The latest PISA results have ranked Albania first in the region following a significant improvement in mathematics, science and reading.

However, MP Mariana Koçeku has questioned how these figures were obtained because, according to her, a considerable number of Albanian schools did not participate in the assessment.

In a social media post, Koçeku highlighted that the country gained 65 points in mathematics, 59 points in science and 50 points in reading, results that placed it first in the region.

The MP stressed that only 76% of schools were included in the assessment, while the required standard stipulates a participation rate of 85%. She added that schools with fewer than 21 students were excluded from the assessment altogether.

According to Koçeku, these are mainly schools in rural areas and small communities, where the problems and barriers to quality education have historically been greater.

She clarified that the strong results achieved by the participating students should not be dismissed, if they are genuine, but objected to their being presented as a complete picture of education in Albania.

In her view, the debate should not be limited to the country’s position in international rankings but should also include the conditions under which education is provided in the country.

In her post, Koçeku writes that Albania received “a perfect 10 with a star” in PISA, but warns that the meaning of that star is not what it appears to be.

She refers to the minister’s statement from Bratislava, where an increase of 65 points in mathematics, 59 points in science and 50 points in reading was announced, along with Albania’s ranking as first in the region.

Koçeku explains that PISA is the international assessment that measures the abilities of 15-year-olds in mathematics, science and reading. However, according to her, the OECD, the organization responsible for administering the test, marked Albania with a star in the results table.

The MP claims that this symbol means the results may have been manipulated. As evidence, she cites the fact that school participation stood at only 76%, while the required standard is 85%.

Furthermore, no school with fewer than 21 students was included in the assessment.

According to her, these educational institutions are often located in rural areas and in smaller, more neglected communities, where opportunities for quality education have long been more limited.

For this reason, Koçeku says she does not understand what is being celebrated about the PISA results.

She also questions the minister’s enthusiasm, arguing that these schools are not only absent from international assessments but also remain outside the focus of state attention and investment.

According to the MP, the concern is not whether the participating students achieved good results. On the contrary, she says their achievements should be applauded if they are genuinely good.

The problem, according to her, lies in presenting these results as evidence of the state of Albania’s entire education system when part of the country’s educational reality was not assessed.

Koçeku compares the situation to calculating a class average while excluding the students with poorer results. In this way, she says, the average may look good, but that does not necessarily reflect the state of the class.

She adds that it is difficult to trust these selective statistics as long as children continue to walk for an hour to reach school, teachers are paid less than waiters, educational institutions operate in deplorable conditions and villages continue to shrink, weaken and lose their character.

In Koçeku’s view, a genuinely good PISA result for Albania would mean fewer schools in deplorable conditions and fewer children for whom education presents a challenge before they even enter the classroom.

Above all, she calls for teachers to be treated and paid with dignity and to be given the opportunity to practise their profession with integrity.

Koçeku concludes that the quality of Albanian education cannot be assessed solely through international tests. According to her, the most direct measure is the school provided to a child in the country’s most remote corner.

Megjithatë, deputetja Mariana Koçeku, ka vënë në dyshim mënyrën e përftimit të këtyre të dhënave, pasi, sipas saj, një numër i konsiderueshëm shkollash shqiptare nuk morën pjesë në testim.

Përmes një reagimi në rrjetet sociale, Koçeku evidentoi se vendi ka fituar 65 pikë në matematikë, 59 pikë në shkencë dhe 50 pikë në lexim, rezultate që e kanë pozicionuar të parin në rajon.

Deputetja theksoi se në vlerësim u përfshinë vetëm 76% e shkollave, ndërsa standardi i kërkuar përcakton një pjesëmarrje prej 85%. Ajo shtoi se shkollat që kanë më pak se 21 nxënës u përjashtuan plotësisht nga testimi.

Sipas Koçekut, bëhet fjalë kryesisht për shkolla në zona rurale dhe komunitete të vogla, ku problemet dhe pengesat për arsim cilësor kanë qenë historikisht më të mëdha.

