The Durrës Local Bar Chamber boycotted civil and criminal court hearings for two hours, from 08:00 to 10:00 on Friday morning, in protest and solidarity with their colleague Elton Shllaku, who was wounded on Wednesday afternoon at one of the cafés in neighborhood No. 1 of the coastal city.

The only exception to the boycott was hearings concerning the review of security measures.

Speaking to the media, the head of the Durrës Local Bar Chamber, Lorval Petani, emphasized that repeated incidents endangering lawyers’ lives and safety while they are carrying out their profession require special institutional attention and protection.

The lawyer’s wounding is suspected to be linked to a legal dispute over property ownership. The chamber called on the Durrës Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a swift, thorough and comprehensive investigation aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.

The issue of lawyers’ safety while carrying out their duties is expected to be discussed at the next meeting of the General Council of the National Bar Chamber.
