Vlora Çitaku, an MP from the PDK, has called for the Specialist Chambers’ judgment against the former KLA leaders to be made public in full and without any redactions.

In a post, she emphasized that the public should have full access to the decision on the basis of which Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi were convicted.

According to Çitaku, liberators cannot be convicted in the name of the people, only for the judgment that led to their conviction not to be published in full and without alterations.

“In full. Every last word,” the PDK MP wrote.

She also called for citizens to be granted access to every fact and piece of evidence on which the Specialist Chambers based its decision.

Çitaku said that the people must see the “facts” and “evidence” on which such a decision against four men was based—men who, as she put it, happen to still be alive, given that when they put on the uniform bearing the three golden letters, death was closer to them than the shirts on their backs.

“Publish it in full. Without redactions,” Çitaku reiterated.

Alliance MP Bekë Berisha joined the protest held outside the government building against the Specialist Chambers’ guilty verdict against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

He said he had been convinced that Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi would be released by the Specialist Chambers.

“I expected them to be released. I was convinced they would be released, and I thought they wouldn’t even convict our allies, our liberators. This is unprecedented and has never happened anywhere,” Berisha said.

According to the MP, the verdict has highlighted that the KLA is not serving as a unifying factor for the citizens of Kosovo, but is creating a divide between those with patriotic feelings and others who, as he put it, do not share those feelings.

“Many are saying that the KLA unites us, but it can be seen that the KLA is dividing us into patriotic people and others who do not share these feelings,” he added.

Following the AfD’s victory in Germany, MP Tobias Teich spoke about the party’s position on immigration and the possibility that Albanians could be affected by these policies. According to him, the largest influx of immigrants is not linked to Albania.

Teich singled out Syria and African countries as the regions from which the highest numbers of immigrants arrive and which are considered more problematic. He also spoke about his contacts with the Kosovo Albanian and Albanian communities, as well as how he became familiar with the history of Kosovo and Albania.

The MP said that Germany spent 12 billion euros in 2024 on issues related to asylum seekers. He stressed that people who arrive from other countries, integrate into German society, respect the country’s culture and system, are welcome and do not pose a problem.

He emphasized that the discussion is not only about Albanians, recalling that during the 1990s Germany welcomed a large number of refugees from Kosovo. Teich said he was born in 1984 and belongs to a generation that witnessed many people arriving in Germany to escape conflicts and find safety.

According to him, contact with young people from Kosovo helped him learn about its history, while later he also became familiar with Albania. Teich said he had developed a positive view of the Albanian community in Germany, particularly when the issue is examined through statistical data on crime.

“We do not have problems with people who have come from Albania. The largest number of immigrants come from countries such as Syria and African states, not Albania,” he said.

Teich clarified that this was his personal assessment and that he could not necessarily speak on behalf of the entire party. Nevertheless, he reiterated that he has a positive opinion of Albania. The statements were made on the program “Review,” hosted by Greta Topjana on Euronews Albania.

Vetëvendosje MP Mefail Bajqinovci said that MPs from his party did not vote for the LDK and PDK candidates for the positions of deputy speakers of Parliament. According to him, Vetëvendosje’s aim is to establish all the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, not to send the country to elections.

Bajqinovci said that the opposition’s positions, including the statement by LDK MP Avdullah Hoti that Parliament should be constituted and Kosovo should then go to elections, show that there is a demand to activate the 60-day deadline leading to new elections.

He stressed that Vetëvendosje does not want the process to end with elections, but aims to fully operationalize the institutions. Bajqinovci also mentioned candidate Kujtim Shala, who, after reaching an agreement with Vetëvendosje, appeared publicly with his group of six MPs and, according to him, obstructed the election of the president while openly calling for the country to go to elections.

Speaking about the failure to vote for Vlora Çitaku as a deputy speaker from the PDK, Bajqinovci linked the issue to developments the previous day. He said that the PDK had not voted for Albulena Haxhiu, was not supporting the election of the president or the speaker of Parliament, while at the same time asking Vetëvendosje MPs to vote for the deputy speakers.

According to Bajqinovci, this approach is the opposite of the goal of establishing the institutions, since the same MPs who are seeking votes for the deputy speakers also want Kosovo to go to elections.

The Vetëvendosje MP also said that the six LDK MPs who are opposing Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president should return and vote for him so that the country does not end up in elections.

Analyst Agim Vuniqi has analyzed the latest political developments in Kosovo, focusing in particular on tensions within the Democratic League of Kosovo.

