The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office is questioning the third Serb detained a day earlier in the municipality of Zubin Potok as part of an investigation into war crimes.

Meanwhile, a hearing is being held to determine whether he should be remanded in custody, as he is suspected of committing the criminal offense of “War crimes against the civilian population.”

The suspect’s arrest followed an intensive investigation conducted by the Special Prosecution Office.

Excavations have begun in the village of Kalludër e Vogël in Zubin Potok amid suspicions that the bodies of 23 people known as the “group of intellectuals” from the Mitrovica region are buried there. They were abducted on April 19, 1999.

Even after 27 years, the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and their fate have not been fully clarified.

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers has issued its Third Scheduling Order in the trial of Hashim Thaçi and others, who are accused of criminal offenses against the administration of justice. The order cancels the hearings scheduled for August.

The decision follows a notice filed by Smakaj’s defense on July 30, 2026, pursuant to Rule 131, stating that it would not present evidence at this stage of the proceedings.

The single judge hearing the case removed the hearings scheduled for August 17, 18 and 19, 2026, from the calendar. The deadlines previously set in the Second Scheduling Order were also canceled.

Meanwhile, the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) was given until 12:00 p.m. on August 4, 2026, to file a motion if it intends to present rebuttal evidence.

If the SPO does not file such a motion, the evidentiary proceedings will be closed and the case will move to the final stage.

The order also sets the following procedural deadlines:

August 24, 2026, by 4:00 p.m. – submission of final trial briefs, should the parties choose to file them;

September 4, 2026 – submission of responses, if any;

September 10, 11 and 14, 2026 – hearings for the presentation of closing arguments.

The trial hearing against 21 people accused of war crimes has concluded at the Basic Court in Pristina.

With the conclusion of the judicial review, the parties involved in the proceedings have been given a 30-day deadline to file an appeal with the court.

The charges concern criminal offenses allegedly committed during the war in Kosovo, while the case will continue to be handled in accordance with the procedures established by law.

The Reçak massacre is considered one of the events that had a powerful impact on political and diplomatic developments in 1999. It became one of the factors that led to international intervention against Serbian forces in Kosovo.

At the Basic Court of Prishtina, a preliminary hearing will be held today for the criminal case where 21 defendants face charges for crimes committed during the war against the civilian population.

The Special Department of this court has confirmed that the names appearing in the dock are: Zllatomir Peshiq, Mlladen Cirkoviq, Radomir Markoviq, Dushko Adamoviq, Obrad Stevanoviq, Zhivko Trajkoviq, Goran Radosavleviq, Bogolub Janiçqviq, Sllavisha Ivanoviq, Boshko Vukiqeviq, Sreten Popoviq, Nikolla Petroviq, Kërsman Jellliq, Lubisha Stojimiroviq, Bozhidar Deliq, Radojko Stefanoviq, Dragan Zhivanoviq, Milosh Gjoshan, Lubinko Cvetiq, Bozhidar Filiq and Milovan Kovaçeviq.

The charge brought against them is for the criminal offense “War crimes against the civilian population”.

According to the court’s official announcement, the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has requested that the proceedings be conducted in the absence of the defendants, since they have not been reachable up to the stage of filing the indictment.

Through a public statement, the Court has called on the accused to surrender voluntarily to the prosecuting authorities of the Republic of Kosovo.

Abnora Luta, spokesperson for the Special Prosecution of Kosovo, has announced that the institution will submit a request to the court today for the detention of two persons arrested in Zubin Potok.

They are accused of committing the criminal offense of “War crimes against the civilian population.”

The detained individuals have been identified with the initials M.J. and M.B. They are being investigated in connection with the discovery of a mass grave in the territory of Zubin Potok, where human remains were found believed to belong to 23 Mitrovica intellectuals. The latter are suspected of having been killed by Serbian troops during the 1999 conflict.

According to the Special Prosecution’s announcement, with the authorization of the Basic Court in Pristina and at the request of the responsible prosecutor, law enforcement authorities have completed the phases of exhumation, forensic examination, and identification of the mortal remains at the site where the common grave was found in the Municipality of Zubin Potok.

This Wednesday, the next hearing against former president Ilir Meta and his former wife, Monika Kryemadhi, took place at GJKKO. In the previous session, Kryemadhi requested the invalidation of investigative acts, as well as the seizure of her mobile phone.

According to the defense, for this investigative action, authorization should have been obtained beforehand from the Assembly, as at the time of the seizure she was serving as a member of parliament.

During today’s session, SPAK is expected to present its stance regarding these claims.

Ilir Meta has also contested the validity of a series of investigative acts. His defense has questioned the use as evidence of communications extracted from the phone of businessman Kastriot Ismailaj, including the message with the content: “tomorrow I definitely need 200 thousand”.

According to Meta, it has not been proven at any moment that he was the sender of this message, therefore the communication cannot be considered evidence.

