The Ministry of Transport has announced that four entities submitted bids in the public tender for the purchase of 150 electric buses and 75 charging stations.

Following a review by the relevant commission, only two economic operators were found to meet the qualification requirements. Specifically, Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd and YES‑EU DENMARK A/S YUTONG failed to meet the conditions for participation.

In the electronic auction held today, the lowest bid was submitted by the consortium comprising IKARUS Electric Zrt and EVN. The Ministry explained:

“During the evaluation phase, the Public Procurement Commission determined that, of the four bids submitted, two companies met the requirements to proceed to the electronic auction in accordance with the criteria set out in the call: BMC Otomotiv Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and the consortium of IKARUS Electric Zrt and EVN. Based on the auction results, the most favorable bid was submitted by IKARUS Electric Zrt together with EVN, for a total of 3.120.956.004 denars excluding VAT. This amounts to 19.796.924 denars excluding VAT for each bus and 2.018.899 denars excluding VAT for each charging station.”

The responsible commission has now formally recommended the winner, and the statutory 10-day period for filing appeals has begun.

The Ministry also detailed the delivery schedule for the vehicles and the accompanying infrastructure:

“Once the contract enters into force, the winner must fulfill the order according to the following schedule: 30 electric buses and 15 charging stations must be delivered within the first 6 months; followed by 60 buses and 30 charging stations within 12 months; and the final batch of 60 buses and 30 charging stations within 18 months of the signing date.”

In conclusion, the Ministry of Transport emphasized that the entire procedure is being conducted in full compliance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Law and the principles of transparency.

According to them, the 1 million euro investment places North Macedonia among the countries applying the most advanced technologies in this sector, while it is the first system of its kind in the Balkans.

VLEN underlines that the development is not limited only to technological modernization. Over the past two years, 28 new air destinations have been opened, while for this year the number of passengers is expected to exceed 3.5 million. According to the party, these figures show that the new policies are consolidating the country’s position as an increasingly important air transport hub in the region.

In conclusion to its reaction, the party says that governance should be measured by results and not by rhetoric. It adds that every investment that increases safety, improves services, and expands opportunities for citizens is part of the vision for a modern, developed North Macedonia that is more connected to Europe and the world.
