Islam Abazi’s mandate as head prosecutor of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption (PTHPNKOK) is nearing its end. Abazi was elected to the position in October 2022.

At its 50th session, scheduled to take place today, the Council of Public Prosecutors is expected to establish the bodies that will oversee the process of selecting the new head of PTHPNKOK.

The agenda calls for the establishment of the Commission for Preparing the List of Candidates and the Commission for Selecting a Public Prosecutor-in-Chief of PTHPNKOK.

So far, five public prosecutors have submitted their candidacies for the post. The chair of the Council of Public Prosecutors, Bashkim Besimi, confirmed to AIM that the candidates are High Public Prosecutor Jove Cvetanovski; Trajče Pelivanov, a prosecutor at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office and former prosecutor at the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office; Lidija Raičevič, a prosecutor at the Skopje Special Public Prosecutor’s Office; and PTHPNKOK prosecutors Iskra Haxhi-Vasileva and Faton Azizi.

The call for the selection of the head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption was published on the basis of the Law on the Council of Public Prosecutors and the Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Public prosecutors are eligible to apply if, by the time of application, they have at least six years of uninterrupted experience in the prosecutorial function and have received positive evaluations during the past three years.

The election of the new head prosecutor of PTHPNKOK is scheduled to take place on October 28, 2026.

Mandati i Islam Abazit si kryeprokuror i Prokurorisë Themelore Publike për Ndjekjen e Krimit të Organizuar dhe Korrupsionit (PTHPNKOK) po shkon drejt përfundimit. Abazi u zgjodh në këtë detyrë në tetor të vitit 2022.

Në seancën e 50-të, e cila është parashikuar të zhvillohet sot, Këshilli i Prokurorëve Publikë pritet të krijojë strukturat që do të ndjekin procesin e zgjedhjes së drejtuesit të ri të PTHPNKOK.

Rendi i ditës parashikon ngritjen e Komisionit për Përgatitjen e Listave të Kandidatëve dhe të Komisionit për Zgjedhjen e një Kryeprokurori Publik të PTHPNKOK.

Deri tani, pesë prokurorë publikë kanë dorëzuar kandidaturat për këtë post. Kryetari i Këshillit të Prokurorëve, Bashkim Besimi, konfirmoi për AIM se në garë janë Prokurori i Lartë Publik Jove Cvetanovski, prokurori i Prokurorisë së Lartë Publike dhe ish-prokurori i PSP-së Trajçe Pelivanov, prokurorja e PSP Shkup Lidija Raiçeviç, si dhe prokurorët e PTHPNKOK Iskra Haxhi-Vasileva dhe Faton Azizi.

Thirrja për zgjedhjen e kreut të Prokurorisë Publike NKOK është publikuar në bazë të Ligjit për Këshillin e Prokurorëve Publikë dhe Ligjit për Prokurorinë Publike. Të drejtën për të kandiduar e kanë prokurorët publikë që, deri në momentin e aplikimit, kanë të paktën gjashtë vjet përvojë të pandërprerë në funksionin prokurorial dhe që gjatë tre viteve të fundit janë vlerësuar pozitivisht.

Zgjedhja e kryeprokurorit të ri publik të PTHPNKOK është planifikuar të bëhet më 28 tetor 2026.

Islam Abazi has announced that he will not seek re-election for a second four-year term as head of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption.

“After eight years, one should know when enough is enough; other colleagues should also be given an opportunity,” Abazi said, thus putting an end to speculation over whether he would seek another term.

The Council of Public Prosecutors has currently opened the call for applications to select the next head of this Prosecutor’s Office.

Abazi took office in November 2022, having previously headed the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Gostivar since 2018. He has announced that he will return to that position after his current term ends.

He was elected through a direct vote by all public prosecutors in the country, a procedure used for the first time following legal amendments made during that period. Abazi received 66 votes, finishing ahead of candidates Ermon Neziri, Villma Ruskova and Fatime Fetai.

Islam Abazi ka bërë të ditur se nuk do të rikandidojë për një mandat të dytë katërvjeçar si drejtues i Prokurorisë Themelore Publike për Ndjekjen e Krimit të Organizuar dhe Korrupsionit.

“Pas tetë vitesh, njeriu duhet ta dijë se mjafton, duhet t’u jepet mundësia edhe kolegëve të tjerë”, u shpreh Abazi, duke i mbyllur kështu dilemat rreth mundësisë së kandidimit të tij për një mandat të ri.

Aktualisht, Këshilli i Prokurorëve Publikë ka hapur konkursin për zgjedhjen e drejtuesit të ardhshëm të kësaj Prokurorie.

Abazi e mori këtë detyrë në nëntor të vitit 2022, pasi më herët, që nga viti 2018, kishte drejtuar Prokurorinë e Lartë Publike në Gostivar. Pas mbarimit të mandatit aktual, ai ka njoftuar se do të rikthehet në atë post.

Zgjedhja e tij u realizua përmes votimit të drejtpërdrejtë nga të gjithë prokurorët publikë në vend, procedurë e përdorur për herë të parë pas ndryshimeve ligjore të bëra në atë periudhë. Abazi mori 66 vota, duke lënë pas kandidatët Ermon Neziri, Villma Ruskova dhe Fatime Fetai.
