Long lines of vehicles with foreign license plates formed today at the Tabanovce border crossing, where drivers are waiting to pay fines for traffic violations recorded by the “Safe City” system.

Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski recently stated that no driver can evade the system when traveling on roads in Macedonia where cameras for speed monitoring have been installed. According to him, this applies both to vehicles with Macedonian license plates and to those with foreign plates.

Toshkovski emphasized that the law will be enforced without exception and that anyone who commits a traffic violation in Macedonia will be punished, regardless of their country of origin.

When the “Safe City” system began operating at the start of this year, authorities announced that vehicles with foreign license plates, even if found to have committed an offense, would not be stopped as they left the country. Instead, drivers would receive an official notice stating that they would not be allowed to enter Macedonia again without first paying the fine.

A joint operation between the Customs Directorate and the Ministry of Internal Affairs resulted in the inspection of 38 watercraft on Lake Ohrid. During this action, authorities verified both the customs status of the vessels and the identity of the persons at the helm.

After the inspections, Customs noticed a higher volume of customs duty payments, especially for those vessels that had entered the customs territory under the temporary import regime.

Gjoko Trposki, who heads the Bitola Customs Office, stressed that the recent period has marked a significant increase in the fulfillment of import obligations by the owners of these vessels, which according to him demonstrates the effectiveness of the control measures.

On the other hand, the customs institution warned that monitoring actions will be continuous and any violation of the law will be punished, ranging from fines to outright confiscation of the watercraft.

Five people have been arrested by police officers from the Skopje Regional Police Department in connection with two criminal offenses reported on August 9, 2026, the Macedonian Ministry of Interior announced.

In cooperation with the Tetovo Regional Police Department, officers detained J.J. (24), A.O. (22), and A.A. (24), all from Gostivar. They are suspected of attacking V.O. (23) from Austria around 4:00 a.m. on August 9, 2026, near the city park in Skopje and attempting to take his money and personal belongings. During the assault, one of them caused a cut.

The Ministry of Interior announced that the robbery committed on August 9, 2026, in “Macedonia” Square in Skopje, targeting Sh.S., has also been clarified. According to the report, a bag containing documents and money was taken from him.

After receiving the report, officers from the Centar and Bit Pazar police stations immediately launched the necessary measures and actions to solve the case. As a result, A.A. (18) and A.S. (19), both from Skopje, were taken into custody. The Ministry of Interior stated that once the cases are documented, the corresponding reports will be compiled.

On the morning of July 24, 2026, police authorities in Skopje were notified of a road incident on the highway linking the capital with the Lower Bllacë border crossing.

According to data from Macedonia’s Ministry of Interior, two vehicles with Kosovo registration were involved. One car, a Kia, was driven by K.C., 33, while behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf was S.J., 61, both from Kosovo.

Following the collision, both drivers and several passengers suffered injuries. Severe bodily injuries were sustained by both drivers, as well as S.J., 54, and E.J., 20, who were travelling in the Volkswagen Golf. Meanwhile, two other passengers in the same car, B.H., 23, and B.I., 35, sustained bodily injuries. All those involved are citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

Medical teams received the injured at the “8 September” General Hospital and at the Emergency Centre near the “Mother Teresa” clinical complex in Skopje, where their injuries were diagnosed and treated.

The public prosecutor has ordered that the driver of the Kia, K.C., be detained as soon as he is released from hospital. Additionally, the investigative unit of the Skopje Police Department has carried out an examination of the accident site to clarify the full circumstances of the incident.

Arrested were individuals with the initials P.T., 18 years old, N.M. and S.K.P., both 23 years old. During the searches conducted on them, the police found and seized significant quantities of marijuana as well as another substance in powder form.

Authorities announced that, after completing full investigative procedures and compiling the necessary documentation, corresponding criminal charges will be filed against the three suspects with the judicial bodies.

After an extensive investigation and verification of numerous warrants issued by the public prosecutor, sufficient evidence has been gathered to file formal charges. M.V. faces a charge of “murder” under Article 123, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, while his wife is accused of aiding and abetting the commission of the crime.

The police reconstruction of the scene shows that S.V. initially agreed with the victim to meet in the parking lot. After A.T. entered her vehicle, a few minutes later M.V. appeared, forcefully pulled him out of the car, and attacked him viciously with a knife. The doctor was dealt nine fatal stab wounds, which killed him instantly.

Immediately after the act, the couple coordinated to move the lifeless body. Together they placed the victim in the car and M.V. drove the vehicle to the parking lot of the Zhelezara Polyclinic. There, he moved the body to the driver’s seat and carefully cleaned all traces from the car using an unknown substance. Then, both left the scene, according to sources from the Ministry of Interior.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, yesterday in the early morning hours, around 06:45, the Skopje Internal Affairs Sector was notified by the “Mother Teresa” Clinical Center about the death of citizen M.A., a resident of Miladinovci village.

The deceased had been transported to the hospital on July 8, 2026, with severe bodily injuries. According to preliminary data, he had fallen from the first-floor terrace of a residence.

By order of the prosecution, the lifeless body of the victim has been sent for a forensic examination.
