The Law Commission meeting was marked by heated debate following a statement by MP Olsi Komici, who referred to several Democratic colleagues as “five bald-headed democrats.”

The conflict began during a discussion about the use of mobile phones to record the meeting. Komici’s statement prompted an immediate reaction from an MP, while fellow MPs Gent Strazimiri and Gjin Gjoni also became involved in the verbal clash.

The MP told Komici he should be ashamed of his words and stressed that no one could exclude her from the meeting, least of all him.

Olsi Komici: Five bald-headed democrats.

The MP: Who are you calling bald? You should be ashamed that you are an MP. You should be ashamed.

Olsi Komici: You should be ashamed because you take out your phone and record during the meeting, as you are doing with your phone right now.

The MP: You should be ashamed. Chair, are you listening to the language he uses when he calls MPs “bald-headed”? No one can throw me out, let alone you.

Olsi Komici: You walk in with your phone in your hand and record.

Gjin Gjoni: Where is the problem? That is your attitude.

Olsi Komici: This is contemptible behaviour.

Ulsi Manja: Mr Komici, please. Can you let me chair the meeting? Let us return to normal proceedings. Mr Gjoni, I do not need a lawyer.

Gjin Gjoni: Are you going to chair the session? Parliament has begun.

Ulsi Manja: If you have somewhere else to be for the session, you may leave. Madam MP, the meeting is public and you have the right to record everything, but this is not ethical conduct. Our vote is public, and the vote is also taken openly. You are an MP of Albania, and there are certain rules of coexistence in the commission, regardless of the political party you represent.

Gent Strazimiri: There is no ethical problem with someone keeping their phone on and recording. The ethical issue is that the MP opposite me used the expression “five bald-headed democrats.” He should immediately apologise publicly for this. We are all here, and she can point the phone wherever she wants; if that bothers you, I will take responsibility. You are not allowed to address a woman in this way. A man who points his phone at a woman to provoke her is engaging in provocative behaviour, while a woman who records the vote is doing nothing wrong.

Olsi Komici: For my statement, I offer my apology only to Mr Mehdi Leka, who is my compatriot, because I do not know the others, apart from a few individuals who have some patrols and do not know what they represent. I am a worthy man and I have the courage to represent each of those who voted for me.
