According to the MFA, this appeal has been repeated continuously due to the frequent cases of detentions and arrests of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo by Serbian authorities.

The holiday season has significantly increased the number of emigrants traveling to Kosovo through Serbia. A few days ago, Serbian authorities arrested Osmam Selmani on Serbia’s suspicions of alleged war crimes in 1999.

Tens of thousands of our compatriots pass through this border crossing, while in recent years many incidents have also been recorded, mainly related to longer checks and questioning.

In the last two years alone, arrests have also been reported, most of which were linked to accusations of violating the constitutional order of the Republic of Serbia.

Lawyer Arianit Koci has also reacted to this issue, saying that caution should be shown when passing through Serbia.

The MFA stresses that, through the Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo in Serbia, it monitors and handles every case reported by citizens or their family members, while at the same time it has continuously informed the European Union delegation in Serbia and sent verbale notes to the diplomatic missions of the Quint countries accredited in Serbia.

According to the MFA, the Republic of Kosovo is not included in NATO Summits as a participating state, as it is not yet a member of the North Atlantic Alliance and at the same time is not part of the Partnership for Peace Program.

The ministry said that NATO Summits are held as meetings of the heads of state and government of the 32 member countries, while in certain cases the organization’s partners are also invited, depending on the summit’s agenda.

The response also states that several partner countries from the Indo-Pacific region, as well as Ukraine, have been invited to the upcoming summit, while Kosovo so far has not been part of the list of participating countries in this format.

The MFA also recalled that in the past, Kosovo’s representation in activities related to the NATO Summit has taken place only within the framework of side events organized by international partners, and not in the work of the summit itself.

In conclusion, the ministry reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to deepening cooperation with NATO and to advancing its strategic objective of full membership in the Alliance.