Ajo sqaroi se rezultatet e mira të nxënësve pjesëmarrës nuk duhen zhvlerësuar, nëse janë reale, por kundërshtoi që ato të paraqiten si tabloja e plotë e arsimit në Shqipëri.

Në vlerësimin e saj, debati nuk duhet të kufizohet te pozicioni në renditjet ndërkombëtare, por duhet të përfshijë edhe kushtet në të cilat ofrohet arsimi në vend.

Në postimin e saj, Koçeku shkruan se Shqipëria është vlerësuar me “dhjetë me yll” në PISA, por paralajmëron se domethënia e këtij ylli nuk është ajo që duket.

Ajo i referohet deklaratës së ministres nga Bratislava, ku u njoftua rritja me 65 pikë në matematikë, 59 pikë në shkencë dhe 50 pikë në lexim, si edhe renditja e Shqipërisë në vendin e parë në rajon.

Koçeku shpjegon se PISA është vlerësimi ndërkombëtar që mat aftësitë e 15-vjeçarëve në matematikë, shkencë dhe lexim. Por, sipas saj, në tabelën e rezultateve OECD-ja, organizata përgjegjëse për zhvillimin e testit, e ka shënuar Shqipërinë me një yll.

Deputetja pretendon se kjo shenjë nënkupton se rezultatet mund të jenë manipuluar. Si argument, ajo sjell faktin se pjesëmarrja e shkollave ishte vetëm 76%, kur standardi i kërkuar është 85%.

Po ashtu, asnjë shkollë me më pak se 21 nxënës nuk u bë pjesë e testimit.

Sipas saj, këto institucione arsimore gjenden shpesh në zonat rurale dhe në komunitetet më të vogla e më të braktisura, ku mundësitë për një arsim cilësor kanë qenë prej kohësh më të kufizuara.

Për këtë arsye, Koçeku shprehet se nuk e kupton se çfarë po festohet në lidhje me rezultatet e PISA-s.

Ajo vë në pikëpyetje edhe entuziazmin e ministres, duke argumentuar se këto shkolla jo vetëm mungojnë në vlerësimet ndërkombëtare, por mbeten edhe jashtë vëmendjes së shtetit dhe investimeve.

Sipas deputetes, shqetësimi nuk lidhet me faktin nëse nxënësit pjesëmarrës kanë marrë rezultate të mira. Përkundrazi, ajo thotë se arritjet e tyre duhet të përshëndeten, nëse janë vërtet të mira.

Problemi, sipas saj, qëndron te paraqitja e këtyre rezultateve si dëshmi për gjendjen e të gjithë arsimit shqiptar, ndërkohë që një pjesë e realitetit arsimor të vendit nuk është testuar.

Koçeku e krahason këtë situatë me përllogaritjen e mesatares së një klase duke përjashtuar nxënësit me rezultate më të dobëta. Në këtë mënyrë, thotë ajo, mesatarja mund të duket e mirë, por jo domosdoshmërisht edhe gjendja e klasës.

Ajo shton se është e vështirë t’u besohet këtyre statistikave preferenciale për sa kohë që fëmijët vazhdojnë të ecin nga një orë në këmbë për të arritur në shkollë, mësuesit paguhen më pak se një kamarier, institucionet arsimore punojnë në kushte mjerimi dhe fshatrat vazhdojnë të zvogëlohen, dobësohen e tjetërsohen.

Në vlerësimin e Koçekut, një rezultat realisht i mirë i PISA-s për Shqipërinë do të nënkuptonte më pak shkolla në kushte të mjerueshme dhe më pak fëmijë për të cilët arsimi përbën sfidë ende pa hyrë në klasë.

Mbi të gjitha, ajo kërkon që mësuesit të trajtohen dhe të paguhen me dinjitet, si dhe të kenë mundësi ta ushtrojnë profesionin e tyre me integritet.

Koçeku përfundon se cilësia e arsimit shqiptar nuk mund të vlerësohet vetëm përmes testeve ndërkombëtare. Sipas saj, matësi më i drejtpërdrejtë është shkolla që i ofrohet një fëmije në skajin më të largët të vendit.
