At midday this Monday, a road accident involving five vehicles occurred on the Tirana-Durrës highway.

The collision caused heavy traffic along this route, while miles-long lines of vehicles created difficulties for motorists.

A vehicle collided with a truck, and as a result of the collision, four people were injured.

Traffic police immediately arrived at the scene and are managing heavy traffic, with queues stretching for several kilometres in the lane towards Fier.

According to preliminary information, the driver of a Volkswagen entered the junction from the secondary road linking the Drivers’ Rest area and Divjake, while a minibus travelling towards Fier was unable to avoid the collision.

The Volkswagen driver is in hospital and, according to medical staff, is out of danger.

The Drivers’ Rest junction remains a daily black spot until ARRSH decides to invest in the overpasses on the Lushnje-Fier highway, which have remained unfinished since the highway opened.

The official statement says that, immediately after the information was received, maintenance teams went to the scene and began the necessary actions.

According to the ministry, within a short period of time the drainage system was cleaned and the accumulated water was removed, making it possible to restore normal and safe traffic on that part of the highway.

The Ministry also stresses that it is continuously monitoring the road network and that the teams remain on full alert to intervene whenever needed, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of all road users.

Regarding reports of water accumulation on a section of the “Arbën Xhaferi” Highway, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announces that maintenance teams reacted immediately on the ground.

Within moments, the drainage system was cleaned and the accumulated water was removed, restoring normal and safe traffic on this section of the highway.

Initially, Basha expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and relatives, and then commented on the public claims that had been made about the causes of the accident.

“Dear citizens, the tragic accident of June 14 on the ‘Dr. Ibrahim Rugova’ Highway, in which a female citizen lost her life, deeply affected us all. Once again, I express my deepest condolences to her family and relatives,” Basha wrote.

He stressed that, according to the official report of the Kosovo Police, the incident occurred as a result of the driver losing control of the vehicle.

“Today, the official report of the Kosovo Police shows that, based on professional investigations, the driver lost control of the car, first hitting the road signage and then the side protective barriers,” he said.

According to Basha, the report’s conclusions state that the road had no impact on causing the accident and that traffic was unobstructed.

“The report finds that both traffic lanes were open for movement and that the condition of the road did not contribute to causing the accident. These are official findings of the competent authorities,” he added.

Basha also criticized public statements that, according to him, sought to use this event for political gain.

“Let this be a lesson for everyone that such tragedies should not be used for political propaganda,” Basha said.

In the end, he once again repeated his condolences to the victim’s family.
