A police officer from the Skopje Interior Department is suspected of abusing his position, causing at least 85,500 denars in losses to the state budget.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that between April and July, the officer collected fines in cash from citizens at the City Parking public enterprise. Instead of recording the payments through a POS terminal, he is suspected of misappropriating part of the money.

The investigation indicates that, in several traffic violation cases, he allegedly submitted proof of payment belonging to other individuals and cases, while failing to hand over the cash he had received.

The Prosecutor’s Office also suspects that the officer enabled some individuals to pay lower fines or avoid them altogether.

At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the court ordered him to be detained for eight days.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that on August 1, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., officers from the Skopje Police Department arrested V.H. (21), a resident of the village of Idrizovo near Skopje.

The arrest followed a report filed by I.B. (44), who alleged that on July 31, 2026, at around 11:50 p.m. in the village of Idrizovo, V.H. had inflicted serious bodily injuries on his 15-year-old son. The incident was linked to an earlier disturbance of public order and peace.

Once the case has been fully investigated and documented, the Violent Crime Unit at the Skopje Police Department will file criminal charges for the offense of “serious bodily injury,” as stipulated under Article 131 of the Criminal Code.

A serious traffic accident was reported last night on the Mother Teresa Highway, near the Glumovo toll plaza, in the direction from Tetovo to Skopje, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The multi-vehicle collision occurred at 8:20 p.m. and involved a car and two motorcycles.

According to preliminary information, the accident involved a Mercedes with Tetovo license plates, driven by 35-year-old N.A. from the village of Poroj. Also involved in the collision were a Ducati motorcycle with Skopje license plates, ridden by 45-year-old D.A. from Skopje, and a Honda motorcycle, also registered in Skopje, ridden by 43-year-old I.P. from Skopje.

All three drivers sustained serious bodily injuries in the accident.

After receiving first aid at the scene, the injured were rushed to medical facilities. The severity of their injuries was officially confirmed at the Clinical Center in Tetovo and the St. Naum of Ohrid City General Hospital in Skopje.

Police detained six people and summoned another for an official interview after a video showing gunfire during a family celebration in Dobërdoll, Gostivar, was posted on social media.

The Tetovo Department of Internal Affairs said searches were conducted at several addresses in the village, during which weapons, ammunition and shell casings were seized.

According to police, the initial searches were carried out at the homes of I.S. (21), A.I. (30) and I.B. (25), all residents of Dobërdoll.

At A.I.’s home, officers found and seized a gas pistol.

During another search, conducted at B.A.’s home, 30 gas-pistol cartridges were found. Officers also seized 27 spent gas-pistol casings from the yard, as well as one shotgun shell. B.A. (46) and his son, M.A. (21), were detained.

A search was also conducted at the home of T.M. (26). Police seized a pistol with eight rounds, a hunting rifle with seven rounds and a gas pistol. Following the search, T.M. was detained, while S.M. was summoned for an official interview.

All those detained were taken to the police station. Once the incident has been fully documented, the appropriate charges will be filed against them.

A 22-year-old Kosovar citizen, identified by the initials G.K., was arrested at 17:00 on Friday in the Bit Pazar area of Skopje. The arrest was carried out by police officers from the Department for International Police Cooperation.

The Macedonian Interior Ministry announced that an international arrest warrant had been issued for him for the criminal offenses of theft, aggravated theft, bodily injury and extortion.

The Interior Ministry’s statement said that G.K. had been transferred to the Kisella Voda Police Station, where further proceedings will continue.

Two Skopje residents, M.K. (30) and A.M. (40), were detained today at 01:30 by officers from the Skopje Internal Affairs Department on Indira Gandhi Street.

Police had spotted M.K. throwing away a bag of marijuana. When officers attempted to search him, he assaulted a police officer and tried to flee, but was stopped and arrested.

During the intervention, A.M. attempted to prevent the officers from detaining and escorting M.K., so he was also arrested.

An employee of the Employment Center in Prilep was taken into custody on suspicion of demanding 18,000 denars to ensure that a resident of Belo Pole village would not lose his social assistance. His promise also included registering the resident’s wife as an active job seeker.

Police carried out the arrest yesterday, at the moment the official was receiving the final installment of 6,000 denars.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the incident began on April 23, when the victim and his wife, who are social assistance beneficiaries, received a message from the Agency to report for a job training. The suspect warned them that refusing the training would lead to the termination of their aid, and as a solution he demanded half of the monthly social payment, specifically 6,000 denars each month.

The Prosecutor’s Office clarifies that the accused also promised to enter the woman into the Agency’s electronic register as a job seeker, despite the fact that she did not possess a control card and did not regularly submit it to the Center.

The day after the conversation, the victim handed over 4,000 denars in the office, then 2,000 denars, and continued to pay regularly each month. During the delivery of the last amount on July 24, police officers discovered and seized the banknotes from the suspect, who was immediately arrested.

The public prosecutor has filed a request with the Basic Court of Prilep for the detention of the official. He is being prosecuted for the criminal offense of ‘bribery’.

Following the entry into force on July 14 of amendments to the Law on Road Traffic Safety, police have begun penalizing electric scooter riders who violate the new rules. A total of 12 fines have been issued so far.

Data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs show that three riders were fined for using an electric scooter without a protective helmet. This violation carries a fine of 50 euros.

Nine other fines, each amounting to 80 euros, were imposed on people who rode scooters in areas where the use of such vehicles is prohibited.

One case of mobile phone use while riding an electric scooter was also recorded, resulting in a fine of 100 euros.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that all penalties imposed so far involved adults, while no electric scooters have been confiscated.

A traffic accident in Skopje’s Gjorče Petrov neighborhood left a motorcyclist seriously injured after he was struck by a passenger vehicle whose driver then fled the scene.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said the incident was reported on July 21, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m. The collision occurred at the intersection of Gjorče Petrov and Makedonski Vojski streets.

The accident involved a motorcycle with Skopje license plates, ridden by Sh.Sh. (44) from the village of Volkovo, and a car that left immediately after the incident.

The motorcyclist’s serious injuries were confirmed while he was receiving treatment at the 8 September City General Hospital in Skopje.

A team from the Skopje Internal Affairs Department examined the scene of the collision, while police are taking steps to identify and locate the driver and the vehicle that fled after the accident.

A Turkish citizen has been deprived of his liberty after being caught with forged documents for the vehicle he was driving. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that the case was discovered during a border check.

The incident occurred on July 21, 2026, at around 15:50, at the Deve Bair border crossing. Police stopped the 37-year-old Turkish citizen D.A. as he attempted to enter the country. During the procedure, it was established that he had presented a forged green card for a “Mercedes” truck with a semi-trailer, bearing Turkish license plates.

After the violation was confirmed, the authorities immediately notified the public prosecutor. According to the MoI’s announcement, after the complete documentation of the event is finished, appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect.
