A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the areas of Bardhaj and Myselim in Shkodër. Strong wind and rugged terrain contributed to the spread of the flames.

To deal with the situation, intervention is being carried out both on the ground and from the air, using a helicopter. Numerous firefighting forces and civil emergency structures are involved in the operation.

On the ground are six firefighting vehicles from the Municipality of Shkodër, a water bowser from the Public Services Enterprise, the Forestry Service, representatives of Civil Emergencies, as well as structures from the administrative units of Rrethina and Postribë.

The intervention so far has enabled the protection of 15 homes, removing the danger for families living in the area affected by the fire.

The operation is also being reinforced by a firefighting vehicle from the RKV 1010 Unit in Vau i Dejës. Actions are being coordinated with the Prefecture of Shkodër Region and the National Civil Protection Agency.

The engaged forces continue working to isolate the fire spots and fully extinguish the flames, while protecting homes and residents remains the main objective.

Defense Minister Ermal Nufi has shared footage of the operation to put out the fire that engulfed Fier on Friday, highlighting the involvement of firefighting forces and aircraft.

In an official statement, he provided details about the participation of the Armed Forces at various locations across the country, where efforts are underway to neutralize and contain the flames.

According to the information, 55 military personnel have been deployed in Drizë-Radostinë, in the municipality of Fier, assisted by two Air Force helicopters. The operation also required the evacuation of 10 families from the area.

In the Ungrej Administrative Unit, Lezhë, the contingent numbers 80 military personnel, supported by an Air Force helicopter.

Meanwhile, five army firefighting vehicles and one helicopter were deployed in the village of Qinam, Zall-Herr. According to the authorities, the fire there has now been completely extinguished.

In the Dajti area, the operation is continuing with 30 personnel and one helicopter, while in Mallunxë, Mat, the force also consists of 30 troops and a firefighting vehicle. In the latter area, homes are not currently under threat.

The minister emphasized that the Armed Forces remain on high alert to respond immediately to any needs of communities wherever the risk arises.

Analyst Baton Haxhiu analyzed the strength and limits of the civic movement against the executive, dismissing the notion that the absence of a leader makes the protest stronger.

He distinguishes two different concepts of legitimacy: moral and constitutional. For Haxhiu, street action has served to undermine the moral authority of the government, but changing constitutional legitimacy requires other mechanisms, such as the electoral process, a complete institutional blockade, or a revolutionary movement.

“They govern knowing that among a large part of citizens their moral authority has fallen, due to repeated decisions and mistakes, and they experience this as a challenge in their daily governing confrontations. However, the loss of constitutional legitimacy is conditioned by several stages: through elections, challenging legitimacy with a motion, a total blockade of the system, and revolution. There is no other way out,” the analyst said.

According to him, the movement has so far only touched one point: calling moral credibility into question, turning the protest into a factor that now possesses part of this moral legitimacy.

Haxhiu emphasizes that taking to the streets is not enough without a concrete project behind it. He insists that the protest itself must give birth to the new political figure and platform that will lead society.

“Albania needs a new political offer. But what is that new thing that has yet to take shape as an idea? This can be brought by the protest, which should have done so earlier. Around the world, protests create a cause and a political vision that produces a new direction. The fact that people continue to demand leadership even with this longevity of the protest proves that they still do not have a clear role in relation to the old power,” he stated.

In concluding his argument, Haxhiu added: “The movement must produce the political figure. The axis of evil does not disappear simply by protesting, without a guiding idea. Therefore, I repeat: automatically, the majority cannot produce legitimacy and legality in Albanian society, just as it cannot, in any form, question constitutional legitimacy.”

The Sarandë Court has decided on the security measures for the people detained following the serious incident in Ksamil, in which a tourist lost his life.

Sokrat Vata, suspected of being responsible for the incident, will remain in pretrial detention after the court ordered his arrest and remand in custody.

The court imposed the same security measure—arrest and remand in custody—on Ezgi Parlak and Nuh Mahmutoglu.

Ildi Cekani and Ardit Kasemi were ordered to remain in custody for a period of 45 days.

Luciano Seferi, Moisi Matushaj, Romeo Shehu and Kristo Kosho will face proceedings under the measure requiring them to report to the judicial police.

Ervis Gjoshi was introduced on Monday by Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari as the acting director of the General Directorate of Fire Protection and Rescue.

His appointment to lead the institution comes after the resignation of Arben Cara. Gjoshi has an 18-year career in the State Police and previously served as deputy director for Public Order and Security at the Tirana Local Police Directorate, as well as police station chief in Dibër.

At the presentation ceremony, Lamallari highlighted the new director’s experience and stressed the need to strengthen the Fire Protection and Rescue Service structures.

The minister said that Gjoshi’s 18-year career in the State Police and his extensive experience in leading security structures give him the expertise and sense of responsibility required by an institution of such importance.

Reviewing the legal framework governing the Fire Protection and Rescue Service and drafting a national fire prevention programme will be among the new leadership’s priorities, according to Lamallari.

The head of the Interior Ministry also stressed that citizens must be guaranteed a professional, well-organised service at all times, one that is prepared to deal with emergencies.

Lamallari described prevention as the Albanian government’s main objective and as the issue Albanian citizens expect most.

At the height of the tourist season, hundreds of vehicles from Kosovo have set off for Albania, significantly increasing traffic at the Morina border crossing.

Vehicle queues and heavy traffic are visible along the Road of the Nation, particularly on the section between Morina customs and the toll plaza.

To manage the high number of travelers and avoid lengthy waits, all booths at the border crossing have been opened. Meanwhile, measures to speed up traffic have also been implemented at the Road of the Nation toll plaza.

In the last 12 hours, 25 fire hotspots have been identified across the country. Of these, 10 are still active, while civil emergency structures continue working to isolate and extinguish them.

The Ministry of Defense announces that 454 operational forces and 47 firefighting vehicles have been engaged in operations. The action is being carried out under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency, prefectures, local units, and the Armed Forces.

Also deployed on the ground are 110 Armed Forces personnel and army firefighting vehicles, while aerial interventions are being carried out with three helicopters and the “Air Tractor” aircraft.

In Dajt, work to bring the flames under control continues both from the ground and from the air. Authorities state that residential areas are not currently at risk. Also in the village of Priskë in Tirana, intervention is underway against a fire that has engulfed forested areas, without posing a danger to residents.

In Mallakastër, ground teams and aerial assets are operating in Riban and Ngraçan, where the hotspot is heading towards isolation.

In Elbasan County, operations are ongoing in Shqiponjë, on Mount Dardha, in Mjekës, and within the protected area of Mount Valamara. The fires in Shqiponjë and Mjekës have been brought under control and do not threaten residential areas.

A hotspot has been reactivated in Kostren 2, in the municipality of Berat, where firefighting services are working to extinguish the flames. Meanwhile, the fires reported in Floq of Korça and in Shpërdhet–Drojë of Kurbin have been extinguished.
