In an interview with Euractiv, Koçeku, who left the Socialist Party last month, said she could no longer remain in a political force that is pursuing policies that harm the environment.

“I could no longer belong to a group that not only does not support the environment, but drafts policies that damage it. I have also supported initiatives by opposition colleagues, because I consider this my civic right,” she said.

The protests, which have lasted for more than a month, oppose luxury tourism projects planned near the protected Vjosa-Narta area, including investments linked to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.

The movement has been dubbed by protesters the “Flamingo Revolution,” a reference to the flamingos that live in this ecosystem.

According to Koçeku, the protests reflect a deep crisis of trust in institutions and the political class.

“There is no longer any legitimacy, neither for the government nor for the traditional opposition. Both have shown that they work only for the interests of a small group,” she said.

For his part, Prime Minister Rama has described the protests as “digital hysteria” and an “imaginary revolution,” accusing opponents and online activists of exaggerating the situation.

Koçeku rejects this stance, saying the government is trying to create the impression that the protests are harming the European integration process.

“He is using the media to create the belief that, if we protest, we are undermining the integration process and the confidence of the European Union. Our politicians have completely lost touch with reality,” the MP said.

She called on the European Union to build a more direct relationship with Albanian citizens and not only with the government.

“European integration should not be just a bureaucratic process. The EU must create direct links with people, because they are the ones who know whether reforms are felt in daily life or not,” Koçeku said.

The MP, who entered parliament at the age of 24, stressed that the younger generation has a more European political culture than the current political elite.

“The younger generation is far more politically cultured and far more European than the political elite. This is the Albania I want Brussels to see,” she said, adding: “We believe in European values. But we are not supporting our prime minister and our government.”

Në një intervistë për Euractiv, Koçeku, e cila u largua muajin e kaluar nga Partia Socialiste, deklaroi se nuk mund të qëndronte më në një forcë politike që po ndjek politika që dëmtojnë mjedisin.

“Nuk mund t’i përkisja më një grupi që jo vetëm nuk e mbështet mjedisin, por harton politika që e dëmtojnë atë. Kam mbështetur edhe nismat e kolegëve të opozitës, sepse e konsideroj këtë si të drejtën time qytetare”, u shpreh ajo.

Protestat, që kanë zgjatur prej më shumë se një muaji, kundërshtojnë projektet luksoze turistike të planifikuara pranë zonës së mbrojtur Vjosa-Nartë, përfshirë edhe investime të lidhura me Jared Kushner, dhëndrin e presidentit amerikan Donald Trump.

Lëvizja është pagëzuar nga protestuesit si “Revolucioni i Flamingove”, në referencë ndaj flamingove që jetojnë në këtë ekosistem.

Sipas Koçekut, protestat pasqyrojnë një krizë të thellë besimi ndaj institucioneve dhe klasës politike.

“Nuk ka më legjitimitet, as për qeverinë dhe as për opozitën tradicionale. Të dyja kanë treguar se punojnë vetëm për interesa të një grupi të vogël”, tha ajo.

Nga ana tjetër, kryeministri Rama i ka cilësuar protestat si një “histeri digjitale” dhe një “revolucion imagjinar”, duke akuzuar kundërshtarët dhe aktivistët online për fryrje të situatës.

Koçeku kundërshton këtë qëndrim, duke thënë se qeveria po përpiqet të krijojë përshtypjen se protestat dëmtojnë procesin e integrimit europian.

“Ai po përdor median për të krijuar bindjen se, nëse protestojmë, po minojmë procesin e integrimit dhe besimin e Bashkimit Evropian. Politikanët tanë e kanë humbur plotësisht kontaktin me realitetin”, deklaroi deputetja.

Ajo i kërkoi Bashkimit Evropian, të ndërtojë një marrëdhënie më të drejtpërdrejtë me qytetarët shqiptarë dhe jo vetëm me qeverinë.

“Integrimi evropian nuk duhet të jetë vetëm një proces burokratik. BE-ja duhet të krijojë lidhje të drejtpërdrejta me njerëzit, sepse janë ata që e dinë nëse reformat ndihen apo jo në jetën e përditshme”, tha Koçeku.

Deputetja, e cila hyri në Kuvend në moshën 24-vjeçare , theksoi se brezi i ri ka një kulturë politike më evropiane sesa elita aktuale politike.

“Brezi i ri është shumë më i kulturuar politikisht dhe shumë më evropian se elita politike. Kjo është Shqipëria që unë dua të shohë Brukseli”, tha ai duke shtuar se, “Ne besojmë në vlerat evropiane. Por nuk po e mbështesim kryeministrin dhe qeverinë tonë”.
