On International Youth Day, Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa dedicated a message to the young people who have been protesting for 74 days, describing them as Albania’s true hope.

According to Zhupa, the protesters are demanding accountability and refuse to accept a reality that forces their friends, peers and cousins to leave the country in order to secure a better future.

The Democratic MP emphasized that young people have risen to take the country’s fate into their own hands, opposing corruption, injustice, the lack of opportunities, the arrogance of those in power and a system that has closed its doors to them. They are also protesting against treating Albania as spoils for the prime minister’s whims and desires.

In her statement, Ina Zhupa said that hope springs from the younger generation and that, precisely on International Youth Day, faith in Albania comes from the young people who have not given up.

She stressed that this protest is not only about the present, but also about the Albania in which young people want to live in the future and their right to decide for themselves what the country should be like tomorrow.

Even after 74 days, despite fatigue, pressure and the indifference of those in power, they continue to stand their ground. For Zhupa, Albania’s true hope is a young generation that, instead of leaving, rises up; that does not choose silence, but demands the right to decide its own future.

Deputetja demokrate thekson se të rinjtë janë ngritur për të marrë në duar fatin e vendit, duke kundërshtuar korrupsionin, padrejtësinë, mungesën e mundësive, arrogancën e pushtetit dhe një sistem që ua ka mbyllur dyert. Në reagimin e saj, Ina Zhupa shprehet se shpresa buron nga rinia dhe se, pikërisht në Ditën Ndërkombëtare të Rinisë, besimi për Shqipërinë vjen nga të rinjtë që nuk janë dorëzuar.

Ajo nënvizon se kjo protestë nuk lidhet vetëm me të tashmen, por me Shqipërinë ku të rinjtë duan të jetojnë në të ardhmen dhe me të drejtën e tyre për të vendosur vetë se si duhet të jetë vendi nesër.

Ina Zhupa, a Democratic Party MP and political leader for the Saranda district, has opposed the Saranda Municipal Council’s decision to use the rear section of the courtyard at “Hasan Tahsini” High School as a public parking lot. She called the decision a scandal and a threat to students’ safety.

Zhupa said that for years, the community, teachers and students have been calling for the area to be turned into a sports and recreational space.

According to her, European standards aim to expand green spaces and reduce vehicle traffic near educational institutions.

While acknowledging that Saranda needs public parking lots, the MP called on the municipality to abandon the project. She stressed that the parking problem should not be solved at the expense of school grounds and children’s safety.

According to Zhupa, the Saranda Municipality’s scandal lies in its plan to turn the courtyard of “Hasan Tahsini” High School into a public parking lot.

She said that the community, teachers and students have long called for the space at the rear of the “Hasan Tahsini” High School courtyard to be used for sports and recreational facilities serving young people. According to her, such an initiative would constitute an investment in the education, health and well-being of the younger generation. However, after the property was transferred to the Saranda Municipality, the Socialists on the Saranda Municipal Council voted to repurpose the courtyard for vehicle parking.

Zhupa emphasized that school planning criteria call for the opposite: fewer vehicles near educational buildings and more safe, green and sports areas for students. According to her, municipalities that act responsibly establish protected perimeters around schools, restrict vehicle traffic and fund spaces that promote physical activity and social interaction instead of increasing traffic.

According to the MP, a public parking lot near the high school would lead to more vehicles entering and leaving, greater risks to students, more noise and air pollution, and less dignified conditions for an educational institution. She stressed that the school courtyard cannot be treated as spare land to compensate for the Saranda Municipality’s lack of vision.

Zhupa said that Saranda undoubtedly needs public parking lots and that this demand has been raised repeatedly, as the shortage is the result of inadequate urban planning. However, according to her, parking lots should be built in areas specifically designated for that purpose and on the basis of a serious urban development plan. She added that when vision is lacking, schools are the ones sacrificed.

According to the MP, a European city cannot be built by giving up school spaces. On the contrary, the European cities that Saranda claims it wants to resemble invest in providing schools with more greenery, sports facilities and security.

