The Ministry of Health said in a written statement that no new cases have been confirmed so far and that the epidemiological situation is being monitored continuously. Once the tests are completed, it will be determined whether the three suspected cases will be included in the total number of infections.

Since the virus is spread through mosquito bites, health authorities are urging citizens to continue following protective measures. Recommendations include using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing in the evening and removing standing water near homes.

The ministry stressed that it is coordinating its actions with all relevant institutions, while the public will be informed without delay of any new developments.

The Ministry of Health announced that 73 patients who sought medical care were examined yesterday at public healthcare institutions in Gostivar.

A total of 45 new examinations were recorded at the “Dr. Ferid Murad” General Hospital in Gostivar. Of these, 26 were carried out in the infectious diseases ward, where there were also two new admissions, while 18 patients were examined in the pediatrics ward.

Two patients are currently hospitalized in the infectious diseases and pediatrics wards.

According to the Ministry of Health’s statement, the on-call service at the Gostivar Health Center recorded 28 new examinations.

Health Minister Sasho Klekovski declined to say when the water in Gostivar would be safe to drink again. He made the statement today in Shtip in response to a journalist’s question.

Earlier, Mickoski explained from Delchevo that the water in Gostivar remains unsafe to drink and is permitted only for technical use because bacteria had remained in the pipes.

Klekovski said the aim was to ensure the highest possible level of safety, which is why the results are being continuously monitored and samples are taken daily at several points on users’ premises. According to him, the water supply will be cleared for use once a larger number of samples are found to be safe, while tests must produce satisfactory results at three user sampling points.

“A single unsatisfactory test is enough for the process to require another three days. For that reason, it would be inappropriate for me to speculate about the number of days,” Klekovski said.

Following hyperchlorination, it was established that fecal bacteria had been completely eliminated from the network. However, as Mickoski had previously explained, due to the long period of disuse and the intensive cleaning of the pipes, a new residual bacterium has now appeared in them.

The concept for constructing a new hospital building in Kičevo was discussed during a visit to the city hospital by Deputy Health Minister Jovica Andovski, Kičevo Mayor Aleksandar Jovanovski, Kičevo General Hospital Director Maja Cvetanovska Trajkovska, and a World Bank delegation.

The estimated value of the project is approximately 1.38 billion denars, or €22.5 million.

Andovski said Kičevo has faced inadequate hospital conditions for several decades and that the time has come to resolve the issue in a functional and long-term manner. According to him, the goal is to provide residents with safe healthcare in their own city while creating modern working conditions for medical staff.

The planned complex will include modern facilities for diagnostics, inpatient treatment and emergency procedures, along with medical gas systems and energy-efficient solutions.

The hospital’s services will be available to residents of the Municipality of Kičevo and the surrounding areas. This is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to Skopje, Ohrid or Bitola for treatment.

The Ministry of Health believes that construction of the new facility will put an end to years of uncertainty and provide a sustainable healthcare solution for Kičevo and the region.

Sasho Klekovski, Minister of Health, published sick leave data for the first time, dividing cases into short-term leave of up to 30 days and long-term leave lasting more than 30 days.

The data show that more than 300,000 sick leaves were recorded in 2025. Respiratory infections and gastrointestinal complaints remain the main causes.

Klekovski recalled that in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of sick leaves was particularly high. However, he said that a 30 percent increase was recorded in 2025, bringing the number of registered cases to more than 300,000.

According to the minister, the increase is not linked to a rise in the number of people taking sick leave, but to the average number of sick leaves used by each patient. This figure has risen from 1.8 to 2.3 sick leaves per patient.

He explained that respiratory infections and gastrointestinal problems remain the most common diagnoses for which sick leave is granted. In the past year alone, more than 10,000 such cases were recorded due to gastroenteritis.

In the category of long-term sick leave, which lasts more than 30 days, the figures have remained unchanged at around 25,000 cases per year.

Klekovski stressed that no increase in the number of long-term sick leaves has been recorded in recent years. On the other hand, the amount of funds paid out for them has increased significantly. The total amount of payments has multiplied, which, according to the authorities, makes a broader debate on the issue necessary.

Following a 33 percent increase in the number of sick leaves over the past five years, the authorities have announced stricter controls.

The Ministry of Health announced that the epidemiological situation in the Gostivar region is being continuously monitored.

According to the latest data from public health institutions, the first decline in the number of new patients with symptoms of gastroenterocolitis seeking medical assistance for the first time has been observed since yesterday.

So far, Gostivar General Hospital has recorded a total of 1,554 patients, while 1.392 cases have been registered at the Gostivar Health Center. The four people who were being treated in hospital have been discharged and are continuing their treatment at home.

The authorities have so far received 140 formal reports, which are being reviewed by the epidemiological teams of the Tetovo Public Health Center and the Institute of Public Health. In addition, 81 epidemiological surveys have been conducted.

Daily figures show that yesterday, on 19.07, a total of 564 patients visited the hospital and health center for an initial examination. This figure is lower than a day earlier, when 649 newly examined patients were recorded, which was also the highest number registered in a single day.