Meanwhile, during today’s session, Meta submitted another written request to the court to stay outside the glass cage during the judicial proceedings, but GJKKO rejected the former president’s request.

Kryemadhi jokes with journalists

As Monika Kryemadhi entered GJKKO, she did not spare the jokes with journalists about her outfit.

“We are all in salmon today, ‘light salmon’,” Kryemadhi said, referring to the shirt.

Asked what was the reason behind this choice, she replied: “It has omega 3, for longevity.”

The Basic Court in Pristina will announce its ruling tomorrow for Sami Lushtaku and the seven other people accused in the case known as “Drenica 1”.

The hearing at which the decision will be made public is scheduled to begin at 13:00.

As part of these court proceedings, Lushtaku and the other defendants have faced the charges brought against them.

The outcome of the case will be determined by the ruling issued by the court.

The Basic Court in Pristina will hold a hearing tomorrow in the trial of Jovan and Dragisha Viqentijeviq, who are accused of involvement in the November 2023 terrorist attack on the Iber-Lepenc canal.

As at the initial hearing, both defendants pleaded not guilty to the criminal offenses with which they are charged.

The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo claims that evidence obtained during the investigation proves the defendants’ involvement in the criminal offenses for which they are standing trial.

According to the Prosecution, the investigation also identified the role of the Serbian government in preparing the attack.

Meanwhile, Ernest Kerqeli, director of the Water and Generation Department at the company, testified today. He said that police teams, KFOR personnel and company employees arrived at the scene after the explosion, while work to repair the damage began only after investigators granted permission.

During questioning, presiding judge Vesel Ismaili asked Kerqeli whether investigative teams had also been present in the area where the explosion occurred.

Kerqeli replied that police forces, KFOR personnel and company workers had arrived there before him. He explained that repairs did not begin without the investigators’ approval, as they were collecting samples, while other experts had also arrived at the scene.

Asked by the judge whether he had noticed any traces of the explosion or of people present in the area, the witness said he had not observed anything of the kind.

Kerqeli also spoke about the damage that could have been caused if immediate repair measures had not been taken, stressing that the consequences for Kosovo’s citizens and infrastructure would have been extremely severe.

According to him, Kosovo’s citizens would have been left without electricity and telephone lines, while residents of Pristina and other areas supplied by Termokos would have been unable to heat their homes. He added that QKUK would have been left without electricity, heating and water, while the immediate shutdown of the B Power Plant would have had serious consequences for infrastructure. Kerqeli said losses would have reached millions each day and that, with every day of delay, the damage would have increased by millions upon millions.

The Basic Court in Pristina, through its Serious Crimes Department, has confirmed that the initial hearing in the criminal case involving the clash between the rival groups will be held today. The hearing will be presided over by Judge Fatime Dermaku, chair of the trial panel, and is scheduled for 09:00.

The defendants in this case, Endrit Llapashtica and Dardan Marevci, will be tried in absentia. The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina justified the request on the grounds that neither individual had been available to the justice authorities by the time the indictment was filed. The indictment is dated February 12, 2026, and bears the reference number PP.I.nr.178/2024.

According to the indictment, Endrit Llapashtica is accused of jointly committing the criminal offense of “Aggravated Murder.” Both he and Dardan Marevci are also individually charged with unlawful possession of weapons, specifically the offense of “Unauthorized Ownership, Control or Possession of Weapons.”

In its public notice, the court called on the defendants to surrender to the authorities of the Republic of Kosovo. All citizens with information about their whereabouts are also urged to provide it to the Kosovo Police or other competent institutions. The hearing summonses and the full indictment have been made available on the court’s official website and in the Official Gazette.

The case is linked to a violent armed clash between the “Capat” and “Sekiraqët” groups, motivated by revenge, in which P.G. was killed. A previous court hearing related to the conflict was unsuccessful in April because the psychiatric evaluation of defendant Valdrin Ademi had not yet been completed.

The session will take place at the Palace of Justice in Hajvali, building D, courtroom 27, and will be presided over by the presiding judge, Fatime Dermaku.

Endrit Llapashtica faces the charge of the criminal offense “Aggravated Murder” in complicity, while together with Dardan Marevci they are also accused of “Unauthorized Ownership, Control, or Possession of Weapons.”

The Basic Prosecution in Prishtina has proposed that the judicial proceedings be conducted in the absence of both defendants, as they have not been reachable by the justice authorities until the moment the indictment was filed.

Through a public notice, the court calls on Endrit Llapashtica and Dardan Marevci to appear voluntarily and surrender to the authorities of the Republic of Kosovo. At the same time, any citizen who possesses information about their whereabouts is encouraged to notify the Kosovo Police or the relevant institutions.

This judicial process has its roots in the tragic event that occurred in September 2024, in the Aktash neighborhood of Prishtina, where Premtim Gashi was killed during an armed confrontation.