In conclusion, Zhupa called for the cancellation of the project, which she described as shameful, and for an end to the undermining of safety and standards for the high school’s students.

Sipas Zhupës, skandali i Bashkisë Sarandë qëndron te plani për ta shndërruar oborrin e gjimnazit “Hasan Tahsini” në një parking publik.

Ajo tha se komuniteti, mësuesit dhe nxënësit kanë kërkuar prej kohësh që hapësira në pjesën e pasme të oborrit të gjimnazit “Hasan Tahsini” të përdoret për mjedise sportive dhe rekreative në shërbim të të rinjve. Një ndërhyrje e tillë, sipas saj, do të përbënte investim në edukimin, shëndetin dhe mirëqenien e brezit të ri. Megjithatë, pasi kjo pasuri i kaloi Bashkisë Sarandë, socialistët në Këshillin Bashkiak të Sarandës votuan që oborri të tjetërsohet dhe të shërbejë për parkimin e automjeteve.

Zhupa nënvizoi se kriteret për planifikimin e shkollave parashikojnë të kundërtën: më pak automjete pranë godinave arsimore dhe më shumë zona të sigurta, sportive e të gjelbra për nxënësit. Sipas saj, bashkitë që veprojnë me përgjegjësi ndërtojnë perimetra të mbrojtur rreth shkollave, kufizojnë lëvizjen e mjeteve dhe financojnë hapësira që favorizojnë aktivitetin fizik dhe socializimin, në vend që të shtojnë trafikun.

Një parking publik pranë gjimnazit, sipas deputetes, do të sillte shtim të hyrje-daljeve të automjeteve, rrezik më të lartë për nxënësit, më shumë zhurmë dhe ndotje të ajrit, si dhe kushte më pak dinjitoze për një institucion arsimor. Ajo theksoi se oborri i shkollës nuk mund të trajtohet si truall rezervë për të kompensuar mungesën e vizionit të Bashkisë Sarandë.

Zhupa deklaroi se Saranda ka padyshim nevojë për parkingje publike dhe se kjo kërkesë është ngritur vazhdimisht, pasi mungesa e tyre vjen si rezultat i planifikimit të pamjaftueshëm urban. Megjithatë, sipas saj, parkingjet duhet të realizohen në zona të përcaktuara posaçërisht për këtë funksion dhe mbi bazën e një plani serioz urbanistik. Ajo shtoi se, kur mungon vizioni, janë shkollat ato që sakrifikohen.

Sipas deputetes, një qytet europian nuk mund të ndërtohet duke hequr dorë nga hapësirat shkollore. Përkundrazi, qytetet europiane, të cilave Saranda pretendon t’u ngjajë, investojnë për t’u siguruar shkollave më shumë gjelbërim, ambiente sportive dhe siguri.

Në përfundim, Zhupa kërkoi anulimin e këtij projekti, të cilin e cilësoi të turpshëm, si dhe ndalimin e cenimit të sigurisë dhe standardeve për nxënësit e gjimnazit.

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has accused Sarandë Municipality and the Sarandë Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company of mismanaging public funds and delaying the construction of the water distribution network in Gjashtë.

She said the project had cost approximately €400,000 including VAT, but work has continued beyond the contractual deadline and, according to her, fails to meet acceptable quality standards.

Zhupa said Gjashtë has been without running water for more than three months, at the height of the tourist season.

The MP described the situation as a serious failure by the responsible institutions and called for transparency over the funds spent, explanations for the delays, and accountability for the conditions residents are facing.

In her full statement, Zhupa said €400,000 in taxpayers’ money had been spent on the water supply network in Gjashtë, Sarandë, while residents remain without water and work is being carried out beyond the deadlines, at a standard she compared to the Middle Ages.

For the construction of the water distribution network in the village of Gjashtë, Sarandë Municipality, through the Sarandë Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company JSC, awarded the project to COGREN shpk for 33,333,330 lek excluding VAT. This amounts to around €330,000 excluding VAT and approximately €400,000 including VAT.

