The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources is continuously monitoring regional and European developments, as well as hydrological indicators across the country. According to the official statement, the situation in North Macedonia is currently stable, and there are no signs that falling water levels across the continent pose a threat to the security of domestic energy production.

Together with AD ESM, AD MEPSO and other responsible institutions, the Ministry is systematically monitoring hydrological parameters, existing reserves and relevant forecasts to ensure a timely response with appropriate measures if circumstances change.

Reservoir levels are currently stable, ensuring reliable management of the country’s water resources. Their overall fill level stands at around 70 percent, which is sufficient to meet current demand in line with production plans. Careful management in accordance with operational plans guarantees a secure electricity supply and the stable operation of the power grid. At the same time, hydropower plants continue to provide essential system services for maintaining the stability of the energy infrastructure.

Domestic production data are showing positive signs. Official statistics indicate that North Macedonia generated 462.653 MWh of electricity in May, covering 96.5 percent of domestic consumption needs, an indication of the significantly stronger contribution made by domestic production. AD ESM also reported a substantial 76 percent increase in hydropower generation compared with the same period last year, while wind power plants recorded growth of around 10 percent.

These figures demonstrate that diversifying the range of generation sources, managing water reserves rationally and improving planning processes are increasing the energy sector’s resilience to frequent climate-related challenges.

At the same time, investments are being made in new renewable energy capacity, improvements to the power grid, battery storage systems and initiatives aimed at increasing the system’s flexibility and ability to adapt to climate and market fluctuations.

The second phase of the “Bogdanci” wind farm is currently under construction and will increase its installed capacity to 50 MW. Work has also begun on the “Bitola 1” and “Oslomej 2” photovoltaic power plants, while the “Bitola 2” and “Bitola 3” projects are at an advanced stage of preparation. Meanwhile, the groundwork is being laid for the broader deployment of electricity storage systems, which will enable more efficient use of renewable resources and greater system stability, the Ministry said.

The Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Mineral Resources has opened a public call to allocate subsidies aimed at supporting households to connect to the natural gas network and to equip themselves with gas boilers. Through this scheme, families can receive financial assistance of up to 30,000 denars, or covering up to 70 percent of the documented costs.

According to the announcement, interested parties have until October 31, 2026, to submit their applications, thus being offered a broad timeframe to benefit from this opportunity.

The Ministry emphasizes that through this initiative, the state aims not only to ease the financial burden of investment for citizens, but also to promote energy efficiency, encourage a cleaner energy source, and improve the quality of the environment we live in. The support is directed at those households that will complete the connection of their residence to the natural gas distribution system during 2026, as well as those that will purchase a gas boiler for a building already connected to this network before January 1, 2026. Each family is entitled to submit only one application.

For the implementation of this measure, 3 million denars have been secured, and the distribution of funds will be carried out in accordance with the rules clearly defined in the call. The principle applied will be “first come, first served,” and payments will continue until the allocated budget is exhausted.

After the deadline closes, a special commission established by the Ministry will evaluate all incoming applications. Subsequently, the corresponding amount will be transferred to all beneficiaries who meet the set criteria. The Ministry addresses citizens who plan to connect to gas or invest in a new boiler, inviting them to take advantage of this opportunity for state support and to submit the necessary documentation on time.
