On Wednesday, September 2, the official presentation of the “Urban Train” initiative will take place, the Ministry of Transport announced. Starting tomorrow, the urban train will begin operating on the first of the three planned routes, serving the following stations: Zelenikovo, New Zelenikovo, Oreshan, Jane Sandanski, Dračevo, Lisiche and the New Railway Station in Skopje.

Prime Minister Hristian Mickoski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolloski, director of the Public Enterprise Railways Infrastructure Sinisha Ivanovski, director of Railways Transport Dejan Koshutiq, and Mayor of the City of Skopje Orce Georgievski are expected to attend the ceremony. The mayors of the municipalities of Zelenikovo, Kosta Manevski, Kisela Voda, Beti Stamenkovska Trajkova, and Aerodrom, Dejan Mitevski, will also take part.

To symbolically mark the launch of the project, those present will travel by train from Zelenikovo railway station to the New Railway Station in Skopje.

For the purposes of this initiative, Railways Infrastructure has carried out a complete reconstruction of the railway line, with the aim of improving the standards and increasing the speed capacity on this route.

Transport services on the Zelenikovo–Skopje Railway Station segment will be provided by three trains, according to a precisely निर्धारित schedule confirmed by Railways Transport.

The “Urban Train” project represents a vision of this government, aimed at providing Skopje residents, both from the outlying areas and the city center, with faster, more efficient and more accessible urban public transport. The objective is to connect the capital’s outskirts with the city’s central core, resulting in lower travel costs, shorter travel times, reduced waiting periods and faster public service. A particularly important aspect is the integration of the “Urban Train” with the NQP transport system, thereby creating high-quality, unified and efficient public transport for citizens, students and schoolchildren.

The Ministry of Transport emphasized that work is also continuing on the design of the second and third Urban Train lines. The second line will run from the New Railway Station through Butel and North Skopje to Gjorče Petrov, while the third will connect the New Railway Station with Autokomanda, Madžari and “Ilinden.”

Minister of Transport and Communications Aleksandar Nikolloski announced that work on the Kërçovë–Ohër highway is progressing at an accelerated pace. He confirmed that two galleries have already been finalized, while intensive work continues on a third. Within a few months, a new 10-kilometer segment will be open to vehicles, precisely the most complex part of the entire project, which includes numerous tunnels and galleries.

Nikolloski described the construction of eight galleries still in progress as a true engineering test. At the same time, teams are working on ground consolidation, finalizing bridges, and completing both tunnel tubes. According to the minister, this section of the road will become functional and be handed over to traffic in a few months.

“The data is extremely impressive. The three galleries behind me reach a total length of 1.1 kilometers, while the tunnels will be the longest in all of Macedonia – one tube is 2 kilometers and the other 2.1 kilometers. This is the first time that galleries of this nature have been built not just here, but in the entire region,” Nikolloski stated.

He assessed that the galleries represented the most suitable alternative for stabilizing the soil and that on-site implementation is confirming their effectiveness. The Deputy Prime Minister signaled that new segments will be put into operation without delay.

“This was the most rational choice and the best way to secure the terrain. To preserve the road alignment and guarantee safe travel, these engineering structures we see today were the optimal response. This is a previously abandoned project, one no one had hope for, but now the end is in sight. We currently have 34 kilometers open to traffic, and in the coming months, we will add another 10 kilometers, the most difficult part containing the tunnels and galleries,” Nikolloski declared.