In a statement to “Bota sot,” he said that the current crisis in the party stems from a clash between its leader, Lumir Abdixhiku, and a group of six lawmakers who refused to support the agreed candidate, Bekim Sejdiu.

According to Vuniqi, Abdixhiku has shown a willingness to compromise in order to overcome the institutional deadlock, but the greatest challenge now comes from divisions within the LDK parliamentary group.

“This represents one of the deepest internal and institutional crises in LDK’s recent history. It highlights the conflict between the authority of the chairman, respect for party discipline and the principles of internal democracy. The open opposition of six MPs — Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri — to the consensus candidate Bekim Sejdiu, despite the fact that the Presidency had approved him unanimously, brings several fundamental issues to the fore,” he said.

Abdixhiku Cleared of Accusations over the Deadlock

Vuniqi noted that this development clearly shows that Lumir Abdixhiku has taken major compromising steps to resolve Kosovo’s institutional deadlock, giving up any government post and his claim to lead the Presidency as the party’s representative. His agreement with Albin Kurti on a non-partisan candidate presents him as a leader seeking to build. According to him, the fact that the obstacle came from within the parliamentary group proves that the real problem in forming institutions after two consecutive election cycles (2025 and 2026) was not the party leadership, but the internal faction of these six MPs.

He added that the group’s continued opposition to party decisions is undermining the authority of the Presidency and Abdixhiku himself. The rejection of the agreement, he said, could shift responsibility for the failure from Vetëvendosje to the LDK, and in the event of new elections, this would give Vetëvendosje a political advantage.

The Contradiction of MPs Challenging the Party and the Call for a “General Council”

In parliamentary theory and practice, voting against the official party line is a recognized practice, but when this opposition becomes permanent and blocks decisions vital to the state, a legitimate question arises: why run under the logo of a political force if the will of the majority within it is not respected? This group’s insistence on convening the General Council for every operational step directly undermines the role of the Presidency and the Chairman.

Under the standards of a modern party, if the Chairman has demonstrated the ability to survive internal challenges and no-confidence votes (as happened at the Extraordinary Assembly in July 2026, where he reaffirmed his legitimacy), then decisions by the executive structures should be binding on the entire parliamentary group.

Clearing VV of Blame and the Threat of New Elections

“Strategically, by rejecting this agreement, this group of MPs is shifting the burden of responsibility for the failure of the process from Vetëvendosje — which has had its own delays and political maneuvering in this process — to the LDK itself. If new elections are held (the fourth in less than two years), the opposition will once again bear the cost of the crisis and citizens’ fatigue, giving VV a powerful electoral weapon with which to blame the ‘saboteurs’ within the LDK,” he explained.

In the end, Vuniqi sees the LDK facing a critical decision: either continue with its internal divisions or implement reforms and strengthen party discipline.

He stressed that in the event of snap elections, these six MPs should face the full weight of their real political support, outside the umbrella of the LDK list.

The Fate of the Rebel Group and the Need to Clean Up the Lists

“Abdixhiku’s ultimatum for these six MPs to surrender their mandates shows that political patience has run out. In established Western democracies, MPs who openly challenge essential decisions by the leadership structures are expelled or are no longer given space on future election lists. If the country goes to early elections, the only way to preserve the LDK’s cohesion is:

Either to exclude them from the party’s official lists, preventing them from benefiting from votes under the emblem they themselves oppose.

Or to force them to run as an independent list or a new political entity, so that they can measure their true support among the LDK’s traditional electorate.

This situation shows that the LDK is at a crossroads where it must choose between maintaining a ‘fictitious unity’ that holds the party hostage, or undergoing painful reform by imposing strict party discipline, to ensure that majority decisions are absolute,” he concluded.

Analyst Ilir Deda has commented on the stance of the six LDK MPs who did not support the agreement with LVV.

According to Deda, the MPs should have made it clear from the outset of the negotiations that they would not vote for any possible agreement between the two parties.

He believes they should also have publicly presented their reasoning for holding new elections, describing them as primarily responsible for returning the country to parliamentary elections.

From the beginning of the talks between LDK and LVV, the six LDK MPs should have declared that they would not support any agreement between the two parties.

They could also have explained that they were determined for Kosovo to go to parliamentary elections again, while maintaining a consistent stance against the current government.

