criminal charges against the passenger for “smuggling,” an offense punishable under the Criminal Code.

Since the beginning of this year, 13 cases of gold smuggling have been recorded, with more than 2.5 kilograms of gold jewelry and coins seized.
