Journalist Klodiana Lala reported on the latest developments in SPAK’s operation, during which assets were seized in the Palasë area that are suspected of being indirectly linked to former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

Speaking live on News24, Lala said that the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office had taken new steps, further worsening Balluku’s position.

According to her, the decision to seize the assets was signed by prosecutor Erion Çela. So far, SPAK has not clarified which assets were seized or on what basis it was determined that they were indirectly controlled by Balluku.

Lala said that other assets had previously been seized in the same area, while important evidence is suspected to have been found on several mobile phones. BKH officers are continuing the procedures to seize the assets, which are then expected to be blocked.

SPAK is investigating Balluku for corruption in connection with the Llogara Tunnel and the New Ring Road. Earlier, the authorities also seized a luxury villa in Dhërmi, which is suspected of belonging to her.

“So far, there is no information on whether there will be a new request for Balluku’s arrest, while Mr. Braho has not ruled it out. Journalist Klodiana Lala has called on SPAK to launch an investigation into the allegations raised by former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who published an audio recording mentioning the US-Israeli citizen Ron Yeffet and alleging suspected arms-trafficking activities in Albania.

During the “First Minute” program, hosted by Ola Bruko on News24, Lala said the audio materials require immediate and thorough verification by the Special Prosecution Office. According to her, this is not just a matter of three episodes, but of hours of recordings that may contain information about other individuals and other corruption cases.

Lala also linked the issue to the forced removal of the News24, BalkanWeb and Panorama staff from their workplaces. She said that following Ahmetaj’s allegations, suspicions had grown that the company Kayo may have had a dual activity: engaging in illegal activity and silencing News24, a television station that has exposed corruption cases over the years.

According to the claims made public by Ahmetaj and commented on by the journalist, the weapons may have been procured in Africa and Sudan, brought to Albania to be assembled and packaged, and then transported to a European Union country or Ukraine.

“News24 has criticized Ahmetaj’s positions even when he failed to do his duty, but this time he has published evidence. Mr. Braho should launch an investigation ex officio into the allegations of arms trafficking and verify whether senior Albanian officials were involved in this scheme,” Lala declared.

She pointed out that Ahmetaj’s complaint mentions a person named “Ermal Raketa,” while in another recording Ron Yeffet mentions the name Ermal Nufi. However, she said that before investigating this connection, SPAK should also examine the circumstances surrounding News24’s eviction from the building.

Lala called for the full materials to be obtained through letters rogatory sent to foreign authorities and the European Union. She said the identities of all the people mentioned in the recordings should be verified, along with their entries into Albanian territory and the date on which Ron Yeffet entered Albania. She added that SPAK should contact the relevant authorities to obtain the complete recordings and begin questioning the people involved.

The journalist stated that News24’s premises and work equipment were taken by force after army forces removed the News24, BalkanWeb and Panorama staff from the building. She said the employees were not allowed to return to their workplaces or collect their equipment, while some of them are still inside the building.

“When News24 turned to SPAK over the eviction from the building, our complaint was not taken into consideration and there was a display of brutality. Today, following Ahmetaj’s allegations, suspicions about Kayo’s activities and arms trafficking have become even stronger. These audio recordings have seriously wounded Rama, even more than the protest, which today is the 101st in a row,” Lala said.

She added that Ahmetaj had spoken out before, but that this was the first time, according to her, that he had published evidence and facts on television in which Ron Yeffet appears. Lala called for a full investigation into the information made public, suggesting that SPAK obtain the audio materials from Syri TV and investigate all the people mentioned.

This Friday, Ergys Agasi appeared before the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), where he was formally notified of the security measure previously imposed in his absence.

He was arrested two days ago in the Plepave area of Durrës.

The hearing began at 09:30 but was interrupted at the request of the defense, which asked for time to review the case file. When the proceedings resumed, Special Prosecutor Bledar Maksuti requested that the “detention in prison” measure against Agasi remain in force.

According to him, the suspect poses a high flight risk, as he had been wanted for eight months.

SPAK considers Agasi the leader of a structured criminal group that, according to the investigation, operated within the National Agency of Information Society (AKSHI), in cooperation with Ermal Beqiri.

He is accused of unlawful competition through violence, unlawful deprivation of liberty, money laundering and violating equality in tenders, with the aim of removing rivals from public procurement competitions.

The defense has requested that the measure be replaced with a more lenient security measure. The lawyer said that his client had not been involved in criminal activity and had not administered public funds.

At the time of his detention, former police official Uljan Shpataraku was also in the vehicle with Agasi. The latter is expected to appear before the GJKKO tomorrow, where he will face charges of aiding the perpetrator of a crime.

Uljan Shpataraku was wanted over a fight that had occurred in the south of the country, where, according to the police, he had threatened hotel employees. We reported that Shpataraku was facing criminal proceedings to return to the police, but this is now a somewhat complex matter.

Some time ago, suspicions arose that Agasi was hiding in Durrës and Elbasan, during a search being conducted by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation. There was also a reaction from international actors, and this further tightened the noose around Ergys Agasi. Durrës, because it has grown and has its own connections, is the city where he operated the most. Durrës is also the main gateway for the trafficking of large quantities of narcotics… so it was advantageous because it also generated financial capacity. Sipas gazetares, në momentin kur u ndalua nga forcat e policisë, Agasi nuk ka bërë rezistencë fizike, por ka reaguar me një fjalor të ashpër.

“Në momentin që është ndaluar ka pasur jo kundërshtim, por reagim me një fjalor jo normal. Më pas e ka kuptuar dhe është detyruar të dalë dhe të zbatojë të gjitha procedurat”, tha Lala.

Gjatë kontrollit të kryer pas ndalimit, sipas informacioneve të bëra publike, janë gjetur dy çanta dhe një shumë prej rreth 4 mijë eurosh.