Although the contract stipulated a period of just eight months and the work was due to be completed in December 2025, it has still not been finished.

According to the MP, the area looks like a neglected construction site, with dug-up roads, mud, and makeshift work, as though it had been taken back several decades to the Middle Ages.

According to Zhupa, the most serious problem remains the lack of water for more than three months. During the busiest period of the tourist season, families have been forced to live in unacceptable conditions, while their protests have gone unanswered. She said the situation is severely harming both residents’ livelihoods and tourism.

The MP demanded clarification on where the hundreds of thousands of euros had gone and who would be held accountable for the project delays, the lack of oversight of the work, and the hardship caused to residents.

According to her, Sarandë Municipality must not evade responsibility through excuses but should explain the missed deadlines, the quality of the work, and why residents were left without an essential service for several months despite the expenditure of public funds. Zhupa added that election promises had remained nothing more than routine propaganda, producing no tangible results for Sarandë residents.

Zhupa bën të ditur se Gjashta ka mbetur pa furnizim me ujë për më shumë se tre muaj, pikërisht gjatë kulmit të sezonit turistik.

Deputetja e cilëson këtë gjendje si një dështim serioz të institucioneve përgjegjëse dhe kërkon transparencë mbi fondet e përdorura, sqarime për vonesat dhe përgjegjësi për kushtet me të cilat po përballen banorët.

Në reagimin e saj të plotë, Zhupa shprehet se nga taksat e qytetarëve janë përdorur 400 mijë euro për rrjetin e ujësjellësit në Gjashtë të Sarandës, ndërkohë që banorët vazhdojnë të mos kenë ujë dhe ndërhyrjet po kryhen jashtë afateve, me një cilësi që ajo e krahason me Mesjetën.

Për realizimin e rrjetit shpërndarës të ujësjellësit në fshatin Gjashtë, Bashkia Sarandë, nëpërmjet Shoqërisë Rajonale Ujësjellës Kanalizime Sarandë SH.A., ia ka dhënë projektin kompanisë COGREN shpk për shumën 33.333.330 lekë pa TVSH. Kjo vlerë përllogaritet në rreth 330 mijë euro pa TVSH dhe afërsisht 400 mijë euro me TVSH.

Megjithëse kontrata parashikonte një afat vetëm 8-mujor dhe punimet duhej të përfundonin në dhjetor 2025, ato ende nuk janë mbyllur.

Sipas deputetes, zona të jep pamjen e një kantieri të lënë pas dore, me rrugë të çara, baltë dhe ndërhyrje primitive, sikur të ishte kthyer disa dekada pas, në Mesjetë.

Problemi më i rëndë, sipas Zhupës, mbetet mungesa e ujit për më shumë se tre muaj. Në periudhën më të ngarkuar të sezonit turistik, familjet janë detyruar të jetojnë në kushte të papranueshme, ndërsa protestat e tyre nuk kanë marrë përgjigje. Ajo vlerëson se kjo situatë po dëmton rëndë si jetesën e banorëve, ashtu edhe turizmin.

Deputetja kërkon të sqarohet se ku kanë përfunduar qindra mijëra eurot dhe se kush do të mbajë përgjegjësi për zvarritjen e projektit, mungesën e kontrollit mbi punimet dhe vështirësitë që u janë shkaktuar banorëve.

Sipas saj, Bashkia Sarandë nuk duhet të shmangë përgjegjësinë përmes justifikimeve, por duhet të japë shpjegime për tejkalimin e afateve, cilësinë e punimeve dhe lënien e qytetarëve pa një shërbim jetik për disa muaj, pavarësisht se fondet publike janë shpenzuar. Zhupa shton se premtimet elektorale kanë mbetur propagandë e zakonshme, pa sjellë asnjë rezultat konkret për banorët e Sarandës.

