Another friend of 20-year-old Portuguese national Luis Miguel Varela Mendes, who was stabbed to death a few days ago in Ksamil, has testified about the incident.

According to the testimony in the case file obtained by journalist Klodiana Lala, French national Ibraim Leimoeiv said that they had been celebrating at “Principote” and later went outside to sit on the sun loungers.

He also testified that a person approached them, insulted them by invoking their mothers, and then headbutted one of those present.

The tourist said that other people later arrived and became involved in the conflict. He identified Sokrat Vata as the perpetrator, saying that he approached a friend with a knife and then struck Miguel.

The tourist also emphasized that he tried to give his friend first aid by placing his shirt over the wound, but the young man did not survive.

“We were all together. A person wearing shorts and a gray short-sleeved shirt approached us. He spoke a little French. He told us to calm down or he would f*** our mothers, and then he headbutted my friend Tourpal. We became involved in the conflict. During the conflict, other people arrived, and I saw a person dressed in beige and white, with long chestnut-colored hair and a small beard, who approached Tourpal with a knife and then turned toward Louis Miguel. There was a lot of movement and many people there, and I did not see the moment when he struck Louis Miguel. I then gave my friend first aid by placing a shirt over his wound,” he said.

The French tourist also identified Sokrat Vata as the perpetrator after being shown a photograph.

Ai ka dëshmuar po ashtu se një person u është afruar, duke i ofenduar nga nëna dhe më pas ka goditur njërin prej të pranishmëve aty me kokë.

Turisti ka treguar se më pas kanë shkuar edhe persona të tjerë që janë përfshirë në konflikt. Ai e ka identifikuar Sokrat Vatën si autor, për të cilin thotë se i është drejtuar një miku me thikë dhe më pas ka goditur Miguelin.

Turisti po ashtu, theksoi se ka tentuar që t’i japë mikut të tij ndihmën e parë, duke i vendosur bluzën te plaga, por i riu nuk mundi të mbijetojë.

“Ishim të gjithë së bashku. Aty ka ardhur një person i cili ishte i veshur me pantallona të shkurtra dhe bluzë me mëngë të shkurtra ngjyrë gri i cili fliste pak frëngjisht. Ai na thotë qetësohuni ose do të q* nënën, ndërsa më pas goditi me kokë shokun tim Tourpal. Ne u përfshimë në konflikt. Gjatë konfliktit erdhën dhe persona të tjerë dhe kam parë një person i veshur me ngjyrë bezhë në të bardhë me flokë të gjata gështenjë me pak mjekër i cili ju drejtua Tourpalit me thikë dhe më pas ju drejtua Louis Miguel. Aty ka pasur shumë lëvizje e persona dhe nuk e kam parë momentin kur ka goditur Louis Miguel. Unë më pas i kam dhënë ndihmën e parë shokut tim duke i vendosur një bluzë të plaga”, tha ai.

Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu has reacted following the serious incident at the “Principote” hotel in Ksamil, where Portuguese tourist Luis Miguel Varela Mendes was stabbed to death.

According to Balliu, public safety in the country has deteriorated, while crime and insecurity have reached alarming levels.

He stressed that Albania has been left without security, without police and without a functioning state.

The Democratic Party MP said that events in recent days have shown that public safety has effectively collapsed. As an example, he cited the killing of the Portuguese tourist in Ksamil at the height of the tourist season.

Balliu attributed the situation to the deterioration of the state and the infiltration of crime into politics, Parliament and everyday life in Albania.

According to him, gangs are no longer found only on the streets but have moved closer to institutions and entered areas where the state should be operating.

He warned that Albania is turning into a “jungle” where criminals are attempting to impose their own law.

Balliu emphasized that protests against crime are not what harms tourism. According to him, it is crime, insecurity and the absence of the state that deal a blow to the sector, while when institutions surrender, crime becomes the law.

Ai paralajmëron se Shqipëria po shndërrohet në një “xhungël”, ku banditët përpiqen të imponojnë ligjin e tyre.

Balliu nënvizon se protestat kundër krimit nuk janë ato që e dëmtojnë turizmin. Sipas tij, goditjen ndaj këtij sektori e japin krimi, pasiguria dhe mungesa e shtetit, ndërsa kur institucionet dorëzohen, krimi kthehet në ligj.

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the young man who died this morning in Ksamil. Contrary to initial reports that the victim was a French citizen, further checks confirmed that he was Portuguese national Luis Miguel Varela Mendes, born on 27 September 2005.

He was identified through an identity document found during the investigation. The victim was initially recorded under the initials M. M., but his initials were later confirmed to be L. V.

The investigation led by the Prosecutor’s Office is also examining the role of two Turkish nationals. They were in the vehicle in which Sokrat Vata, the perpetrator of the incident, was apprehended. He was arrested a few hours earlier in Levan, Fier, while being transported toward Tirana.

Police and the investigative team are continuing to gather evidence to fully document the circumstances and establish legal responsibility in connection with the incident in Ksamil, Sarandë.

Once the initial investigative procedures have been completed, the authorities are expected to issue a full statement on the case.
