Another threatening message targeting Kosovo has emerged from Serbia, this time in the form of graffiti reading “When the army returns to Kosovo,” painted in Perućac, in the Bajina Bašta area. The inscription was painted in large letters and in the colors of the Serbian flag on a wall along the road to Mitrovac on Tara.

According to Serbian media, the graffiti appeared on August 9, the same day Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić issued threats against Kosovo involving one of its most strategic water resources, Ujman Lake, mentioning “changing the course of the Iber River.”

On Sunday, Vučić said Serbia was engaging construction and engineering experts to examine the possibility of diverting the course of the Iber, linking this to what he falsely described as the “mistreatment of the Serbian people.” “Since they are mistreating our people so much, let us see—we have various reasons for changing the course of the Iber, and then we will see what the Albanians will do and how they will behave,” Vučić said, attempting to present a distorted picture of the situation in Kosovo.

Graffiti bearing the message “When the army returns to Kosovo” is not new. For years, such messages have appeared in various locations across Serbia, including Belgrade. In 2023, they were painted on the fence surrounding the Serbian Army General Staff building and in several other parts of the Serbian capital. These inscriptions have also occasionally appeared in northern Kosovo.

Crvena Zvezda’s best-known supporters’ group has claimed responsibility for most of the graffiti, saying it financed the work itself, and added that the first example of this kind was created by Partizan supporters.

A symbolic ceremony accompanied by the American anthem was held on Saturday at the “Prof. Dr. Bedri Kamberi” Mosque in Pristina, where the flag of the United States of America was raised on a pole as part of the marking of the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence. The act was organized for the fourth year in a row as a sign of gratitude for the historic support America has given to Kosovo.

The event began with the playing of the U.S. anthem, after which the American flag was raised by the imam of the “Prof. Dr. Bedri Kamberi” Mosque, Labinot Maliqi. According to him, placing this flag in the mosque’s courtyard has now become a tradition and represents the gratitude of the people of Kosovo toward the United States of America.

Maliqi: Raising the American flag in the mosque courtyard is a sincere expression of gratitude

“Today is a special day. For the fourth year in a row, in the courtyard of this mosque, we are raising the flag of the United States of America on a pole to mark its Independence Day. This is not merely a ceremonial act, it is a protocol gesture, it is a sincere expression of gratitude. Today America celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence. A historic jubilee that reminds us of the birth of a state built on a great principle: that man has dignity, that freedom is sacred, and that fundamental rights do not stem from the power of men, but from the Great Creator,” Maliqi said.

Maliqi pointed out that freedom of religion and conscience is among the fundamental pillars on which the United States was built, adding that the people of Kosovo know better than anyone the weight of freedom and the importance of a sincere ally.

Maliqi: One of the most precious values on which America was built is freedom of religion

“One of the most precious values on which America was built is freedom of religion and conscience. Its founders understood that faith cannot be imposed by force and that a person must be free to seek the truth through conviction, reason and conscience. As a people who have experienced war, injustice and the absence of freedom, we know better than anyone how precious freedom is and how much a true friend is worth in the most difficult days,” he said.

At the close of the ceremony, he stressed that raising the American flag on the mosque’s pole constitutes clear evidence of Kosovo’s gratitude toward the U.S., underlining that gratitude is also a virtue that stems from religious teachings.

Maliqi: Our religion teaches us that gratitude is a very great virtue

“Our religion teaches us that gratitude is a very great virtue. The Prophet Muhammad, may God’s praises and blessings be upon him, left us an eternal lesson, which says: ‘Whoever does not thank people has not thanked God.’ Today, through this modest ceremony, but one of great meaning, we are putting precisely this lesson into practice. We thank a great friend, while not forgetting that the source of every good thing is God Almighty and that the highest thanks belong to Him. Therefore today, from the courtyard of this mosque in Pristina, we say with respect, with heart and with gratitude: Thank you, America! Thank you for the steadfast friendship! Thank you for the unwavering support! Thank you for the historic contribution to the freedom, peace and state-building of the Republic of Kosovo!” Maliqi declared.

Today, the United States of America is celebrating Independence Day, while July 4 marks the 250th anniversary of the declaration of U.S. independence.

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted again in the early hours of this Wednesday morning regarding the citizens’ protest against the government’s project for Zvërnec, which today enters its 25th day.

In his post, the head of government focused on one of the many messages that, according to him, have reached him during these days.

Good morning, and with one of the many messages from these astonishing days, for better and for worse, which someone generously posted and another person kindly sent to me, I wish you a good day!

***

Here is the profile of the generous stranger that my friend sent me, together with the video post’s status????

@mr.elprofe

I tried for a few moments to put myself in the prime minister’s shoes.

Not to flatter him.

Not to convince anyone.

Simply to see how I would view the world in his place.

I grew up in an Albania where you couldn’t walk 200 meters without your shoes tearing apart.

We would be naive to say that no good things have been done.

That does not mean everything is perfect.

Nor that mistakes have not been made.

But for clarification:

I have not earned my living from the Albanian state since 1997.

I am neither sold out.

Nor bought.

And I do not support anyone blindly.

This song is simply an attempt to see the other side of the story.

A countercurrent to what we hear every day.

I know I will be insulted.

But that’s okay.

Because in the end:

The one who insults, insults.

The wise one thinks.