According to her, due to poor planning, every day buses and other transport vehicles are forced to make an unnecessary maneuver, adding about 1.5 kilometers to their route until the roundabout at the entrance of Saranda, just to reorient in the correct direction.

Zhupa stresses that even the roundabout itself is problematic due to its non-functional construction. This situation, she says, generates heavy traffic daily, increased pollution, and significant delays for travelers. She accuses the Municipality of Saranda of having conceived this project without serious analysis from specialists and without a long-term urban vision.

In her response, the DP MP describes this as the daily transport routine in Saranda. She explains that the incorrect exit from the terminal forces passenger vehicles to make this absurd loop every day. Instead of immediately entering their itinerary, they are forced to travel about 1.5 kilometers towards the roundabout at the city entrance to make the turn and return to the starting point of their destination.

According to Zhupa, the situation is further aggravated by the fact that the project was based on what municipal employees call post-construction experiments, rather than proper expert studies. Even the roundabout in question is designed in the most impractical way, blocking large-tonnage vehicles, causing artificial traffic congestion, and making normal circulation difficult.

The deputy concludes by arguing that this state of affairs is the result of infrastructure conceived not by road safety and urban planning experts, but based on arbitrary municipal decisions, without studies and without vision. The consequence, she emphasizes, is evident to all: wasted time for hundreds of passengers, increased pollution from additional emissions, and a city gateway overloaded with traffic. Saranda, according to her, needs a modern and practical infrastructure, not thoughtlessly thrown-together projects that burden residents, businesses, and vacationers daily.

Zhupa thekson se edhe vetë rrethrrotullimi paraqet problematikë për shkak të ndërtimit jofunksional. Kjo situatë, sipas saj, gjeneron çdo ditë trafik të rënduar, rritje të ndotjes dhe vonesa të konsiderueshme për udhëtarët. Në reagimin e saj, deputetja e PD-së e përshkruan këtë si rutinën e përditshme të transportit në Sarandë. Ajo shpjegon se dalja e gabuar e terminalit i detyron mjetet e udhëtarëve të kryejnë këtë xhiro absurde çdo ditë. Në vend që të futen menjëherë në itinerarin e tyre, ato shtyhen të udhëtojnë rreth 1.5 kilometra drejt rrethrrotullimit në hyrje të qytetit për të bërë kthesën dhe për t’u rikthyer në pikën e nisjes së destinacionit.

Sipas Zhupës, situata rëndohet edhe më tepër nga fakti që projekti është mbështetur në ato që punonjësit e bashkisë i quajnë eksperimente pas ndërtimi, dhe jo mbi studime të mirëfillta ekspertësh. Edhe rrethrrotullimi në fjalë është konceptuar në mënyrën më jopraktike, duke bllokuar mjetet e tonazhit të madh, duke shkaktuar ngarkesë artificiale të trafikut dhe duke e bërë të vështirë qarkullimin normal.

Deputetja përmbyll duke argumentuar se kjo gjendje është fryti i një infrastrukture të konceptuar jo nga ekspertë të sigurisë rrugore dhe planifikimit urban, por bazuar në vendime arbitrare të bashkisë, pa studime dhe pa vizion. Pasoja, nënvizon ajo, është e dukshme për të gjithë: kohë e humbur për qindra pasagjerë, ndotje e shtuar nga emetimet shtesë dhe një portë hyrëse e qytetit e mbingarkuar nga trafiku. Sarandës, sipas saj, i duhet një infrastrukturë moderne dhe praktike, jo projekte të hedhura pa mend të cilat u rëndojnë përditë banorëve, sipërmarrjeve dhe pushuesve.

2 million euros from the Albanian Development Fund to destroy, with citizens’ money, one of Albania’s most precious natural assets is scandalous!

A citizen sent me this video, denouncing the alarming situation and the damage being done to the Bënja Baths, one of the country’s rarest natural and tourist gems.

The citizen informs me that every day there were vacationers with fractures or injuries being sent to the hospital in Përmet after falling in that area, until the Baths were closed last week.

