Macedonia could significantly increase the efficiency of its electricity production if it invests without delay in battery storage technologies. This would make it possible to store energy when it costs less, and then use or export it when demand and market prices are higher.

The assessment was made by former Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the Macedonian Energy Association, Koço Angjushev, during an interview with “Bloomberg Adria.”

“Bulgaria has acted very well in this regard and secured considerable financial benefits. Macedonia can also follow this example, so it should take advantage of this opportunity, not miss it, and act quickly in this sector,” Angjushev said.

The importance of battery systems is growing in parallel with the expansion of production from photovoltaic power plants. During the hours when solar facilities generate large amounts of energy, considerable surpluses may arise in the market, putting downward pressure on prices.

Surplus energy would not need to be sold immediately at low rates. It could be stored in batteries and put to use at a later stage, when demand rises and the price is more favorable.

Angjushev stressed that such a mechanism would be beneficial not only for investors in renewable energy sources. Batteries could also help stabilize and better balance the electricity system, reducing the costs associated with this process.

Rëndësia e sistemeve të baterive po shtohet paralelisht me zgjerimin e prodhimit nga termocentralet fotovoltaike. Në orët kur impiantet diellore gjenerojnë sasi të mëdha energjie, në treg mund të krijohen teprica të konsiderueshme, të cilat ndikojnë në uljen e çmimeve.

Energjia që mbetet tepricë nuk do të ishte e nevojshme të shitej menjëherë me tarifa të ulëta. Ajo mund të depozitohej në bateri dhe të vihej në përdorim në një fazë të mëvonshme, kur kërkesa rritet dhe çmimi është më i favorshëm.

Angjushev theksoi se një mekanizëm i tillë do të ishte i dobishëm jo vetëm për investuesit në burimet e rinovueshme. Bateritë mund të ndihmojnë gjithashtu në stabilizimin dhe balancimin më të mirë të sistemit elektroenergjetik, duke ulur kostot që lidhen me këtë proces.
