Matilda Braho, a journalist with the program “Review,” reported from Ndërfushaz in Mirditë, where 65-year-old Viktor Bardhi was killed in an organized assassination. Residents told her that the victim was devoted to his family and described the circumstances near the scene of the incident.

Bardhi was on his way to work at the water utility and, after traveling about one kilometer from his home, was attacked at one of the locations he visited every day to supply the village with drinking water.

The Mercedes-Benz in which the 65-year-old was traveling was struck by a hail of bullets. Bardhi died at the scene, while his body was found by local residents, who immediately notified the police.

Residents’ accounts

One of the neighbors said she had seen Viktor driving past at around 08:00. According to her, just three minutes later, a blue vehicle traveled in the same direction.

“Viktor drove past at eight o’clock. Exactly three minutes later, the blue car that was following him also passed by. I saw them on my home security cameras. First, we heard a gunshot and then a burst of gunfire,” the resident recounted.

She said it was her son who notified the police after finding the 65-year-old dead. The victim’s neighbor described Bardhi as a family man and a hard worker.

“He was a family man and worked to provide for his family. We are terrified. Three murders have occurred in a short period of time,” she said.

Another resident said Bardhi went to that area every day to turn on the drinking water supply.

“He came every day to turn on the water. We greeted each other today, but if I had known it was the last time, I would not have let him go,” the resident said.

He expressed concern about safety in that part of the area, describing the underpass as a dangerous place suitable for setting up ambushes.

“This underpass poses a major danger. Even before Viktor’s murder, we had said it could be used as an ambush site. The perpetrators knew where he was going, followed him and then ambushed him, leaving him dead at the scene,” he said.

The Kapshtica Customs Branch will be temporarily closed on Monday, July 27, due to a planned strike by Greek customs officers.

Authorities have announced that traffic at this border crossing will be suspended from 05:00 to 09:00 Albanian time.

During this period, vehicles will not be allowed to cross in either direction, whether entering or leaving through the Kapshtica Customs Branch.

Albanian Customs has urged citizens, travelers, and commercial operators planning trips or shipments of goods to Greece not to use the Kapshtica Border Crossing between 05:00 and 09:00, in order to avoid delays and long lines.

The notice addressed to citizens and businesses states that the closure will be implemented on Monday, July 27, and that the suspension of traffic has been confirmed by the Greek customs authorities.

For this reason, all citizens and businesses intending to travel to Greece are advised to avoid crossing through Kapshtica during the specified hours.