The thermal springs, the Langarica canyons and the unique landscape have for decades been a special destination for Albanian and foreign visitors, an asset that should have been protected and promoted, not concretized and destroyed.

Worst of all, this is the second time citizens are paying for the same story of failure. The previous works cost around 200 thousand euros, but the results on the ground had nothing to do with the project presented. The project photos and the implementation photos are like night and day. The money was spent, but the investment failed.

Instead of demanding accountability for that failure and sending the case to justice, the Albanian Development Fund opened another tender titled “Integrated intervention to strengthen tourism potential in natural areas, Region 4: Bënja – International Tourist Destination,” with a limit fund of a full 2 million euros.

Instead of preserving nature, there is aggressive intervention in a unique ecosystem. The images speak of concrete construction that is destructive to the site.

This is not a restorative intervention, nor a carefully studied intervention in harmony with the ecosystem. This is misuse of public funds, lack of responsibility, and another example of how Albania’s natural assets are treated like ownerless property. First we pay for a project that is not properly carried out, then we pay again to correct the failure, and in the end nature comes out more damaged than before.

The Bënja Baths do not need concrete; they need protection, careful management and investments that respect their nature, history and identity.

Who will bear responsibility for the damage caused? Who will account for the hundreds of millions of lek spent while an irreplaceable natural asset is degrading before our eyes?

Këtë video ma ka dërguar një qytetar, i cili denoncon gjendjen alarmante dhe dëmet që po i bëhen Banjave të Bënjës, një prej perlave më të rralla natyrore dhe turistike të vendit.

Qytetari më informon se çdo kishte pushues me fraktura apo lëndime që dërgoheshin në spitalin e Përmetit, pasi rrëzoheshin në atë zonë, deri sa Banjat u mbyllën javën e kaluar.

Burimet termale, kanionet e Langaricës dhe peizazhi unik kanë qenë për dekada një destinacion i veçantë për vizitorët shqiptarë e të huaj, një pasuri që duhej mbrojtur dhe promovuar, jo betonizuar dhe shkatërruar.

Më e rënda është se kjo është hera e dytë që qytetarët paguajnë për të njëjtën histori dështimi. Punimet e mëparshme kushtuan rreth 200 mijë euro, por rezultatet në terren nuk kishin asnjë lidhje me projektin e prezantuar. Fotot e projektit dhe ato të zbatimit janë si nata me ditën. Paratë u shpenzuan, por investimi dështoi.

Në vend që ti kërkohej llogari për atë dështim dhe të coheshin letrat para drejtësise, Fondi Shqiptar i Zhvillimit hapi një tender tjetër me objekt “Ndërhyrje e integruar për fuqizimin e potencialit turistik në zonat natyrore, Rajoni 4: Bënja – Destinacion Ndërkombëtar Turistik”, me fond limit plot 2 milion euro.

Në vend të ruajtjes së natyrës, po ndërhyhet në mënyrë agresive në një ekosistem unik. Pamjet flasin për një punim betoni, shkatërrues për vendin.

Kjo nuk është ndërhyrje restauruese, as ndërhyrje e studiuar në harmoni me eko sistemin. Kjo është shpërdorim fondesh publike, mungesë përgjegjshmërie dhe një tjetër shembull se si pasuritë natyrore të Shqipërisë trajtohen si pronë pa zot. Fillimisht paguajmë për një projekt që nuk realizohet siç duhet, pastaj paguajmë sërish për të korrigjuar dështimin, ndërsa në fund natyra del më e dëmtuar se më parë.

Banjat e Bënjës nuk kanë nevojë për beton, kanë nevojë për mbrojtje, menaxhim të kujdesshëm dhe investime që respektojnë natyrën, historinë dhe identitetin e tyre.

Kush do të mbajë përgjegjësi për dëmin e shkaktuar? Kush do të japë llogari për qindra milionë lekë të shpenzuara, ndërsa një pasuri e pazëvendësueshme natyrore po degradohet para syve tanë?
