Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, visited the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where human remains believed to belong to at least 23 people forcibly disappeared during the last war in Kosovo have been sent.

During the visit, Kurti announced that the remains were discovered at three different sites in the villages of Kalludër and Jabukë, in the municipality of Zubin Potok.

He said that, one month after the excavations began, the work had entered the phase of examination and professional procedures aimed at identifying and documenting the human remains.

According to his statement, four DNA samples taken from the remains discovered in Jabukë have so far been sent to The Hague for analysis.

“Since the end of the war, around 2,700 excavations have been carried out, and this year alone, a total of 30 human remains have been found in 17 of them,” Kurti wrote.

The acting prime minister stressed that determining the fate of people forcibly disappeared not only gives their families answers after a long wait, but also paves the way for justice to be served.

Kurti was at the Institute of Forensic Medicine together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, where he also received information about the investments made to modernize the institution.

He said that more than 814,000 euros had been invested in the infrastructure of the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The funds were used to improve the safety and functionality of the facility, as well as to create more suitable conditions for forensic medical services.

Kurti also announced that the autopsy room and the toxicology, histopathology and anthropology laboratories had been reconstructed and equipped to modern standards. As part of the works, a modern archive and suitable space for storing evidence were also established, while the facilities where forensic clinical examinations are conducted were improved as well.

Kryeministri në detyrë i Kosovës, Albin Kurti, vizitoi Institutin për Mjekësi Ligjore, ku janë dërguar mbetje mortore që dyshohet se u përkasin të paktën 23 personave të zhdukur me dhunë gjatë luftës së fundit në Kosovë.

Gjatë vizitës, Kurti bëri të ditur se mbetjet janë zbuluar në tri pika të ndryshme në fshatrat Kalludër dhe Jabukë, në komunën e Zubin Potokut.

Ai tha se, një muaj pas nisjes së gërmimeve, puna ka hyrë në fazën e ekzaminimit dhe të procedurave profesionale që synojnë identifikimin dhe dokumentimin e mbetjeve mortore.

Sipas njoftimit të tij, deri tani katër mostra ADN-je, të marra nga mbetjet e zbuluara në Jabukë, janë përcjellë në Hagë për analiza.

“Që nga përfundimi i luftës janë kryer rreth 2700 gërmime, e vetëm këtë vit nga 17 sosh janë gjetur gjithsej 30 mbetje mortore”, ka shkruar Kurti.

Kryeministri në detyrë theksoi se përcaktimi i fatit të personave të zhdukur me dhunë jo vetëm u jep familjeve përgjigje pas një pritjeje të gjatë, por hap edhe rrugën për vendosjen e drejtësisë.

Kurti ishte në IML së bashku me zëvendëskryeministren dhe ministren e Drejtësisë, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, ku mori informacion edhe për investimet e kryera për përditësimin e këtij institucioni.

Ai deklaroi se në infrastrukturën e Institutit për Mjekësi Ligjore janë investuar mbi 814 mijë euro. Fondet janë përdorur për përmirësimin e sigurisë dhe funksionalitetit të objektit, si dhe për krijimin e kushteve më të përshtatshme për shërbimet mjekoligjore.

Kurti njoftoi gjithashtu se janë rikonstruktuar dhe pajisur me standarde moderne salla e autopsisë, si dhe laboratorët e toksikologjisë, histopatologjisë dhe antropologjisë. Në kuadër të punimeve është ngritur edhe një arkiv modern dhe hapësirë e përshtatshme për ruajtjen e dëshmive, ndërsa janë përmirësuar edhe ambientet ku kryhen ekzaminimet klinike mjekoligjore.

A resident found several human remains in an open area in Rahovec on Wednesday this week. It was later established that the bones were human and had been carried to the site by water following the recent rainfall.

In its initial announcement, the Police said the relevant units had arrived at the scene and recovered the remains.

On Saturday, the Police announced that the bones had been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

“Rahovec 29.07.2026 – NN. On 31.07.2026, police units, together with IML officials, went to the location known as ‘Rimnik i Tares.’ During excavations, skeletal remains were discovered, which were confirmed to be of human origin and of interest to the IML.

The case is being handled by the IML,” the Police announcement said.

Një qytetar gjeti të mërkurën e kësaj jave disa mbetje mortore në një hapësirë të hapur në Rahovec. Më pas u konstatua se eshtrat ishin njerëzore dhe se në atë vend ishin bartur nga uji si pasojë e reshjeve të fundit atmosferike.
