During the Business Forum between Macedonia and India, the Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, presented an initiative for advancing the Central Population Register. According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this project seeks support from the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.

At an event attended by the President of India and President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, Andonovski described the project as an initial and promising step for expanding digital and economic cooperation between the two countries. “The goal is tangible and citizen-focused: transforming reliable and accurate information into better decision-making and quality public services. The Central Population Register already serves as a foundation for secure digital services and identity verification. By improving it, we will build an even more functional and interconnected system,” he emphasized.

The project plan aims to link key data from the civil registry, enhance its quality through the use of artificial intelligence, and develop analytical tools for evidence-based and data-driven policies. The application of these new technologies will be accompanied by institutional oversight and essential human control.

As a result of this initiative, faster and higher-quality services for individuals and businesses are expected, along with reduced bureaucratic barriers and improved targeting of public spending.

The minister also underscored the need to rethink the approach to information flow. “Businesses should not become intermediaries between institutions. It is data that should circulate, not citizens and companies. This is precisely where the importance of improving the Central Population Register lies, for building efficient, secure, and fully digital public services,” Andonovski concluded.