As institutionalists, they should have made their signatures available for a request to the Constitutional Court concerning the violation of the constitutional deadline for the constitution of the Assembly.

Meanwhile, three MPs from this group should have explained why the decisions of their party’s leadership in 2016 were binding on them, while the leadership’s decisions in 2026 are not considered binding.

Alliance MP Besnik Tahiri has accused the parliamentary majority of plunging Kosovo into a deep social, economic and political depression by failing to constitute Parliament and fulfill its constitutional duty.

According to Tahiri, the situation in the country is worsening and approaching a critical point that affects not only political functioning, but also security in society and the economy, including job creation and keeping the state functioning. He described this as an unprecedented political crisis in the history of Kosovo’s democracy.

Tahiri said this approach was not accidental, but deliberate, and aimed to lead Kosovo toward an identity crisis. He stated that this political constellation had been on the opposite side of history during the Rambouillet Agreement, NATO’s entry into Kosovo and the declaration of Kosovo’s independence.

The Alliance MP added that, in his view, there was an attempt to construct a false narrative contrary to the historic efforts of the Albanian nation in Kosovo to create a different identity. He stressed that such an attempt would not be allowed.

“We have no other place, no other state and no greater national achievement than Kosovo’s independence. This independence is the greatest achievement of the Albanian nation. Generation after generation has sacrificed for it, and we have an obligation to be here at our workplace and defend our greatest national achievement,” Tahiri said.

Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, has strongly advocated for Ukraine to recognize Kosovo as an independent state. He revealed that he has also sponsored a bill in his country’s parliament related to the issue.

In an interview with KosovaPress, Goncharenko spoke about President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement in Serbia, where the Ukrainian head of state said that Kyiv’s policy toward Kosovo had not changed.

The MP emphasized that, unfortunately, Zelensky holds a different position from his own regarding Kosovo’s recognition. According to him, the circumstances for Ukraine are currently highly complicated because of the war, and it would have been more appropriate for recognition to have taken place before the start of the full-scale invasion. He explained that every decision Ukraine makes now is also assessed based on the impact it could have on the country’s extremely difficult situation.

Goncharenko praised Kosovo and its citizens for their support of Ukraine. He said that Ukrainians and the people of Kosovo are able to understand each other because of the tragic experiences they have gone through.

He recalled that Kosovo has sheltered Ukrainian refugees and that its citizens have stood by Ukraine. According to the MP, unfortunately, Ukrainians and the people of Kosovo know better than anyone else in Europe what genocide means, as Kosovo experienced it earlier, while Ukraine is facing it now.

According to Goncharenko, the threat Russia poses to Ukraine is the same as the destabilizing influence it exerts in the Balkans. He said Moscow aims to ignite the region by exploiting certain marginal Serbian groups.

The Ukrainian MP said that their recent and tragic history has given Ukraine and Kosovo much in common. For this reason, he said, the two countries should build a very serious partnership.

However, Goncharenko said that Ukraine must hold talks with everyone, including Serbia and the Serbian president. At the same time, he criticized Belgrade’s close relations with Moscow, describing Serbia as perhaps the country currently closest to Russia in Europe.

He called this closeness a major mistake by Serbia, although he acknowledged that it was its choice. Goncharenko expressed hope that one day Serbia would change course, abandon its imperialist mindset and understand that it must build a new Serbia as a state, not a Balkan empire. Nevertheless, he said that many Serbs, unfortunately, do not currently share this view.

Goncharenko also addressed Mayor Rama’s decision to remove the Ukrainian flag from a public space in Pristina following Zelensky’s statement. The MP considered the move to be wrong.

According to him, the flag represented an important message of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and was not an expression of personal support for Zelensky. He stressed that Zelensky is president today, while someone else will hold the post tomorrow, but Ukrainian citizens are fighting not only for their own freedom—they are actually defending all of Europe, including the Balkans.

Goncharenko said he understood the aim of the mayor of Pristina in reacting to the Ukrainian president’s statement, but repeated that the issue was not about the president, but about the people of Ukraine. For this reason, he said, removing the flag was a wrong decision.

A few days earlier, during his visit to Belgrade, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had declared that Ukraine’s position toward Kosovo remained unchanged. At the same time, he thanked Serbia for its position regarding Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

At a news conference in Belgrade, where he appeared alongside Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Zelensky said that Ukraine respects the territorial integrity of its partners and international law. He emphasized that its position on Kosovo had not changed and expressed gratitude to Serbia for respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea.
