The Energy, Water Services and Municipal Waste Management Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of North Macedonia (KRRE) approved a decision to increase the retail prices of petroleum products by an average of 4.85% compared with the decision dated 10.8.2026.

Under the decision, EUROSUPER BS-95 and EUROSUPER BS-98 petrol will each increase by 4.50 denars per litre. The price of EURODIESEL (D-E V) will rise by 6.50 denars per litre, while Extra Light Household Oil (EL-1) will cost 6.00 denars more per litre. An increase of 0.188 denars per kilogram has been set for M-1 SU fuel oil, bringing its price to 43.726 denars per kilogram.

The reduced excise duty of 2.00 denars per litre for EUROSUPER BS-95 and EUROSUPER BS-98 petrol remains in effect under today’s decision. The excise duty reduction of 4.00 denars per litre also remains in place for EURODIESEL (D-E V).

Starting at 00:01 on 18.8.2026, the maximum prices will be as follows:

EUROSUPER BS-95 motor petrol: 91.50 denars per litre.

EUROSUPER BS-98 motor petrol: 93.50 denars per litre.

EURODIESEL BS (D-E V): 98.00 denars per litre.

Extra Light Fuel Oil 1 (EL-1): 98.50 denars per litre.

M-1 SU fuel oil: 43.726 denars per kilogram.

Starting August 1, households receiving heating through the largest system, which includes EMV Supply, EMV Distribution and EMV Heat Production, will face an average price increase of 5.96%. The decision was approved by the Energy, Water Services and Municipal Waste Management Regulatory Commission (KRRE).

For households supplied by the former Skopje Sever heating plant, now called Energy Ecolink, the price will increase by an average of 3.6%. Meanwhile, the increase for household customers of EMV Energetika will be around 5%.

KRRE Chairman Aco Ristov said the decision to adjust the price by 5.96% was made following detailed economic and technical analyses of the operations of the energy companies supplying heat to consumers in the City of Skopje. According to him, the average bill will rise from 2,353 denars to 2,493 denars, an increase of 140 denars.

Ristov noted that the public, which has followed the process from the outset, has already been informed that the energy companies had submitted requests for increases ranging from 30% to 130%. He said that in the coming period, it is important to merge all ESM heating companies, an initiative supported by KRRE that aims to optimize resources, improve efficiency and ensure a favorable price for consumers.

Referring to the results of the analyses, the KRRE chief also announced that, on an annual basis, Skopje residents who use heating pay the lowest annual rate compared with residents of Belgrade, Ljubljana, Sofia and Sarajevo.

During one heating season, 1,521 new consumers were connected, bringing the total number of consumers supplied with heating to 67,494.

In an interview with AIM, KRRE chairman Aco Ristov said that block tariffs were introduced at the height of the energy crisis in 2022, but stressed that since then, the situation in the energy sector has changed significantly.

As he put it, the main goal is for citizens to pay less for the electricity they consume. Ristov believes there is room to review the block tariffs and adapt them to new developments in electricity generation from renewable sources.

According to him, the increase in production from solar and wind power plants is creating new challenges for the system, as most of the electricity is produced during the day, at a time when market prices are often very low and, in some cases, fall to zero.

Preliminary analyses by the KRRE show that between 11:00 and 15:00 there is a surplus of electricity, opening up the possibility for households to be offered cheaper energy during that interval. At the same time, the current concept of the night free tariff could also be reconsidered.

“The most expensive electricity on the market today is between 21:00 and 12:00, and that is when the free tariff is applied in our country. This is economically illogical and shows that we need to adapt to the new market conditions,” Ristov emphasized.

He underlined that the goal is not only to reduce costs for citizens, but also to create more favorable conditions for investment in renewable energy sources. According to him, if the trend of extremely low prices on the stock market during the day continues, this could discourage investors and slow the development of green energy.

Ristov believes the energy sector is in a phase of major transformation and that it will be necessary to change electricity consumption habits so the system can adapt as efficiently as possible to the growth in production from the sun and wind.

According to this decision, the retail price of EUROSUPER BS-95 gasoline will be lower by 3.50 denars/liter, while the price of EUROSUPER BS-98 gasoline will fall by 4.00 denars/liter.

At the same time, the retail prices of EURODIESEL (D-E V) and Extra Light Household Fuel Oil (EL-1) will drop by 7.00 denars/liter. Likewise, the retail selling price of Mazut M-1 SU has been reduced by 3.932 denars/kg and will now be 42.291 denars/kg.

Starting from 23.06.2026 at 00:01, the maximum prices of petroleum products will be set as follows:

Motor gasoline EUROSUPER BS-95 84.00 (denars/liter)

Motor gasoline EUROSUPER BS-98 86.00 (denars/liter)

Motor fuel EURODIZEL BS (D-E V) 80.50 (denars/liter)

Extra Light Fuel Oil 1 (EL-1) 79.50 (denars/liter)

Mazut M-1 SU 42.291 (denars/kilogram).
